Avon's POV Day 5 as Jeremiah Forter's Wife I am sitting on the couch while watching Jeremiah. He is staring at the view outside. I can't tell if he is amused by what he is seeing because he remains expressionless. His thick eyebrows, pointed nose, thin lips, and his stubble that made him look mature and ruthless made me even more nervous to even utter any words. "Quit staring," he coldly utters without even turning his wheelchair in my direction. Maybe he felt my gaze so I immediately look away. "Sorry," I responded then bow my head and play with my fingers. When I learned that the video that Althea took on the bar reached Jeremiah I felt ashamed and every time he is around I felt like I am walking on a cliff. "Prepare my clothes," he commanded using his usual cold voice. I nod my head then stood up immediately and headed towards his walk-in closet. I started scanning his whole closet then after a while, I pick a black formal suit and blue tie. "Will this be good?" I asked raising the suit that I have chosen. Jeremiah turned his wheelchair around to face me. He stared at the clothes that I am holding then after a few seconds he responded. "Put that on my bed then call Gregory," he uttered and like a servant who is willing to take every order, I nod my head and leave his room to look for Gregory. It took me a few minutes to find Gregory since the Forter's mansion is too big. When I saw Gregory sitting on the bench in the Forter's garden I called his attention. "Jeremiah is looking for you," I uttered. Gregory looked at me then nod his head. "Good morning by the way," I greeted then gave him a small smile. Gregory smiled back and then remove the dust from his hands. "Good morning Avon," he responded then smiled back and walked towards me. Gregory witnessed how I kneeled that night so I can't look into his eyes directly. "Are you okay Avon?" he asked. I throw him a glance then nod my head and smiled to conceal what I truly felt inside. "Of course Gregory," I responded enthusiastically. "Try to have more patience with Jeremiah. He is still in the process of accepting his situation," he uttered and I have no choice but to nod my head. "I know," I simply answered, and when we reached Jeremiah's room I gave Gregory a small smile. "Call me when you are done, I will just have my breakfast," I uttered and when Gregory nod his head I turned around and then headed towards the kitchen. When I reached the kitchen I saw Elizabeth Forter drinking her tea and for a few seconds, I wanted to walk away. "Good morning Avon," she casually greeted so I nervously nod my head and smiled at her. "Good morning Mrs. Forter," I uttered trying my best not to stutter. "How's your relationship with my son?" she asked and I remain standing in front of her. "It's fine Mrs. Forter," I responded lying because our relationship is always on the edge of tearing apart. I heard Elizabeth Forter's chuckle which added to the fear that I am feeling. "You might think too highly of yourself to say those words Avon but always remember that my son is not someone that you can control. He ended up in that situation and won't give you any power at all Avon, remember that you are the one who begged us to help your family. Don't be a fool and know your place. Be thankful that you are Jeremiah's wife because without that title you are nothing but a daughter of a bankrupt businessman," I swallowed hard then bit my lower lip to suppress my tears. I don't want them to see how weak I am because dignity is the only thing that I have right now. I lifted my head and bravely meet Elizabeth Forter's eyes. "Yes Mrs. Forter," I responded then gave her a small smile. Elizabeth stared at me for a few seconds the left the kitchen and the moment she walked out I felt like a heavy burden was lifted from my chest and it allowed me to breathe normally again. "You can do this Avon," I uttered to myself. Things must be going smoothly if I didn't let my intrusive thoughts slip out of my mouth but the pain is unbearable that night. I wanted to release my anger and insult Jeremiah just like what he did to me to get even but it turns out that it made things, even worse and now I am suffering the consequences of my reckless action. I lost my appetite so I decided to drink some water rather than have some breakfast. I immediately wipe the tears that I am suppressing earlier then took a deep breath to relax. After a few minutes, I heard Gregory calling my name so I hurried and walked toward Jeremiah's room. "Why?" I asked when I saw Gregory standing at the entrance. "He wants you to put on his shoes," he uttered then tilted his head towards Jeremiah's direction