Airi reached a hand out and quickly slapped Zexal, tears streaming down her face. It happened quickly and without her in control. She stood there, her eyes wide and in shock. Why did I just do that? She reached out with the same hand and gently stroked where she hit him. “I-I’m sorry… I don’t know what got into me.” Zexal stood in shock, attempting to comprehend what he had just experienced. A slight pain was stinging on his cheek but it was being smothered by the gentle stroking. He grabbed her wrist and removed her hand from his cheek. Is she getting her memories back? I’ll have to have the doctor take a look at her again. Chapter 17 Hiding behind bushes, a girl looked around at the street and the alleyway in front of her. She turned around to the others. “Okay, looks like it’s clear.” She stood up, “let’s go.” Then, in the alleyway, a demon made its appearance. A vampire, sniffing the air, hoping to find food. His eyes were red, his fangs extended, and his stomach felt hunger pains. Food… I need food… On his mind was only the need for sustenance. He smelled a human nearby, at the end of the alleyway. He walked, panting as the hunger felt more and more unbearable. The girl spotted him, “Crap, there he is.” One of the others prepared his bow, nocking an arrow and taking aim. He took air in his lungs, attempting to slow his heartbeat and refrain from missing. A dark shadow caught his eye behind this vampire. What is that? He loosened the tensity on the string, deciding not to fire the arrow, and watched. A hand burst from the vampire’s chest, clutching a beating heart. The vampire looked down at his own heart, his hands shakily reaching for it. The hand quickly squeezed, turning the heart into mush, and pulled back. The vampire turned to ash where he stood. “Crow” dropped the crushed organic ticker onto the pile of ash at his feet and wiped off the remaining ashes clinging to him with his other, dry, hand. The girl stood behind the bush in shock. Is that another Hunter? He just took out that vampire with his bare hands! “Tab, what do we do?” No response came. “Tab!” One of the others, the one with the bow in hand, yelled to her for orders. “Crow” approached them, keeping his eyes on every one of the Hunters in front of him. Tab, looking at him in awe, couldn’t move. She was captivated by his handsome face and his long messy hair. What is wrong with me… He looks like he hasn’t taken a shower! She shook her head, clearing it of her impure thoughts and gave her orders, “Fight him and slay him, this one’s an irregular.”
