Chapter 4

BRIE'S POV The heavy oak doors of Albert’s office clicked shut behind us, leaving the lingering scent of rich mahogany and his subtle, intoxicating cologne behind. I took a deep breath, trying to steady my racing heart. Did I really just call the CEO handsome to his face on my very first day? "Don't worry," Jonathan said, breaking the silence with a warm, reassuring smile as we walked down the sleek, marble-floored corridor. "Mr. Jones can be intimidating, but you handled him remarkably well. I've seen executives tremble in that room, yet you made him laugh." "I think my mouth just moved faster than my brain," I admitted, feeling a flush of heat rise to my cheeks. Jonathan chuckled softly, the sound light and comforting compared to Albert’s deep, reverberating tone. "Honesty is a rare commodity around here, Ms. Janeson. I suspect he found it refreshing." He stopped outside a spacious, glass-walled office situated right next to Albert’s suite. The desk was minimalist yet luxurious, equipped with state-of-the-art monitors, a polished organizer, and a small vase holding fresh white lilies. "This is your desk," Jonathan explained, gesturing into the room. "Your primary duty is managing Mr. Jones’s schedule, screening his calls, and ensuring he has everything he needs before major meetings. I've already pre-loaded the internal system with his daily itinerary." "It's beautiful," I murmured, stepping inside and gently running my fingers over the smooth surface of the desk. "Thank you,Mr Jonathan." "Just call me Jonathan—no 'Mr.' necessary," he replied with a kind nod. "I'll let you get settled. But a word of advice: Mr. Jones takes his coffee strictly black, no sugar, precisely at ten o'clock." "Got it. Black coffee at ten," I repeated, committing it to memory. After Jonathan left, I sat in the plush leather chair and took a moment to organize my space. The view from the floor-to-ceiling windows showed the bustling city below, a stark reminder of how vast Jones Corporation really was. I was just one person in this massive empire, yet somehow, I was sitting right outside the door of the man who ran it all. At precisely 9:55 AM, I stood up, smoothed down my skirt, and made my way to the executive breakroom to prepare Albert's coffee. Carefully balancing the warm mug, I returned to his office door and knocked lightly. "Come in," his voice deep and commanding from the other side. I pushed the door open softly. Albert was standing near the window, a tablet in hand, his jacket off to reveal the crisp lines of his tailored white shirt. As he turned toward me, his intense grey gaze met mine, making my breath catch for a brief second. "Your coffee, Mr. Jones," I said smoothly, stepping forward to place it carefully on his desk. He looked from the mug to me, an intriguing spark glinting in his eyes. "Punctual. And you remembered how I like it without asking." "Jonathan gave me a quick briefing," I smiled modestly. "Is there anything else you need right now, sir?" Albert took a slow sip of the coffee, keeping his eyes fixed on me over the rim of the cup. "As a matter of fact, yes. My usual assistant for evening events is out sick today. I have an important dinner with key investors tonight, and I need someone attentive at my side." He set the cup down and stepped closer, the sheer presence of him filling the space between us. "Consider this your first major task, Ms. Janeson. You'll be coming with me tonight."
