Broc led me to a large room that looked like it was usually used as a lecture hall. I sat in the front row.
“This is Professor Samuel. She will be issuing the test and I will be right outside waiting for you.”
“ OK Thanks.”
Moments later, I began the test. I felt really good about the test. It felt really easy. As I finished and handed it to the Professor I began to worry I had messed up.
I stepped out of the room to find Broc leaning against the wall as a group of girls pawed at him. I couldn’t help but smirk. He looked incredibly uncomfortable.
As soon as he saw me, he came running.
“Wow you finished fast.”
“I felt like it was too easy…does that mean I really messed up?”
“I am sure it’s fine.”
I knew I wasn’t hiding the disappointment in my face.
“Hey, don’t worry about it. Let’s grab some lunch. My treat and know a great place that has really good burgers and shakes.”
“Fine, but I don’t know if I will have much of an appetite.”
We made our way off campus to a small cafe. I ordered a burger and a chocolate shake. I didn’t realize how hungry I was till the food was in front of me and Broc was right. This place had amazing shakes and burgers.
I couldn’t hold back a moan. “This is really good.”
“Uh um yeah.” I looked up to see him staring at me.
“Do I have something on my face?”
“Oh no you look good.”
“Oh ok.”
We finished eating and made our way back to campus. About 15 minutes later, Professor Samuel came walking in our direction.
“Lillian, you are quite an exceptional girl. Your test scores are amazing.”
“See I told you that you had nothing to worry about,” Broc said, placing his hand on the small of my back.
“Thank you.”
“To graduate high school all you need is a government class and English. These will also count towards college credits.”
“Great.”
“Broc here will help you get set up, but let me know if you need anything.”
The rest of the day, Broc got me set up for my classes and walked me around, showing me how to get to my classes. He also walked with me to the college store to grab my books.
“You don’t have to go with me. I can handle it from here.”
“I don’t mind. I like spending time with you.” He said, smiling down at me.
I felt my cheeks turn pink. I wasn’t used to talking to guys. To be honest, the only guy I still wanted was Chase.
Despite everything, I missed him but I needed to do this for myself. I also don’t think I am ready to deal with him kissing another woman.
“I think I have everything. Thanks for today, Bro.”
“I can walk you home if you want.”
“Oh, I don’t want to be a pain.”
“Honestly, I would feel better if I could walk you home.”
“Ok.”
We made small talk on the way back to my apartment and, before I knew it, we had arrived.
“You know I am not far from here. I could walk you to class in the morning.”
“Umm. Sure, I mean if you want.”
“I want.” He leaned forward and kissed my cheek and waited for me to enter the building.
As soon as I entered the apartment, I could smell lasagna and I dropped my bag on the floor and made my way to the kitchen.
“Hey Nana.”
“Hey Sweet pea. Who was that man that walked you home?”
“Broc, he is a student here and he was the person that gave me a tour.”
“He looks a bit older than you.”
I kissed her cheek and grabbed a cucumber from the cutting board.
“He is 21 but his facial hair makes him look older, but don’t worry Nana, he thinks I am a kid.”
“He didn’t look at you like he thought you were a kid.”
“Trust me, he doesn’t want me. And despite everything, Chase still has my heart and I don’t know what to do about it.”
“I know, honey, but you will know what to do when he comes home.”
“Maybe.”
Chase’s POV
The flight seemed to take a year. As soon as we touched down, I grabbed our luggage and Gram and I made our way to find my parents.
It didn’t take long for us to find them. We piled into the car and headed back toward the pack house.
“Can you take me to the packhouse?”
“Son, I think you should come home first.” My Father said, looking at me in the mirror.
“I know it’s late. I just need to see her.”
“She isn’t at the packhouse.”
“Where is she?”
“We don’t know…Alpha said he is keeping it a secret for her safety, but I do know she is finishing her senior year at a college with humans.” My mom added.
“What? How? What?” I was in shock. I didn’t know how to comprehend what they just told me.
She was supposed to find herself and not leave. I mean I was happy for her, but how was I going to find her?
“Chase, I know you miss her but you need to get some rest and we can talk to the Alpha in the morning.” My Dad said, pulling into our driveway.
I knew he was right, but it didn’t make it any easier. I craved her. I needed her and I wouldn’t stop until I had her in my arms again.
