ANOTHER BRICK WALL
At first sight the address the police possessed for Roger Burnside appeared to be a typical mid-twentieth century detached house on Andrews Lane but had in fact been modernised and converted into well-appointed flats, one of which was the rented home of the man they sought. Curtis had tried ringing Wanda’s ex-husband while Sinclair drove the few miles from headquarters to Formby. This time, Burnside answered his mobile, and apologised for not replying earlier, explaining he’d been working in a client’s cellar where there was no signal. Burnside was intrigued at receiving a call from the police but when Curtis refused to tell him the reason for their visit over the phone, he rightly assumed it must be a serious matter they wished to discuss with him.
