CHAPTER 3

~EMILY'S POV~

It was raining heavily; I still had to get to Ethan's house. I can't afford to lose that amount of money.

The traffic was heavy, and I couldn't make it in time.

I got out of the cab and hurried towards his house; he was already standing outside with an umbrella.

By the time I got there, my clothes were drenched, and my shoes were wet.

“Why are you late?"

“I'm sorry, the rain was heavy, and it caused traffic"

“You are late. How should I punish you?”

"I'm sorry.” I was freezing in the rain.

"Since The Hayes loves to punish people in the rain, you should be able to do that.” He said.

“Then I'll punish you by making you kneel in the rain”, He said with a smug smile on his face.

“Ethan!”

The man who once loved me dearly now hates me to the bone.

“What did I ever do wrong?" I screamed at the top of my voice.

“Kneel."

“Why do you have to humiliate me over and over again?"

He clenched his fist and looked at me.

"You still have the nerve to ask, huh?” He held me by the neck.

"Back then you discarded me like trash. You abandoned me. You threw a divorce agreement at me and aborted our child.”

“I won't spare you until you pay back every cent of what you've done" I could sense his anger.

Did he misunderstand me all these years?

What divorce agreement was he talking about?

I looked up and saw his girlfriend by his side.

He has found someone on his side; why does he have to torture me?

I'll leave once I've raised Liam's surgery fee.

I cried hard till I passed out.

~ETHAN'S POV~

“Why are you late?"

Emily was looking drenched in the rain. It rained heavily that night, but she still came.

If she is in need of money, she could do anything for it. The Hayes are capable enough. Why does she have to sell herself out?

It was raining heavily that night. I visited the Hayes mansion hoping to see Emily.

"I won't let her meet you” Her stepmother sneered.

“Then I won't leave" I knelt in the rain.

I can't give up on you just like that, Emily.

"I won't leave until I see her”, I said with my voice shaking.

" Then you can remain there” she turned her back and left.

I knelt in the rain for more than three hours till I passed out. I woke up the next morning in the hospital.

“I'll punish you by making you kneel in the rain”

I won't forgive her easily. I felt like killing her each time I saw her.

She could bring herself to kill her unborn child; she has to atone for her sins.

I walked to the balcony upstairs to watch. I can't let her die until she pays for everything.

"Brother”, Hailey called. She brought a towel to wipe my hair.

"Why are you outside? You should be sleeping”

"Is that not the woman you've been looking for for years?”

I looked down, looking at Emily with disgust.

"I know you brought her here to be my caretaker so she could stay by your side” She said.

“Don't interfere in my business"

" But she has been kneeling in the rain for almost an hour; something bad could happen to her”

“She deserves every single thing happening to her; she murdered our child"

"She has fainted!” Hailey screamed.

My brain moved before my body; I rushed downstairs, forgetting I hated her. I can't afford to lose her again.

Luckily, she was still a little bit conscious.

“I won't bother you anymore; I'll leave for good," she said.

“I won't let you leave; you still have to pay for everything."

I drove to the hospital and took her to the ward immediately.

“Please, you have to save her" I held the doctor's hand, panicking.

My hands were shaking; the same hands I strangled her with

It was almost two hours; I was feeling restless for a moment. I forgot everything she had done to me.

Shortly, the doctor finally came out.

" How is she?”

"She has been malnourished for a long time, and her exposure to cold caused a high fever. If the high fever persists, it could be life-threatening," he said and went back into the ward.

“Life-threatening!" My blood went cold

I won't forgive myself if anything happens to her.

“Oh, it's you, Ethan" A female doctor walked up to me.

“Why didn't you look for Emily and her child for so long"

“Don't mention the child; she killed the baby when it was already forming" I clenched my fist.

“What are you talking about? Your child has been with Emily all along"

“What!"

After the Hayes family's downfall, Emily worked herself to the bone to take care of her child and pay for your burial plot for four years.

Did Emily really not abort the child? Am I wrong about her?.

“What child are you talking about?”

She brought out her phone and showed me a picture of Emily and a boy he haeyes exactly like mine. Could this be our child?

"Dr. Rae, Liam wants to see his mum”

I saw a boy along the hallway with a toy car in his hand.

I looked at the boy on the phone and the one before me; he was Emily's child.

He looked up at me

“Is... is this my child with Emily?" I fell on my knees.

“Daddy."
