I hadn't known gavin long but in that short time i learned more about him than i ever thought possible, from him learning sign language so i would always have a friend, to him stepping back so i would never need to loose him. From him singing, being protective, from taking a stand and staying by my bedside, from stories he told me about him and desmond, how he never touched a soul in 18 years because he couldn't bare the thought of being with anyone but desmond.
He was one of the loves of my life and i can only imagine how much that love will continue to grow day by day as i miss him.
Desmonds arms wrap around my waist as i take another drag from my joint then i pass it up to him, he takes a drag before leaning down and kissing my temple softly
“Shall we walk now?”
“Yes please”
He smiles, taking my hand and leading me down the decking steps to the waters edge, we follow the path in silence, the fresh air felt good, amazing actually, hope pushes forward taking in a deep calming breath, both of us busy rejecting the same memory constantly running on a loop in my head. I'd do anything to get that image out of my brain.
As we reach the training field everyones eyes turn to us, they looked heartbroken as each and everyone of them bare their necks in submission, one after the other like a wave through the crowd. A man i didn't recognise comes running over
“alpha , luna, i have no words to describe how sorry i am that you lost gavin, please if you ever need anything dont ever be afraid to ask me”
Desmond sighs nodding his head
“Thanks kole, ill keep that in mind, for now just continue on with his tasks, when i come back to work i can make things official”
I look up at desmond, my heart starts racing at the thought of replacing gavin so soon, my heart reacting before my head can stop me
“YOUR REPLACING HIM!”
I shout pulling away from him, his eyebrows shoot up in surprise
“I never said that, nobody could fill the hole he left behind but his work does need done baby, its not replacing him its just people taking the work so its easier for dad”
I shake my head as the tears start to roll down my cheeks, dropping my head i dont bother answering, i know what he said is true but it doesnt make it hurt less.
I walk off towards the treeline avoiding the eyes of everyone who was watching me
“Baby just wait im sorry”
I wag my hand at him
“No its fine, its my fault i shouldn't have said that”
I tell him as he rushes after me, he stops my shoulders and turns me around
“Your allowed to feel your feelings baby, i never wanted it to sound like i was replacing him because honestly i cant bare it but the load of this pack is heavy and i need more than just him, me and you to run it if we ever want any sort of life. Gavin knew that and he wanted kole to take the position as beta when we got back, that’s the only reason he’s doing what he’s doing now. Please forgive me?”
He asks, holding my face, i felt so guilty for hurting him, especially knowing he was gavin's choice. like he doesn't already hurt enough and here comes me, emotionally punching him in the gut when he's already been slaughtered by fate.
“No it should be me asking for forgiveness not you”
“Well then lets just both forget this ever happened and go to the waterfall?”
I nod in agreement, taking his hand again, then we both walk past the rest of the warriors who had apparently watched the entire thing go down. Hope takes her place at the front of my mind, relaxing more every second she feels the breeze on her face.
As we round the line of warriors most had went back to training, a few lingered on just to watch us pass but as we are about to walk into the forest hope takes over, stopping my body and pushing forward
“What the f**k?”
I ask her as she yanks me back, a feral growl rumbles through our chest as the voices hit me. She had been listening to them all as we walked, whatever katy had done she helped me isolate the thoughts in my head that i did not need and concentrate on just the ones i was focusing on but somehow hope pulled that veil back so i could hear everything once again, i cringe as all the noises overpower me.
Hope then filters through the sounds isolating a few voices in particular, it all happens in a split second
“I heard it was her fault, she apparently let it all happen”
“Nah she was destroyed by it, there is no way she let it happen”
“Well maybe thats why the stupid cow is destroyed, she let it happen, you know what those royals are like, they have no regard for our kind, to them we are nothing but peasants”
“Our luna is not like that, shes a good woman and she will make a great luna when she gets the chance to grieve now if you dont mind get back to training and if i hear you talk in such away again ill let the alpha know and he will be the one dealing with you and not me”
I recognised that voice as the man who had just talked to us
“Oh please get over yourself kole your not ranked you can't tell me to do s**t and what alpha are you talking about? The one she allowed her sister to kill or the one standing by her side only because of a bond. Lets face it when he figures out how to remove a lycan bond he will be shot of her so damn fast she will evaporate into dust as she should”
The man growls, and another squeaks
“s**t kole i know she's a b***h but you dont have the authority to do that yet”
That was the other kind woman who had defended me, i swing around to find them as desmond waves his hands in my face but i ignore him
“BRING HER TO ME”
Hope roars over the crowd, silencing them once again, as they go quiet they slowly start to seperate, building a path through the people
“What happened?”
Desmond asks quietly
“You will see soon enough”
Hope answers just as the crowd breaks free and standing to the back was the man i now know as Kole and the b***h who was talking smack about us, kole looked almost frightened, all the colour drains from his face, as he should, the sound of hope's voice almost sends a shiver down my own spine
“Bring. Her. to. Me. NOW!”
She orders, Desmond's eyes shoot up in surprise as a frightened kole drags her towards me, her tan complexion suddenly looks a whole lot whiter, her fear stinking up the area as she tries to pull away from the man.
A woman behind him was smirking, enjoying the moment as she was dragged up front like a naughty school girl in trouble with the teacher, i had zero control of my body but to be honest i didn't really give a s**t what hope did to her. Hope was being the luna we always new she was going to be, im softer, more gentle but shes fierce, feral and the perfect counterpart to my chilled personality
As they approach hope nods for the man to drop her, grasping the air in front of us with her hands she starts to mumble and chant. As he lets go of her she gasps as the force of hopes magic spreads over her, talking her breath away and sending her into the air where she was left levitating above the crowd.
The people gasp stepping back as hope glares at the girl, she allows me forward just slightly so i could see better
“Why dont you tell everyone what you just said”
By now the woman had tears stream down her face, hope lets her breath and she chants again, the air around the woman suddenly starts to echo, as she starts to talk and repeat what she had just said the sound was like a sonic boom, reaching the ears of even those in their houses.
Desmond growls as she talks, looking to me as she stops
“Drop the b***h!”
He snaps, the sound rings out around the place just like it did for the woman who was still in the air, hope reacts immediately, throwing her further into the sky before she lets her go and allows her to fall to the floor with a bang. Hope smirks as the woman whimpers, her bones crunching under the impact.
