UNTAMED EMOTIONS
...........
"The Scholarship Students"
The loud sound of a pot cover crashing against the kitchen floor pulled Ivy Valentina Wolfe out of sleep.
“IVY! If you don’t wake up now, you’ll miss that bus again!” a voice yelled from the kitchen.
“I’m awake!” Ivy shouted back with a groan.
She rolled off the thin mattress on the floor and stared at the cracked ceiling above her for a few seconds. Her body ached from yesterday’s shift at the restaurant. Her feet still hurt. But bills didn’t care about pain.
Neither did life.
The small apartment smelled like fried oil, detergent, and burnt toast. Tiny. Crowded. Hot. But it was home.
Ivy tied her braids into a rough ponytail before dragging herself into the kitchen.
Her older sister, Evelyn Wolfe, stood beside the stove in her nursing uniform, flipping bread in a pan while simultaneously packing her bag.
“You look homeless,” Evelyn muttered.
“I literally am one salary away from homelessness.”
Evelyn rolled her eyes. “Be serious.”
“I am serious.”
Despite the sarcasm in her voice, Ivy smiled faintly and stole a piece of bread from the pan.
“OW!” She hissed. “Hot!”
“That’s what thieves get.”
Ivy stuck her tongue out before grabbing her school file from the table.
Today was important.
Too important.
Jensview Institute.
The biggest and most expensive high school in the city.
A school for children with old money, luxury cars, private drivers, and parents who probably bought islands for birthdays.
And somehow…
She got in.
Not just her.
Selene. Mara. Iris too.
A full scholarship.
Honestly, Ivy still thought the school made a mistake.
“You’ll be fine,” Evelyn said softly, noticing her expression.
Ivy scoffed. “Those rich kids are going to eat me alive.”
“And you’ll probably insult them back.”
“That too.”
Evelyn laughed quietly before fixing Ivy’s collar. Her expression softened.
“I’m proud of you, Ivy.”
For a second, Ivy froze.
Because no matter how hard life became…
That sentence always healed something inside her.
—
“WHY ARE WE RUNNING?!” Selene screamed dramatically.
“Because some of us are poor and cannot afford missing buses!” Ivy yelled back.
The four girls sprinted across the busy road like criminals escaping prison.
Mara was laughing while holding her bag.
Iris looked completely unbothered.
Selene nearly died after five seconds.
“This school better have AC,” Selene complained. “If not, I’m dropping out.”
“You can’t drop out on the first day,” Mara said.
“Watch me.”
Ivy laughed quietly as they climbed into the bus.
People stared at their uniforms immediately.
Dark blue skirts.
Silver ties.
The famous Jensview crest stitched onto the blazer pocket.
For the first time in her life…
Ivy actually looked like someone important.
The thought scared her.
—
Jensview Institute was massive.
The gate alone looked richer than her entire neighborhood.
Luxury cars lined the entrance.
Students stepped out wearing designer watches, expensive perfumes, and confidence Ivy had never seen before.
Selene stopped walking.
“Oh my God…”
Mara looked ready to faint.
Iris only adjusted her backpack.
Ivy swallowed nervously.
This place screamed money.
Then a black car pulled up near the entrance.
The atmosphere changed instantly.
Students started whispering.
Some girls fixed their hair.
Others pulled out lip gloss.
The car door opened.
A tall boy stepped out wearing the Jensview uniform like it was designed for him alone.
Black hair.
Sharp jawline.
Cold expression.
Aiden Blackwood.
Even his name sounded expensive.
He walked past everyone without looking at them once.
Arrogant.
Annoyingly handsome.
And completely uninterested in the attention around him.
Three boys followed behind him.
Asher Bennett looked half asleep already.
Adrian Cole was flirting with a senior before class had even started.
And Arlo Vance held a sandwich while reading a science book at the same time.
“Is that food?” Mara whispered.
“He’s kinda cute,” Selene admitted.
“He looks kidnappable,” Ivy said.
The girls burst into laughter.
Unfortunately…
Aiden heard it.
He stopped walking.
Slowly, he turned toward them.
His eyes landed on Ivy first.
Then her worn-out shoes.
Then her old backpack.
The look in his eyes irritated her immediately.
Judgment.
Typical rich boy.
Aiden raised one eyebrow slightly.
“You’re blocking the entrance.”
Ivy blinked.
Then smiled sarcastically.
“Oh, sorry your highness. Should we roll out a red carpet too?”
Asher choked on air.
Adrian burst out laughing.
Arlo looked terrified.
The surrounding students gasped.
Because nobody—
Absolutely nobody—
Talked to Aiden Blackwood like that.
But Ivy Wolfe?
She didn’t care who he was.
