Chapter 1: The City of Nightmares
Lilah Evernight pulled her coat tighter around her body as she walked through the dimly lit streets of Ebonvale. The city was a maze of towering skyscrapers and back alleys, neon signs flickering like dying stars above her. She had only been here for a few weeks, but the unease never faded. Something about this place felt...wrong.

And then, before Lilah could process it, the man’s hand shot forward. The wounded man screamed as shadows erupted from the predator’s palm, wrapping around his victim’s body like living tendrils.
Lilah’s breath caught. She couldn’t move. Couldn’t think.
The predator turned his head slightly. His glowing gaze landed on her.
She was dead.
She knew it.
And yet, instead of attacking, his eyes narrowed. “You’re not supposed to be here.”
Lilah stumbled back, heart racing. “I—I didn’t see anything.”
A slow, dark smirk curved his lips. “Liar.”
Before she could scream, the shadows surged toward her
