Mara Collins didn't plan to have a one-night-stand with the man who hated her the most in college, but after a truth-or-dare game gone wrong, she wakes up to find herself tangled in the sheets with him. What follows after that night scars her for life as Damian rains abuses on her before walking out of her life. She got pregnant and has a sick son who needs constant treatment, but her salary is barely enough to help them.

When her son gets worse, she is driven into desperation to do the unthinkable which earns her a job in the highest paying company of the country as the secretary to Damian Voss, her worst enemy.

Damien Voss recognizes her instantly as the scholarship student he hated back in college, and the disturbing memory of sleeping with her and regretting it the next morning. He can't fire her because his father is in charge of her employment, but he does everything possible to make her resign but nothing gets through to her. She isn't even moved by his actions and she does her job flawlessly and treats his ego like a minor inconvenience, and it maddens him.

He wants her out of his company and out of his life for good, but the more she resists his advances, the darker his obsession becomes of her, and he realizes his feelings have gone past hatred to something else he can't name, and Mara? She has her secret to keep until she can afford a decent life, until then, Damian is a nobody to her.

Five Years Ago
Mara Collins POV “You’re going!" Jasmine stood over me with her brows pulled together in frustration after trying and failing to get me to wear the shortest dress I had ever seen, just because of a stupid party. "I'm not coming, Jas," I said softly as I flipped the pages of my book. "As you can see, I still have a lot of pages to cover up. Our final semester exams are fast approaching, and—" "Oh, spare me that bullshit!" She stomped her feet on the ground. "We all know you will get an A+ in all your courses whether you read or not!" She gritted her teeth together and slammed my book shut. "Don't you get it?" "Get what?" I pulled the book from under her grip and read it again. "That I can get drunk and have those rich snobs take my nudes and use them as blackmail like they always do in all parties?" I scoffed. "I'm quite okay right here, Jas. If you want to go, I'm not stopping you. But be careful." "Do you know that your certificate is almost useless in the outside world if you don't have connections?" Her voice got even lower, and I hated the sickening feeling that she was right about this. "You are a scholarship student, Mara, and the highest your certificate can get you is a sales rep in the kinds of companies you dream of working with. These people..." She pointed outside the window towards the tallest building of the college where the party was taking place. "Connecting with those rich snobs can guarantee you the highest paying jobs in those companies. They already like you, for goodness’ sake. Use that to your own advantage!" "So..." I thought about it for a while because it made sense. Even though it was a painful reality, the truth was the truth. "I'm basically coming to a frat party to network with rich kids?" "Yes..." She said after a while, with relief crossing her face as she stood to her full height and, for the first time this evening, a beautiful smile graced her lips. "Just networking." There were lots of things wrong with her definition of "networking", especially when it came to the dress code that she pushed in front of me, but I wasn't going to argue anymore. I would give her the satisfaction of having convinced me, and when she lowered her guard, I would slip out unnoticed and come back to the dorms. "Fine... Let me have the dress." * The frat house looked basically like a mansion, and I was very skeptical about this place, especially with the place teeming with lots of adults. This wasn't my usual environment. I loved the quiet. I loved peace. But this? This was chaos... "Jas..." I inched closer to her ears so she could hear me above the music, "I feel so uncomfortable to be here." Jasmine's eyes lit up like a candle, and she tugged me towards a heap of masks. "If you're scared someone will see your face and wonder why you're here, you can use one of these." "But that beats the purpose of networking..." "Who said we were networking?" The corners of her lips tugged into a smirk. "We are here to have fun. Come on, let's go find out people." By "our people", Jasmine meant the people we had the same classes with, and my expression soured immediately when I saw the man I hated most. Damien Voss. He was surrounded, as usual, by a group of students who were his fanboys and wanted to get his attention so badly because his father was the literal owner of this school, and he had the most connections