Chapter 6

RACHEL'S POV The look on his face broke my heart into a million pieces. I was not surprised, this was something that would happen either sooner or later, a moment I wished would never come but is finally here—the moment of rejection. “Do you have a disease or something?” He asked, the look on his face was something between irritation and disgust. I picked up my mask and covered my face again. I stood there with my eyes closed and awaited his rejection. When it didn’t come, I opened my eyes to see that he was still waiting for an answer from me. “Its… it’s not a disease, my skin has always been like that.” I murmured. He moved closer and removed my mask. Suddenly, I was reminded of the kiss we had shared and tried not to meet his eyes, he was too close for comfort, and I could smell his fur, he had a woody smell. “I believe there must be an explanation for this, you’re a wolf, not only a wolf but my destined mate. You can’t look like this.” He sounded disturbed, angry, The sound of a trumpet stopped my next words. The Queen was here. “I will go welcome the queen.” He said and walked out on me. I couldn’t help but feel choked and I felt tears threaten to pour. My eyes scanned around for Davina and her heartthrob, and I found them outside, in each other’s arms, unfortunately, I had to interrupt them. I cleared my throat. “Didn’t you love birds hear the announcement of the Queen’s arrival?” Davina blushed like a child caught wearing makeup, “We were about to head in.” Raymond and I only nodded at each other; we both didn’t know each other yet but our love for Davina was bound to bring us together. “What about you?” Raymond asked me, he gave me a weird look, like he could see the tears I was sure were yet to pour out. “Where are you going?” “I’m sure she was looking for me,” Davina said in between laughs, unaware of what was happening. When Raymond’s eye didn’t leave mine, I confessed. “I want to leave… I thought I should tell you before I do.” Davina switched to her caring mode immediately. “Why? What happened?” She said, touching me and checking for anything that would explain why I wanted to leave so early. “I am not feeling too well.” I lied. Davina bought it, she was about to envelop me in her hug which always made me feel better when Raymond said, “That doesn’t explain why you have the Alpha’s smell all over you.” I became the kid caught stealing sweets. “I…I… I danced with him.” Davina was so happy, “You danced with the Alpha? How did I miss that? Tell me everything that happened.” “I think she still has more to say.” Raymond peered. It was at that moment I knew he knew, how he knew? I didn’t know—no need to lie. “It turned out that I am his mate,” I said the words as quietly as I could, there were chances I could still be rejected, and I didn’t want any rumors spreading. Davina was shocked. “What?” Then she went back to happy mode, “I told you, I told you your mate was here in London waiting for you all along, and you got the best. The Alpha!” She had forgotten I was trying to run back to the hotel but Raymond hadn’t. “And why were you trying to leave?” “Did he reject you?” Davina’s voice turned angry like she was going to kick Alpha Axel’s ass if he had rejected me. “The Alpha would never reject his mate.” Raymond defended. “Whose side are you on?” Davina shot back at him. “He didn’t reject me,” I announced before the lovers became fighters. “Okay. But why do you want to leave?” Davina asked quietly, she had begun to realize how serious the issue was. “How can I stay? How do I present this face to all those people?” I took a deep breath as I thought of another option. “Why don’t I reject him?” Raymond burst into laughter, Both Davina and I shot him angry faces that made him stop laughing. “You can’t reject him even if you want Rachel, I don’t think you are strong enough to break the bond you have with the Alpha. I believe you are stronger than this, why don’t we go back inside?” He said, and for the first time, someone other than Davina’s words calmed me. Raymond held my right hand while Davina hooked her arm around my left like I was going to run away. “How did you know?” I asked Raymond, he knew what I meant. “Sorry, I forgot to tell you both. I am Alpha Axel’s personal Adviser. I knew everything that happened to him.” That explained a lot. “Why did the queen have to come all the way here?” Davina asked. “You’ll find out soon enough.” “I’m not trying to run this time; I only want to pee.” I needed a little time to myself before I faced the Alpha again. Surprisingly, Raymond let me go, I was assuming he would question me or make sure I gave my word to come back. I didn’t go to the ladies, instead, I looked for a quiet place where I could sit and breathe for a little while. I found this big rock behind the building, there was a garden there, it was quiet, dark and beautiful. Unfortunately for me, an ugly voice stopped me the moment I tried to sit. “That mask only makes you look uglier.” Who else would it be if not Janet and her evil assistant? “I don’t think you deserve that dress.” Kora was the one to envy anything beautiful. I would never have thought they would attempt to hurt me so I sat and did my best to ignore them, only to be shocked when Janet picked up a stone and turned to Kora, “How about we ruin the dress?” She didn’t get the opportunity to do it because a voice growled from the dark. “Get your hands off my woman!!”
