Her Awakening Pt.11

The sun had set, and the only light in the room was from the low fire burning in the hearth. He quietly walked into the room and found Oriana fast asleep in a chair, she was even more beautiful when she slept. He resisted the urge to stroke a hand down her cheek and brush the soft hairs off her forehead, instead he settled for grabbing a blanket off the loveseat and carefully draped it over her. A small smile appeared on her lips and she snuggled deeper into the chair. Reese quietly sat on the loveseat across from her, the need to watch and protect too strong to resist. Her warm tropical scent was already wafting through the room and it wrapped around his senses, all these years of thinking he would be mateless, or forced into an arranged mating, and her she was right in front of him. His wolf cried out for him to act, to claim her as his, but Reese knew he had to take things slow. She was knew to all of this, she had little knowledge of their ways and customs, it would take time for her to understand them. He also had no idea if her inner wolf was communicating with her in away or if she was aware of her wolf being awaken. So many questions circled through his mind, he needed answers and Philip was the only one with any. He needed to sit down with his Alpha before tomorrow, but he had night patrol duty and wouldn't be back to the house til morning, his only solution was to go to him now before dinner. There wouldn't be much time but maybe he could at least get some piece of mind before going out on duty, he really didn't need the extra distractions. With a small sigh he rose from his spot and quietly walked from the room, grabbing the tray of leftovers on his way out. He passed one of the small Omegas in the hall and handed the tray off to her, "Oriana is asleep so please try not to scare her when you go to get her for dinner." He said to the small female, who nodded and hastily turned to return to the kitchen. Reese made his way to the offices on the other side of the house. He nodded a greeting to the male guarding the door and proceeded to the end of the hall, where the Alpha's offices were. He knocked at the large door carved with an impressive male wolf, poised to strike at an opponent. "Enter." Came a stern voice from the other side. Reese pushed opened the door. "Reese, good I was about to call for you." Philip said as he looked at the maps spread over the large work table. " There are grumblings from our informants that the SunDog Clan has their shackles raised again. I'll need you to assign extra scouts for the night patrols." "Sir, I'll get right on that. But, first, umm..." He trailed off, not quite knowing how to ask what he needed to ask. Philip looked up at him and saw the look on his face, he gestured to the armchairs by the fireplace. "I know your mind is pulling you in a thousand direction right now, and your wolf is pulling you in one direction but we are on the edge of a possible war and I really need my Beta to be focused." Philips voice was soft but still stern, like a father talking to a son who has got himself into a spot of trouble. "To answer the questions I can read in your mind, Oriana will be tutored in our ways and customs, I also have it on good authority that she is exploring the connection with her wolf." Reese breathed a sigh of relief, "And of our being fated?" He asked. "We will discuss that at a later time, right now the main focus should be to make sure Oriana is safe, comfortable and feels like part of the clan. There are some that are not going to be welcoming to a new female, let alone one that is destined to be their Luna. It will be up to you to help ease her into our society and protect her." "Philip leaned back in his chair. "Are there any other concerns?" Reese thought on it and then shook his head, "No, sir. I mean there are still questions to be answered but it nothing that can't wait." "Good." Philip stood, signaling that it was time to wrap up the conversation. "I know this is all new for you too. You and her will be learning a lot together and that will help your bond to be even stronger." He put a reassuring hand on Reese's shoulder, "My door is always open." "Thank you, Sir." Reese gave a short bow and left to mind link with his team about strengthening security around the borders, they would need to have a briefing in the morning before the morning guards went back on duty. He ran his hands through his hair and stretched, he needed a shower and a meal before he went out tonight if he wanted to be alert to any threats. He headed towards the stairs leading to the third floor and his suite lost in his own thoughts when he heard a voice behind him drawl out, "Quite the little catch you brought home."
