Seraphina Vale POV
A few months ago, I was coming home from work late at night. My boss always told me never to work late at night and that it wasn't safe, but I always ignored his warnings and kept walking late.
One of the days I was going back home late, I stumbled upon piles of bodies in the street of Raventhorn; it seemed like a vicious animal or beast had just escaped after being locked in an asylum for years.
I followed the body trails, scared for my life, but my curiosity wouldn't let me go home straight.
I think this is where you would say it was curiosity that killed the cat.
Examining some of the bodies, I found out that they were all drained. It made me wonder what kind of animal could have done a thing like that.
I cracked my head for one, but I couldn't arrive at a particular one except for vampires.
I scoffed at my thought.
Vampires?
Real?
Nah, I didn't think so. There had to be some sort of explanation for this; I was sure medical practitioners would have something to say, or maybe zoologists would be able to tell us an animal that was capable of doing something like this, certainly not a vampire.
I continued following the body trail until I got to some of them that were still a little bit warm, whatever it was that did this was still around and was probably still killing more people.
I know, I know, my curiosity would probably kill me one day, but I couldn't help it; I kept on going until I got to the last body. Initially, I was counting, but I lost count.
I searched the surroundings, and then I saw one barely breathing, lying almost lifeless on the floor; immediately, I called an ambulance.
I tried to ask him questions if he probably saw what did that to him, but he couldn't even speak. I waited till the ambulance came and took him away.
The ambulance was already ahead, but my curiosity still didn't let me go back home. Instead, I stopped a cab asking him to follow the ambulance.
The ambulance got to the hospital and they rushed the victim to the intensive care unit. I paced around waiting for the doctors or nurse
Finally, they came out, "Are you a relative?" The doctor asked
"Oh no, I was the one who called the ambulance."
"His life is no longer in danger"
"Can I speak to him?"
"I am afraid not, but maybe when he wakes."
The doctor left.
I went into his room, sitting right next to him, praying that he wakes
After about an hour, he did wake up "Who are you? Why am I here."
"Relax," I said, placing my hands on my chest to demonstrate.
"Why am I here?" He asked his voice shaky.
"Don't you remember anything"
He shook his head.
The doctors examined him and concluded he was perfectly fine.
I finally retired and returned home.
From what I knew about vampires, from stories, if it was a vampire then he had probably been compelled to forget what he went through.
*****
Passing through this place and seeing the bodies on the floor reminded me of that night from a few months ago.
The good thing about this night was that the bodies were still warm, and I noticed that this time around, their blood wasn't completely drained even though the little one in them was not enough to keep them alive.
I followed the body trail again. This time, I was sure that I was going to see the animal that did this.
Getting closer, I began to hear signs of struggle; I took off one of my heels and held it in my hands.
My eyes widened in shock when I saw what was killing these bodies.
It had a human body, and judging from the way it held the human I knew what it was.
A species that I had thought never existed, a creature of the night that I had always thought to be a legend, was right in front of me.
A vampire.
I froze.
The creature turned to look at me and asked who I was, but I told him I didn't talk to strangers.
Just like that, in a blink of an eye, he was nowhere to be found.
Since that night, I never got myself; I had been thinking about the creature I saw, wondering what it was doing and if it was okay.
Most times I would slap myself just so I could remind myself that this person was a monster, a monster who feeds on humans.
But I couldn't help it; there were times I felt like I was being watched by him, but he never showed his face to me again until I was attacked by a pack of vampire assassins a few weeks later.
I was on my way back from work as usual; I had just dropped my bag and was about to start taking off my dress when I saw crimson-red eyes staring at me.
Pointing their weapons at me, I moved backwards. Seeing their fangs made it clear that they were vampires.
With my head bowed, I prayed to God or anyone else who might be listening.
I wondered if they were sent by him. The one who I saw that night.
Just when I thought my life was over, I felt the wind on my skin; I raised my head to see someone standing in front of me, facing the vampire assassins.
The battle began.
I ran, shoving myself under the bed.
I remained there until I heard his voice.
"You can come out now they are gone." He said I could tell that he felt proud of himself for saving a damsel in distress.
I moved closer and extended my hand to shake his.
"Seraphina Elyss Vale"
He looked at my hands for a while before accepting the handshake
"Lucian Vael D’Aragon " he said.
His crimson eyes glowing brighter at that instant, I remembered who he was.
It was him.
The vampire who left a trail of numerous bodies behind.
