Ava's Pov
I breathed in hard as I slowly began to feel myself again. I attempted to open my eyes but it wouldn't budge, so, I followed Louve’s advice and attempted opening it unhurriedly.
As I successfully opened my eyes I wondered if I was in the spirit world because everywhere was bright and white until…
“You're finally awake! Thank the Goddess! I'll get the doctor,” Alpha Zeke exclaimed and dashed out of the hospital VIP room.
I dragged myself to sit up and felt a little bit better as my healing power started working sluggishly. Then, I wondered how I got here because the last thing I remembered was the torturous pain that engulfed my body.
‘What is he doing here?’ I asked Louve, hoping she would know.
‘Remember he was the voice we heard before we collapsed?’
‘Oh… But…’
“You're awake! Thank the Gods!” I looked at the door to see Alpha Darius walking closer to me. He sat on the chair next to the bed, held and caressed my hand, planting a kiss on the back on my hand before saying, “You have no idea how worried I was. Do you feel any pain? How are you? Should I get the doctor?”
As I opened my mouth to speak, the door flung open, revealing the man on white I assumed was a doctor and a scowling Alpha Zeke.
“What are you doing here?” He asked Alpha Darius.
“Isn't it obvious? I'm here for my mate.” Alpha Darius shot back but as Alpha Zeke opened his mouth to speak, I gave him an pleading look that kept him silent.
“Ava, how do you feel?” The Doctor whose name tag read Dr. Michael asked.
“A little bit better.”
“That's good news. I'll just run some vital checkups and then you'll be free to go.” With that, he did some checkups on me but I couldn't shake off the tense atmosphere that lingered.
Just as the doctor left after confirming I was good to be discharged, I went to the restroom and changed into a new cloth that Alpha Zeke got for me.
“Come on, I'll take you home,” Alpha Zeke said, stretching his hand for me to take it.
“Nah… Let me take you home instead. You need to be around someone you're comfortable with.” Alpha Darius stretched his hand also.
As I stared at their hands, I pondered on what to do. I was in such a dilemma that I wished to not be part of right now.
“Uhmm…”
“She's leaving with me,” Alpha Zeke said, pushing Alpha Darius’ hand.
“No she isn't.”
“Back off Darius, you're not stealing her like you always steal what's mine.”
“I never stole anything that belonged to you. On the contrary, they came to me willingly, cousin.” They went on having a back and forth like twelve year olds but what caught my attention was the last word Alpha Darius uttered. They are cousins? Who would have thought?
As I looked at them having their banter, I contemplated if I was merely a thing they wanted to acquire to spite each other and if this banter was indeed about me, and most importantly, I pondered on why the moon goddess would put me in such a pickle.
What did I do to deserve such a life? Why couldn't she just mate me with a random guy… or guys, people without status or drama? All I wanted was a peaceful and normal life like a normal teenager would have, not this living hell.
“Babe?” Alpha Darius’ voice called, bringing me back to reality as I furrowed my brow on his supposed pet name for me. “Who do you chose?”
“Uhn?” I had been lost in thought and didn't know they were talking to me until now.
“It’s time to pick, butterfly. Who will you be going with?” Alpha Zeke asked and I couldn't help the blush that crept on my cheek.
Wait, I have to pick?
My eyes widened on the realization of the hot seat I had been tossed into.
I looked at Alpha Zeke and remembered the pains he had put me through the past few days. He had rejected me and warned me to stay away from him, then he kissed me, confusing the hell out of me. Adding to that, he warned me to stay away from Alpha Darius, also, he had been nothing but cold to me… but then again, he came to my rescue in the dying minute. But…
Alpha Darius on the other hand, had been nothing but sweet to me. He is the definition of a perfect gentleman, treating me nicely and sweetly, like an egg. He had no iota of confusion laced around him and he was really sweet.
Who should I go with?
“Butterfly?”
I looked at Alpha Zeke and then at Alpha Darius. I didn't want to hurt the one person that had been nothing but kind to me, in contrast of the other. I would definitely regret it if I picked Alpha Zeke over Alpha Darius, especially as this so-called choosing seemed to be beyond just picking who I will be going home with.
“Babe?” Darius' voice called as he stretched his hand again, prompting Zeke to repeat his action.
“I'll be going with you,” I said, taking Alpha Zeke's hand, making him smile triumphantly.
“Let's go,” he said, holding my hand tightly and leading the way.
I turned around and mouthed a quiet ‘I'm sorry’ to Alpha Darius who maintained a stoic face.
As I got comfortable in Alpha Zeke's Mercedes-Benz, I informed Louve who was whining that it was only fair to choose Alpha Zeke, seeing as he was the one who took me to the hospital after Caroline made an attempt on my life.
“Thank you for choosing me,” he said as he ignited the car.
I nodded but simply looked outside, hoping I didn't make the wrong choice. I looked out the window, admiring the greenery as he drove off, lost in my thoughts.
