Chapter 25 Ten minutes into the drive, Evie stops singing in mid-verse and says, “This isn’t the way to your house.” Gavin likes that she always calls his apartment his “house.” It makes the place sound so much grander than it is. “I know, honey,” he says, giving her a smile in the rearview mirror. “We’re going to spend the weekend at the beach.” Her eyes pop open wide enough for him to see the whites ring completely around the irises.