there. I asked before turning around to find a quiet place for me to stay, but everywhere was filled up, and Jasmine had disappeared somewhere around the room, and I was left to stand in the middle of the room, awkwardly. Damien turned his head towards my direction, and I was held in place by the intensity of his eyes as a little smirk came on his face. I felt the goosebumps rise on my skin as he made his way towards me with slow and measured steps, until he was standing in front of me. "Are you lost, baby girl?" He smirked and leaned in to hold my hand and kiss my back. I slapped his hand away almost instantly. "If this is the way you pick up girls, I must say that you need to up your game. This is terrible and pathetic." I watched his expression morph from shock, to anger as he recognized my voice instantly. "Mara?" He stumbled backwards, and I chuckled, taking off the mask. "Of course it's me." I rolled my eyes. "What the f**k is miss goody two shoes doing here? You ran out of pages to read from your textbooks?" His arrogance had come as he mocked me. "Oh dear..." I giggled, covering my mouth slightly. "Trust me, I will give anything to be anywhere else but here, but I'm not surprised you're here though." My smirk deepened. "Because what else would explain why you keep flunking your grades? Oh, I almost forgot." I leaned closer. "Daddy's money can make all your problems go away." "You b***h—" "Hey, hey, hey..." Our colleagues were already surrounding us to pull us away from each other because we would be doing this until one person surrendered. And I never surrendered when it came to mutts like his. "Let's do something interesting instead." Jasmine stood between us, appearing from wherever she had disappeared to. "How about we play a game? The exciting game we play at parties... I guess it will help ease the tension growing between you two." "Truth Or Dare?" Someone asked, and I paled immediately. I hated it. "I'll be on my way out, Jas. I'm not up for this." I turned away to leave when his taunt reached my ears. "Oh, little miss is terrified of a simple truth or dare game? Scared we might uncover that she had been picked up from the trash and slept her way through school to be able to reach this level." I didn't know when I turned until my palms designed his face with a loud thwack. "Don't you dare, Damien. I think it's better we uncover how much of a lowlife you really are, the only difference being that you have your father's money to cover for how dumb and useless you really are. Maybe your mother would wish she used a condom instead of letting your dad c*m inside her." I turned to Jasmine and smiled darkly. "Let's start the game, shall we?" * But the game wasn't what I expected because I was drunk before I knew it. It was like we were being set up. Every time the bottle reached Damien or me, we were not allowed to choose "truths", and were only dared to kiss each other. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I managed to glare at Jasmine when I was much less drunk, but she smirked evilly, and dared Damian to do the same thing. We were far too drunk that I was barely able to carry my own weight, when Jasmine helped me towards one of the rooms in the building, and she whispered something in my ears as she left. "You need to loosen up, Mara." She whispered. "Both of you need to." * I woke up to a loud cursing sound. "What the f**k are you doing in my bed, Mara?" His voice was unmistakeable, and my eyes snapped open immediately. I was stunned to see him standing over me with eyes blazing as his eyes made hot blazing trails over my naked body. I sat up immediately, and realized in horror at how sticky the insides of my thighs were, and when I stared up at him, he was naked too, only with a small towel that covered his manhood. A sickening realization of what just happened hit me. Did I just have s*x with the enemy? I found my voice immediately, slightly ashamed and put off by this, especially with the way my body was still responding to the sight of his bare body. “I didn’t—” “You did not what?” he growled. “Didn’t you plan this? Didn’t see an opportunity and take it?” My chest went hot. “I was drunk.” “Right. The scholarship girl gets drunk and ends up in my bed. How convenient.” I stood, not caring that I was naked, or the fact that his Adam's apple bopped on seeing my nakedness. “You think I wanted this? I would rather make out with a cheese grater than have you touch me! Who knows if this wasn't your plan all along?" His jaw tightened. "And you think I would want to get infected by whatever rubbish bin you came out of?" His eyes darkened. "Get the f**k out of my room, Mara, and I swear, if I ever see you again, I will make sure you don't graduate, and you'll be thrown out of this school for no reason!”