“Butterfly?” He touched my thigh softly, gaining my attention. “What kinda music would you like me to play for you?”
I squinted my eyes at him, surprised. “Why do you ask? It's not like you really care,” I blurted out.
“Ofcourse I care. You're my mate.”
“Why? What changed? Why are you being… nice?” I scrutinized his expression that went from shock, to sadness and then settled on a poker face.
He moved the car to the side of the road and parked it. He turned to face me completely and said, “I am sorry about how I acted that night I found out you were my mate. It was totally stupid of me and I completely regret it.”
I was taken aback by his statement. I was not expecting the almighty Alpha Zeke to apologize to me.
“But why? Why did you treat me that badly? You didn't even know me.”
“I'm so sorry, butterfly. I did it because…”
He paused, sighed a long sigh and then continued, “It's a long story for another day but I want you to know that I have nothing against you and I apologize.” He looked at me, expecting me to say something.
“Hmmm… Uhmmmm…” I was short of words.
“I know we didn't start on a right foot but let me make it up to you. How about I take you out on a date tonight?”
“To… tonight?”
“Sure… I'll come pick you up and…”
Pick me up, no, no, no. I can't let Aunt Kathy see me with him, she might send me to live with her brother. Heck, I can't let him drop me in front of our house!
“No!” I exclaimed. “Just… send me the location and I'll meet you there by 17:00pm and… uhm… I'll stop here,” I added, starting to unbuckle the sitbelt.
“Here? Why?”
“I live close by… See you at 5!” I exclaimed, getting out of the car and running into a alleyway where I waited until he left before starting my journey home.
“Ava Adams! Where have you been?!” Aunt Kathy's voice thundered immediately I entered the house, causing me to jump in fear.
“I… I…”
“Where did you sleep last night?” I opened my mouth to speak but before I could say anything, she added, “You know what, forget it. I don't care. I'm expecting a visitor, you'll clean and mop the entire house and then go to the club when you're done.”
“What?! I… I mean… now?” s**t! I have to meet with Alpha Zeke in about 2 hours.
“Excuse you?”
“Yes, sure… I'm sorry…” I said and ran upstairs to start cleaning.
It was as if Aunt Kathy was head bent on making sure I wouldn't go out because no matter how many times I cleaned, it just wasn't good enough until it was time to resume my night job.
I cursed under my breath as I entered the night club. I had called Alpha Zeke severally to apologize but the call went to voicemail. I dropped him a message, apologizing and hoped he understood.
“Ava! What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be resting at home? You can't work today,” Frederick said.
“Well, you know how Aunt Kathy is. She said I should come to work.”
“No Ava! I already feel bad for what happened last time. I can't let you work,” he insisted.
“Please Frederick. I can't go home empty handed. Aunt Kathy will kill me. Please…”
“Ava… I don't think…”
“Please Frederick… pretty please…”
“Alright then. You'll take room 5.” I nodded and walked towards the dressing room to change, hoping not to encounter any hardships.
As I walked through the passage, someone suddenly held my hand and dragged me into a*****e room, locking it.
“What the… Who are you!” I gasped as I saw Alpha Darius towering over me.
“Alpha Darius… What are you doing here?” I was surprised to see him. I didn't know he knew about this my life.
“Why?”
“Uhn?”
“Why did you pick him?”
“I… I… He's just…” I couldn't think of a good enough reason. I couldn't think of any reason that wouldn't hurt him.
“I was good to you… I was going to give you the world but you pick that rascal. Why?”
I noticed he looked angry, furious even and I didn't want to get a taste of his anger, he was an Alpha after all.
“I… I just followed him home.”
“Liar! You picked him!” I whimpered on hearing his wolf speak with authority.
“I… I'm sorry…”
“I can't lose to him. I won't lose to him! You might have chosen him, but I'll have you before he does!”
He took calculating short steps towards me, making me wonder what he was trying to do. I hoped what I imagined was the opposite of what he intended to do but I was wrong.
Pushing me to an abandoned couch that lay in the room, he unbuckled the belt of his pants and I knew my fears were about to play out. I needed to think fast or risk the worst.
“Wait… please… Please don't do this.”
“It's too late for that.”
“Please… in the name of the gods.” My plea landed on deaf ears. He forcefully tore my pants, and started pulling down his pant with two of his hands to reveal his member.
Scanning the room for anything, I noticed an abandoned bottle of wine that stood beside the chair, I stretched my hands for it and successfully grabbed it. As he was about to enter my honeypot, I slammed the bottle on his head and he screamed, holding his head in pain as he landed on the floor.
I took that as my cue to run, knowing fully well that he could recover swiftly with his Alpha powers. So, I ran but as I ran out to the bar, I saw something that halted me on my tracks and completely shattered me:
Alpha Zeke kissing Caroline.
