Claire stormed out of the hotel room, her heels clicking on the marble floor as she left Hendrix standing alone, his eyes filled with a mixture of shock and regret. She didn't bother to look back as she slammed the door behind her, her anger and pain fueling her quick pace as she made her way to the parking lot. She drove through the city streets, her mind racing with thoughts of Hendrix and Helena, her heart feeling heavy with betrayal. She finally pulled up to Jenny's cozy little house, the porch light shining like a beacon in the darkness. Claire jumped out of the car and ran up the path, not bothering to knock as she burst through the front door. "Jenny!" she called out, her voice trembling with emotion. Jenny appeared in the living room, a look of concern on her face. "Claire, what's wrong?" And with that, Claire collapsed onto the couch, her tears finally flowing as she poured out the whole story to her best friend. "It's Hendrix and Helena! They have a history together, and she's trying to sabotage our arrangement!" Jenny's eyes widened. "Whoa, that's heavy. What did Hendrix say about it?" Claire's voice dripped with venom. "He claims it was just a brief fling, but I don't believe him. And to make matters worse, he didn't even tell me about it until Helena brought it up!" Jenny nodded sympathetically. "I can see why you're upset. But Claire, you need to calm down and think this through. You're about to marry this man, for better or for worse. You need to know what you're getting yourself into." Claire's eyes narrowed. "You're right, Jenny. I need to get to the bottom of this. And I need to ask Hendrix some tough questions." Jenny nodded. "That's a great idea. But Claire, you need to approach this calmly and rationally. Don't let your emotions get the best of you." Claire took a deep breath. "You're right Jenny, I'll talk to him about it,. Moreover, my dad didn't give me a choice." ******** Back at Rupert's family mansion Hendrix's father, Rupert, sat behind his massive desk in his study, his eyes fixed on his son. "Hendrix, how far have you gotten with the wedding plans? We only have a few days left." Hendrix's expression was sullen. "Father, I've told you before. I don't want to marry Claire just to secure a business deal." Rupert’s face turned red with anger. "You ungrateful boy! I'm doing this for our family's legacy. For our business empire." Hendrix stood up, his eyes blazing. "Our family's legacy? You mean your legacy, Father. You're using me and Claire as pawns in your game of power and greed." Rupert sneered. "You're just like your mother, always so naive and idealistic. This is the real world, Hendrix. Business is not a game of emotions, it's a game of power and strategy." Just then, the door opened and Rupert's secretary, Mrs. Johnson, walked in. "Sir, you have a meeting with the investors in 15 minutes. Shall I brief you on the details?" Rupert's expression changed from anger to calculation. "Ah, yes. The investors. I mustn't be late for that." Hendrix's eyes narrowed. "Father, don't think this conversation is over. I won't let you use me like this." Rupert waved his hand dismissively. "We'll discuss this later, Hendrix. Right now, I have more important things to attend to." And with that, Rupert stood up and followed Mrs. Johnson out of the room, leaving Hendrix alone with his thoughts. ******* As the day of the wedding grew closer, Claire was increasingly getting worried. She couldn't help wondering what would become of her life after the wedding. She sat on her bed thinking about all these with tears streaming freely from her eyes. Claire's mother, Sarah, entered her room, concern etched on her face. "Claire, sweetie, you need to eat something. You've been missing meals and you've lost so much weight." Claire wiped her tears, trying to compose herself. "I'm not hungry, Mum. I just can't seem to shake off this feeling of hopelessness." Sarah sat beside her, gently stroking her hair. "I know how you feel, Claire. I was once in your shoes. Your grandfather was in debt, and I was forced to marry your father to pay it off." Claire's eyes widened in surprise. "Really, Mum? I had no idea." Sarah nodded. "Yes, dear. I was heartbroken, just like you. But I want you to know that I eventually found happiness and love in my marriage. And I think you can too." Claire looked skeptical. "But how, Mum? I don't love Hendrix. I don't even know him." Sarah smiled. "That's the thing, Claire. Love can grow in unexpected ways. And sometimes, it's the unexpected things that bring us the most joy. Just keep an open heart and mind, and you never know what might happen." Just then, the doorbell rang. Sarah got up to answer it, revealing a surprise visitor - Hendrix himself! She left him in the sitting room and went up to call Claire. Hendrix looked at Claire with a gentle smile. "I know we didn't exactly get off on the right foot, Claire. But I want you to know that I'm willing to work with you to make this marriage work. And who knows, maybe we'll find our own unexpected happiness together." Claire's eyes locked onto his, a glimmer of hope sparking within her. Maybe, just maybe, this marriage wouldn't be so bad after all... “We need to talk,” Claire said as she led him to the garden. Hendrix and Claire sat in the garden, surrounded by blooming flowers and the soft chirping of birds. They had managed to slip away from the watchful eyes of their parents and were finally alone. Claire took a deep breath and asked what had been burning in her mind. "Hendrix, can I ask you something?" "Of course, Claire. What is it?" "It's about Helena. What exactly was your relationship with her?" Hendrix's expression turned serious, and he nodded. "I know you've been wondering about that. Helena and I... we were together a few years ago. But it was a complicated situation. We were young and foolish, and we made mistakes." Claire's eyes narrowed. "What kind of mistake?" Hendrix sighed. "We were reckless and selfish. We hurt people, including each other. And in the end, it was clear that we weren't meant to be together. We went our separate ways, and I thought that was the end of it." Claire's voice was soft. "But she's still in love with you, isn't she?" Hendrix's eyes locked onto hers, filled with sincerity. "Claire, I swear to you, I have no feelings for Helena whatsoever. She's a part of my past, and I'm trying to move on. And I want to move on with you." Claire's expression softened, and she nodded. "I believe you, Hendrix. And I appreciate your honesty." Hendrix's face lit up with relief. "Thank you, Claire. That means a lot to me. I promise to always be truthful with you, no matter what." As they sat there, surrounded by the beauty of nature, Claire felt a weight lift off her shoulders. Maybe, just maybe, this marriage wouldn't be so bad after all. Maybe she could even find happiness with Hendrix…
