Caleb POV
I finish cleaning up the kitchen and head out the door, I need to get to training and get my mind off this mess.
I shove my clothes in a bag and shift into Jax; we pick up the bag and run. The ground pounding beneath my paws and the wind on my fur calms me. We take a back way through the woods behind Daliah’s house. I didn’t ask before but it really shows how much land she has, I haven’t asked outright but from my guess it would be a couple dozen acres. After about forty minutes of running full speed I slow down a bit to enjoy the scenery. Jax stops at a small pond and looks down, our light brown fur blows gently with the wind and our emerald eyes shine brightly, he looks as sad as I feel.
*what’s up bud?* I ask him knowing the answer, but I know Jax and he will feel somewhat better if we talk about it.
*Our mate it angry with us. We need to mark her and life will be easier.* he groans.
I roll my eyes at him *we’ve been over this Jax.*
We start to walk down the tree line, we are still a few miles away from training but we are early this morning.
*I know Caleb but I don’t like it.* he grunts and shakes his head.
*We don’t really have a choice. We have to let her decide what is best for her. We can’t take advantage of her vunerability.* I want her to be fully ours just as much as he does. I understand his frustration.
Jax ignores me and takes back off through the tree line. Once we see the demons training up ahead we duck behind a tree and shift back, I grab my clothes out of the bag and throw them on. Not too many men have arrived so I head over the wolf training area and stretch out.
“Look what the cat dragged in.” I look up and see Dominique strolling towards me, he is the only real friend I’ve made since I got here, he and I actually arrived together.
I wave my hand at him “Hey Dom, what’s up?”
He leans closer and scrunches his brows together like he’s thinking about something “You smell like her again.” He stands back and smiles “But this time the scent is almost overpowering your own. Did you bag yourself an Alpha or something Caleb?” he chuckles at my annoyed expression.
“Well Dom, not that it’s any of your business I have found my mate.” I probably shouldn’t have said that but the dude was kind of pissing me off.
His eyes grow wide and his jaw drops “No way!” he leans in close and whispers “The Huntress?” he asks giving me a knowing look. I don’t know how much I really trust the guy so I really don’t want to give too much away, besides for all I know Daliah may come home tonight and reject me.
“No Dom. Not The Huntress.” I lie.
“Then why the hell do you reek of her scent?” I don’t like that he knows her scent. She doesn’t get close to anyone so how would he know what she smells like?
“How do you even know her scent Dom?” I ask accusingly.
He looks at me with amusement in his eyes “Oh are we getting jealous there my friend?”
I hold back the growl that wants to escape; I can’t let him know my feelings for her.
He chuckles and leans back against the tree “How can you not know her scent dude? She is the strongest fighter here, from what I heard though, she was the daughter of some Alpha prick who she killed because he wanted her to marry some other Alphas son, but she didn’t want to, and since apparently she can’t control her temper she lashed out and ripped his head off his body!”
I stare at him, is that really the story going around? “Do you always believe rumors Dom? Especially ones spread by demons?” I ask him, he may not be the brightest but surely he doesn’t believe that crap.
He holds his hands up defensively “Hey man that’s just the story I’ve been hearing.”
I roll my eyes and look past him, “Looks like everyone is here, we should probably head over there before they make us run extra laps.”
He nods and we head off towards the rest of the trainees.
After eight hours and extra laps thanks to Dominique’s nonsense. We are finally getting a break, I head over to the snack shed to grab some lunch. I snag myself a couple sandwiches, chips, an apple, and some Gatorade, and head over to a nearby tree to relax and eat.
Half way through my lunch the lovely white cloud of smoke appears making me choke, I wave the smoke away and cough “Come on man, do you have to be so dramatic with the entrances?” I ask
Before I know it Vald has me pinned against the tree. “I smell her all over you, you filthy mutt! Now where is she?” he demands before throwing my across the grass into another tree.
I cough and stand up ready to attack if he tries that crap again “What the hell are you talking about Vlad?”
His eyes turn red and his fangs begin to extend “You know damn good and well WHO I am talking about mutt! Now where is she? Where is my future mate?”
Him calling my mate his makes Jax growl *let me rip that punks head off!* I push Jax back; I can’t focus on him and this vampire in front of me.
Vlad doesn’t miss the growl his glare turns deadly “What’s the problem pup? Don’t like me calling her MY mate?” he emphasizes each word making Jax and myself angrier.
“I don’t know where The Huntress is! Even if I did I sure as hell wouldn’t tell you!” I spit out and with that he lunges as me.
This time I was ready so I quickly dodges his attack and stood back waiting for the next, I know if I lunge at him here or even hurt him I will have thousands of demons on me, this is not the time or place.
Vlad locks eyes with me, he is burning with rage. “I could kill you with the snap of my fingers pup. You are no challenge to me. You are just a weak nobody. Hence why you are nothing but a rogue, no one will ever love you especially The Huntress.” He hisses at me.
*KILL HIM NOW CALEB!* Jax is screaming to take control I’m sure my eyes are changing back and forth from blue to green.
I take a few deep breaths and open my eyes to see Vlad smirking at me.
“Her scent is all over you. I’m sure I can think of an easy way to find what is rightfully mine.”
He snaps his fingers and before I know it a silver chain is clasped around my arms and two Ogres are holding me down so I’m flat on the ground.
I look up to see Vlad standing over me his eyes are back to black and he kneels down so he can whisper in my ear. “I would be willing to bet if I kept you that a certain Huntress may come looking to save you. And by that disgusting small radiating off of you I’d be willing to bet you my dear pet, are in fact her mate.” He stands back up and smiles wickedly “for now that is.”
I try to struggle out of their hold but they are stronger and the silver is making me weaker. “She doesn’t give a f**k about me Vlad! She won’t come for me!” I really don’t believe she will with how angry she was this morning. She will probably assume I was mad at her and didn’t want to come back.
His smile grows more sinister and he rips a piece of my shirt and drops it on the ground. “So she can follow your scent back to me.” He winks and then we are all surrounded in a cloud of white smoke.
We disappear from the spot in the forest and reappear in a dark cave.
A light flashes on and a vampire I don’t know is so close to my face I can smell the death on his breath, something is stopping him from reaching me. Once my eyes adjust I notice chains are holding him to a wall.
“Get comfortable with your new roommate wolf.” I hear cell doors slam shut and lock. I scoot as close back to the wall as I can but this crazed vampire is still trying to get to me.
I look over and watch as Vlad and the two ogres walk down the dark hallway laughing.
This is going to be a long night.
