Ava's Pov
My alarm beeped again and I used my hands to close my ears, growling in irritation until…
“Get rid of that thing, imp!” Aunt Kathy's voice thundered. I snapped up, switching it off as I laid back on the bed, attempting to catch a little more sleep. It was time for school and I had no desire to go, considering what had happened last night.
My eyes flung open as I remembered who was coming today. Aunt Kathy's brother usually visits every Wednesday and most of those days, he tries to have his way with me. So, I immediately ran to my small bathroom and took a quick shower, wore a worn out hoodie and joggers, then I ran to school.
On getting to school, memories of last night flooded my mind. I remembered how Alpha Zeke had warned me to stay away from him after kissing me, how his friends and Caroline had maltreated me and I knew I needed to stay clear of them all. I still didn't understand why he kissed me after rejecting me but I definitely knew staying away from him was best for my life
So, in a bid to stay hidden, I used my hood to cover my head while I tried to avoid eye contact.
Moon Goddess, please, save me this once… please.
“Awww…” I muttered, rubbing my forehead on hitting a wall or was it… someone?
“Are… are you okay?” Came the voice of the person I had hit.
“I… I am fine…” I stuttered, raising my head to meet an extremely handsome fellow whose set of blue eyes bore into my soul.
“Mate?” He asked and immediately Louve started dancing within me.
“Uhn?” My mouth fell open in daze. He was angelic but that wasn't even the issue, my confusion was how this could happen. How could I be mated to another man just within what… days of rejection? Besides, this only happens in tales, I've never really seen someone with two mates, neither did I ever imagine it would happen to me.
“Oh my goddess! Mate!” He exclaimed, gaining stares from other students as he lifted me up, making me gasp in shock and swung me around.
“Please… put me down,” I muttered until he successfully heard me and placed me back down.
“Oh, I'm so sorry about that. I'm so excited to have finally met you.” I couldn't help but smile. He was cute.
By the side of my eyes, I could see Alpha Zeke who with his eyes threw daggers at alongside Caroline that stood beside him.
Shit! So much for staying hidden.
“Alpha Darius, the principal has sent me to call you,” Miss Winter, the Principal's secretary noted. Wait, he is an Alpha?
“Uhm… I'll meet with you soon, okay?” I nodded in shock as he left.
Caroline started walking towards me, menacingly and fortunately, the bell rang, making the hallway scatter with students as everyone scurried to their classes. I heaved a sigh of relief, thanking the Moon Goddess.
“Alright students, let's all get into pairs as we discussed yesterday. Chop chop!”
My eyes widened as I recalled my partner was none other than Alpha Zeke. He had told me not to appear in his presence and I knew what was best for me was to obey him. I need to get out of here asap.
“Ava? Where to?” Mr. Dominic’s voice halted me on my tracks. I was attempting to leave the class.
“Uh…”
“We don't have time to waste, go to your partner, now.” My head fell to the ground once I made eye contact with Alpha Zeke. I knew I was done for.
“What was that all about?” He asked me as I sat on the chair next to him, seemingly angry.
“Uhn?” I pointed to myself, asking if he was talking to me.
“What were you doing with Darius?”
“He… He's my mate,” I muttered.
“Mate?!” He exclaimed, gaining everyone's attention.
Mr. Dominic who knew never to disrespect the Alpha pretended not to have seen the distraction made in his class but as he attempted to continue teaching, Alpha Zeke cut him off with;
“What the f**k do you mean by he's your mate?!” He was in rage and quite frankly, he looked scary. His eyes glowed golden and his aura commanded authority, one that even Louve cowered at.
As if on cue, all the students stood up and left the classroom alongside Mr. Dominic.
“He… he… we are mated and… and…”
“I. Don't. Want. To. See. You. Close. To. Him. Got it?” Each word seethed through his mouth like venom, making me wonder what really was his deal.
“Why?” I asked. I didn't know where the confidence came from, however, I couldn't help but ask. “Why should I stay away from him?”
“What?” The look in his eyes screamed that he was taken aback. He definitely didn't expect that.
“You said I should stay away from you and I'm sorry if our paths crossed but then again how am I supposed to even hide from you when we attend the same school… the same class? Now you say I should stay away from my second chance mate? Why should I do that? You rejected me, so what else do you want?”
“I see you've grown wings to have the guts to question me.” He walked towards me slowly, every step pushing me further away from him as I walked backwards until my back touched the wall.
“I… No, Alpha… I just don't…”
He crashed his lips on mine again. I stood frozen until he bit my lips, demanding entrance which I gave him as I gasped due to the pain from his biting.
He grabbed my butt cheeks and squeezed it as he bent his head to have more access to my lips which I gave him willingly, kissing him back. I was lost in the kiss that I craved for more when he broke the kiss.
“Stay away from him, understand?” I nodded my head and he walked away, leaving me wanting more. Meanwhile, I couldn't shake off the feeling that someone had seen us.
The rest of the school day went swiftly and smoothly.
During lunch break, Alpha Darius had reached out to me despite all my attempts to stay away from him and we had lunch together. He was overly sweet and really cute, however, I couldn't help but feel more attracted to Alpha Zeke as my eyes kept wandering back to him while he maintained a calm composure.
It was evening and I had already dressed into my stripper clothes when Frederick informed me that someone was looking for me. I wondered who it was as he wouldn't divulge the identity of the person to me, noting that he was told not to.
As I entered the reserved room, I was shocked to see Caroline sitting comfortably, her legs crossed and her eyes shooting glares at me.
“Ca… Caroline… What are you…”
“Sit,” she ordered.
“Uhn?”
“Nevermind then, since you don't like my civility, I'll come to you.” She stood up and walked towards me, making me shift uncomfortably despite my desire to be brave for once in my life and face her.
“I'll only say this once, stay away from Alpha Zeke. He's my man and I don't like to share.”
“But he's my mate. I can understand if he tells me to stay away from him but…” She cut me off with a laughter that echoed in the room.
“So, it talks?” She giggled and then added, “Do you think because I'm alone I can't deal with you? I could kill you right here and no one would do anything about it.”
“Why do you hate me so much? I never did anything to you.”
“You existed! Your disgusting existence irks me and earns me every right to hurt you however I want. What baffles me is you have the guts to want what's mine? And you even went ahead to kiss him? You must be sick in the head.”
“It's not my fault! He was simply mated to me!” I was tired of all her bullying and for once, I wanted to air my view, at least, maybe she could see the harm she was doing to me. I raked my hair with my fingers in frustration and added, “Can you please stop bullying me already? It hurts so bad that I'm being treated like trash when all I did was nothing but be an omega.”
“How about… no? I'll do as I wish and you will also do as I wish!” She thundered and I flinched. She was a beta, stronger, better and faster. No matter what, I had to respect her, especially seeing as she was the daughter of one of the most influential men on earth.
“What if I refuse to stay away from him?” I asked, something even my wolf begged me not to say.
“What was that?”
“What if I…” I started but was cut short by a sharp pain that pierced through me, making me gasp.
I looked down to my stomach where the pain was coming from and I saw a dagger stuck inside me. My inside churned and I felt suffocated by the effect the wolfsbane had on me, I dropped to the floor in excruciating pain.
“That's what you get for that rubbish.” She hissed and simply walked out.
I tried to scream or at least say something but my words were muffled up in my mouth. My wolf was weak and my body numb. I couldn't think, I couldn't move. I just laid there as the wolfbane reached my heart, making me slowly give up to the pain.
“Ava! Ava!”
Those were the last words I heard from his familiar voice before giving up to the welcoming hands of oblivion.
