As Angelica slowly regained consciousness, she found herself in a hospital bed. Her parched lips quivered from unquenchable thirst. "Leo," she whimpered, her fingers clutching onto her dress. Tears cascaded down her cheeks. "Hello, Miss. How are you feeling now?" the doctor approached her with utmost gentleness. "Where...where is Le...Leo?" Her voice quivered amidst tears. "I must see him. Is he...is he okay?" The doctor's gaze softened as he delivered the heart-wrenching news. "We did everything we could, Madame, but unfortunately, we couldn't save him. He passed away during the operation." Angelica's world crumbled as the doctor's words reverberated through her being. With a trembling hand, she removed the Intravenous drip, pleading with the nurses to let her see Leo one last time. Moved by her anguish, the nurses stepped aside, granting her passage to Leo's side. The room fell silent as Angelica approached, her steps heavy with grief. Time seemed to stand still as she hugged his lifeless body. The doctor administered a sedative and guided her into a peaceful slumber. "Doctor Denise, the officers are here to speak with the victims," a nurse softly informed him. "Please have them wait in my cabin, Andy," the doctor replied, as he lifted unconscious Angelica in his arms and took her to the next room. "Clara, stay here with the patient and look after her until I return," he directed one of the senior nurses, putting Anelica to bed. As he made his way towards his office to meet the officers, his heart pounded against his chest. Upon entering, he greeted them with a firm handshake. "Hello, Officers. My name is Denise Blanc. I'm the one who called you," he introduced himself. "Hello, Doctor. How is the girl and boy doing?" inquired the officer. "Officer, we did everything we could to save the boy, but it was not enough," Denise's voice quivered. "We discovered seven bullets from his body, with one piercing his liver, inflicting irreparable damage." The officer's eyes brimmed with concern as they inquired about Angelica. "Can we speak with the young lady?" "I'm truly sorry, sir, but she is in no state to be questioned at this moment," Denise responded. "She is in shock, her world shattered as she witnessed the tragic loss of her beloved fiancé. They were supposed to tie the knot tomorrow, but their dreams of a shared future shattered in an instant." Understanding the magnitude of the pain, the officer nodded solemnly. "Have their families been notified?" he asked. Denise nodded. "Yes, sir, we have reached out to their families and have summoned them here.” As they were having a conversation, Denise's phone rang, the receptionist informing him of the arrival of the victim's grieving parents. With heavy hearts, he and the officers made their way to meet them. "Doctor, please tell me my son is alright," Noella, Leo's mother, whispered, her voice trembling with a glimmer of hope. "We tried our best, but we couldn't save him," Denise retorted, sadly. "And Angelica, what about her? She was with Leo. Is she alright?" a young woman anxiously questioned. "May I ask who you are, Miss? And how do you know Angelica and Leo?" the officer asked, her. "Sir," she sobbed. "I'm Violette Petite, Angelica's childhood friend and colleague." "What about Angelica's family? Where are they?” the officer interrogated. "Officer, I'm Charles Cartier, Leo's father. Angelica is an orphan, her parents passed away in a car crash when she was merely seven years old. She lived in the orphanage that I ran. Leo and Angelica, got engaged three years ago, and tomorrow was their wedding. But alas....," Charles lamented. "How is my Angelica?" Noella anxiously inquired. "Physically, she is fine, but the trauma she witnessed of losing Leo before her very eyes has left her soul shattered," Denise replied. "When shall she regain consciousness, Doctor? We need her testimony, for she alone witnessed this heinous crime," the officer inquired. "Well, Officer," the doctor responded, “Once she gains consciousness, you may speak with her.” "Can we claim Leo's body?" Charles tremulously asked. "I'm afraid not, Mr Cartier. The body must undergo a thorough postmortem examination," the officer replied. ━━━━━━♡♤♡━━━━━━ The sun had eventually risen the next morning. Angelica's life, on the other hand, was in shambles. She looked out of the window while lying in bed. In those heartwrenching minutes, her life began to unfold before her eyes. Born into the opulence of Olivier Garcia's empire, tragedy struck when her parents were killed in an accident. She was sent to an orphanage as there was no one to care for her. Angelica used to feel lonely until destiny brought Leo into her life. He became her guiding light and source of hope. Their paths crossed at the fancy dress competition organised by the trustee of the orphanage, Mr Charles Cartier. Angelica recalls their first meeting vividly. While she was sitting all alone, Leo with curiosity, approached her, questioning why she did not attend the mirthful event. Angelica, her voice trembling with sorrow, told him about her parents' demise "Not only did God snatch my parents from me," she wept, "but he also stole my happiness." Leo offered his chocolate to her. With each passing day, their bond deepened, and they became best friends. As they grew up, Leo proposed Angelica on her sixteenth birthday. Angelica loved him too, and so, she accepted his proposal. They got engaged three years ago. Leo promised her he wouldn't ever leave her, but, perhaps, separation was written in their fates. Angelica's sorrow knew no bounds as she wept. "Hello, Angelica. I hope you're feeling a little better now," said Doctor Denise, as he entered the room accompanied by the officers. After examining her, the doctor spoke with compassion, "I understand that you're in a state of shock and despair. But could you please shed some light on what happened last night? Who killed your fiancé?” Angelica's chest tightened, and she could not help but let out uncontrollable sobs. “Ms Garcia, we assure you that we will punish Leo's killer grievously. However, we need your help in identifying the culprit," the officer spoke gently. "Did you see the person who shot him?" With a slight nod, she replied, tears welling up in her eyes, "It was Lucifer." The room fell into stunned silence as they listened to her revelation. "Do you mean Lorenzo Da Silva?" the officer inquired, and Angelica nodded once again. "He is a heartless devil. He ruthlessly took Leo's life. He deserves to be punished, even beheaded," she seethed with anger. "Ms Garcia, we will consider your statement and apprehend Lorenzo Da Silva. However, are you willing to testify against him in court, knowing how powerful he is," the officer asked. "I will. He has murdered the love of my life. He deserves to die. I will have him punished," Angelica declared vehemently.