to tell that he is about Jeremiah. "O-Okay," I uttered then headed towards Jeremiah. I reached for his shoes and then took a deep breath before kneeling in front of him again. I hope that after everything all my sacrifices will be worth it. Jeremiah's POV I lowered my eyes when Avon kneel in front of me. I watched her as she put on my shoes and I should feel satisfied watching her in this state but all I feel is guilt. "Done," she uttered trying to sound lively as possible even though I can tell that her ego was hurt when she kneeled in front of me. "Let's go," I coldly uttered. Avon nodded her head and then walked behind me. I pressed the button of my wheelchair while Avon and Gregory are attentively watching me. "Ready the car Avon," I commanded, and without any complaint, Avon followed my commands. When the car is in front Gregory helped me get in. "Thank you, Gregory," Avon uttered then rolled up the window on the driver seat and drive away. "Are you comfortable Jeremiah?" she asked but I ignored her and busied myself watching the view outside. "Did you eat your breakfast?" she asked once again and her questions are starting to annoy me. "Just shut up, will you?" I uttered with annoyance in my voice. Our gazes met when I looked in the rearview mirror and I saw how her expression changed, from an enthusiastic to an ashamed one. "Sorry," she uttered then focused on driving. The whole ride remain quiet and until we reached the company none of us dared to utter any words. Avon helped me to get off from the car and when we entered the company the gazes of my employees remained the same, pity. They are looking at me as if I am a hopeless case, and maybe I am but it's none of their business. "Focus on your work!" I shouted which made them flinch even Avon. After a while, I felt her gentle caresses. "Calm down," she whispered but my jaw remain clenched. Afraid that I might lose my temper again Avon pushed the wheelchair as fast as she could until we reached the elevator door. We immediately stepped inside when the elevator door opened. "I'm sorry, I'm just afraid that-" I cut off her words. "Afraid that I might lash out and make a scene?" I asked which made her quiet. "Next time don't meddle in my business Avon. You have no right to do that," I uttered. I saw her reflection on the elevator door. She started rubbing her wrist which made me wonder if that is her mannerism whenever she is in pain. "I'm sorry," she uttered in her small voice. When the elevator door opened I pressed the button on my wheelchair until I reached the door of my office. My parents had installed a detector so the door easily opened whenever it scan my whole face. When the door opened I pressed the button again and then headed toward my table. I stared at the pile of documents in then took a deep breath when I was reminded of how useless I have become. "Do you want me to flip the pages of the documents for you?" Avon uttered carefully at her words. I have no choice so I nod my head and allow Avon to walk toward my table. "Next," I uttered when I finished reading the first page. "That fast?" she asked with amusement in her voice. I looked at her with a creased forehead so she immediately flipped the page. "Next," I can see amusement in her eyes but this time she didn't give any comments. I thought Avon will remain quiet until she gave an unnecessary comment once again. "No wonder why Forter's Corporation is the leading company, you are a genius Jeremiah," she commented with a proud smile on her face which made my eyebrows furrow. "Why? Do you expect me to be dumb?" I asked sarcastically. Avon immediately shook her head. "No, it's not that. I already expect that you are a genius when it comes to handling business but I never thought that you would be like this," she uttered with amusement still written on her face. "Next," I uttered fighting the urge to feel pleased by her comments. It took a few hours to finish reviewing all the documents and while Avon is busy arranging the documents I heard her stomach growl. She immediately covered it and then shyly looked at me. "I'm sorry," she uttered. "Did you eat your breakfast?" returning the question that she asked me earlier. Avon slowly shook her head and then flashed a small smile. I took a deep breath and then dialed the number of the restaurant where I usually order my lunch. After a few minutes of waiting the food arrived so Avon arranged everything on the table. "Let's eat," she invited like a happy kid excited to taste the food served on the table. As I stare at her smile while holding the spoon and fork, I can't help but wonder what would happen in 547 days.
