THEY GATHERED THEIR belongings and, with Marco and Dani’s help, carried everything down to the parking garage, where Marco obtained a car for them. Marco sat in the front seat with Tom and directed him up the mountain to his and Dani’s home, with Dani following them in another car. At the house, Marco and Dani showed them to a pleasant guest room on the second floor with its own covered terrace facing the waterfall.
“Do you think you’ll be able to find your way down the mountain and to the university, Tom?” Marco said.
“That won’t be a problem,” Tom said.
“Good. There’s a security man living over the garage—we’ll introduce you to him, and the house is yours until you fly back to Florida.”
