Seventy-Three Monday, June 6 Kānoa Fishpond, Moloka‘i Once she got down the steep hill, Eva looked around and spotted Thomas’s lone broad-shouldered form sitting on the lava rock wall of Kānoa Fishpond. Not wanting to waste another moment, she took off as fast as she could, doing her best to pick her way through the debris along the shore. When at last she sat beside Thomas on the low fortification, she paused for a few minutes to catch her breath and figure out what to say. He didn’t say a word to her, but neither did he turn away. It was as if he was waiting for her to say something. Finally, she spoke. “I’m so sorry. But there’s something I should have told you. I’ve had so many chances to do so.
