Chapter 27 The excitement of the day gets to Evie, just as Gavin hoped it would. By eight in the evening, she’s nodding off during her cartoons. When he tells her to change into her pajamas, she throws a tantrum, tears and all. That’s how he knows she’s really tired. “I didn’t say you have to go to bed,” he says as she wails in protest. “I just said you have to put on your PJs. I’m going to count to three. One.” On the couch beside Gavin, Brody covers his mouth with one hand to hide his smirk. “Two,” Gavin warns. Evie stomps her feet. “I don’t want to!” she cries. “Just put on your pajamas,” Gavin says again. “You don’t have to go to sleep yet.
