Meeting
LOCATION: HOMEROOM. TIME: August/24/7:59am
Pura:
Summer was too short but I can say with the utmost confidence that Iโm glad to be back. I can only say that because Iโm almost done with this small chapter of my life that is high school over. Walking through those big blue doors did give me a slight sense of nostalgia. It was hard to believe that this was going to be my last year walking down these halls and seeing these ugly green lockers that no one liked and smelling this musty filled air because boys with morning sport practices didnโt know what proper hygiene was. Now that Iโm here in the moment of being a senior Iโm already over it. The bell blares through the school letting everyone know to get to class and I follow suit knowing where my class is. Some freshman girls ask me about a building and I point them in the right direction.
I finally get to my class with a couple minutes to spare and wait for the teacher. A younger woman walks in and you can tell she is fresh out of college. "Hello everyone, I'm Miss. Judet your new homeroom teacher for this year...Happy first day of school and let me just start by saying that I'm glad to be here this year at Summit Creek High School but, since this is my first year and I Don't know any of you I will be passing out these little get to know you papers and that's all for today. I know when I was your age- oh well never mind I Don't want to bore you with the details so yeah, just come up and get one, also if you ever need someone to talk to my door is always open, well unless it's closed. Hahahahah." over compensator, people pleaser, talkative. That's the sudden vibe I'm getting from my new homeroom teacher. I looked around and looked at everyone's faces, they already hated her. I've never seen a teacher get so much hate in the span of three minutes. Fascinating.
I got up and got the worksheet like I was told. I'm one of the last to do so, as I grab the paper and turn away from my teacher she stops me with a slight whisper.
"What's your name?"
"Pura," I answered with a smile even though I didn't feel like smiling. I have a feeling if I didn't smile she would think that I hate her or am just another easily annoyed teen and neither of those assumptions are true.
She smiles as well and proceeds to ask some questions about my name that I get all the time and eventually I sit back down in my seat.
I look at the paper and see the questions. It asks for my name, family members' names, favorite food, activity and a box that you're supposed to put interesting things about yourself in. But one box catches my eye
'How would people describe you?'
Average. Plain. Simple. Now that Iโm thinking about it I realize that it might be the first words that pop into their heads when they think of me actually. Personally I donโt know why this is but, that's just how I'm viewed through people's eyes.
Actually, I can see why people think that. I live in a good, loving home with a mom and a dad who actually like each other and I have an older brother that tends to annoy me with his weekly girlfriends that he brings around the house but I know he would do anything for me. I have a boyfriend that I love and that loves me, A golden retriever named King. And I'm fairly liked at my school. The only thing not normal about me is my name. Pura, it sounds weird and I hate it. I mean why couldn't my name be Emily or Jennifer, that actually sounds normal. As far as I know, my name is Latin for pure but I've alway seen it as a way to give me somewhat of an edge over every other white girl like myself.
I finished the rest of the paper with some people around me interrupting me to talk to me about my summer and my trip to Iceland. Just your stereotypical stuff. I began to grow tired of this as time dragged on, my body is readjusting to just sitting at a desk fifty-five minutes at a time. After a few more grueling minutes the bell finally rang and everyone left and proceeded to bash our teacher again once they got out of earshot.
"Pura! Babe." I stopped and tensed a bit but realized we were in the hallway and I turned around with a smile at my boyfriend. Liam. He came closer to me and took my books out of my hand.
"Chivalry not dead." He laughed at my joke. And brushed his loose hairs back. He's so hot when he does that.
"No my lady, it's not." I couldnโt help but smile at him after that. I like this side of him. This Liam was the best Liam. We walked down the hallway and even on the first day everyone was captivated by Liam, but then again who wouldn't be. He was the type to command a room with the overwhelming sense of confidence that just radiated off him. He received waves here and there and every girl that cared gawked his way. Thatโs to be expected though, Liam was the golden basketball star. He was what I called freshman year the prize. He was all I had my eyes on and I beat every girl to him and now he's mine. I used to think that was a good thing, for the most part I still do.
Talking about our summers since we havenโt seen much of each other is all we could do. Laughing and throwing comments back and forth. It felt like we had talked for only a short time and I could see my next class not to far from me and all the sudden some guy bumped into Liam and my stuff went everywhere. I sighed and looked down at all my papers, I need to be more organized.
"What the hell dude? Do you not have eyes?" Liam said in a rather rude tone to the other guy and all he did was laugh like he found something humorous.
This will end badly. He's crazy
A crowd was forming and everyone knew Liam was a hot head and he tended to perform better with a crowd but he did just fine without. "The fact that you're still calling someone dude in 2019 is sad, you deserved your stuff to get knocked down." Who is this guy?
I could sense Liam getting mad. I know it all too well. I dropped down to the floor purposely right between them so now all eyes on me and began picking up my stuff and drawings. Liam stayed standing and didn't help me. I knew he was trying to keep his cool but he could at least help. The guy seemed to notice that Liam wasn't helping and that I was on the ground getting my jeans dirty.
"Why are you picking up his s**t? A pretty girl like you shouldn't be on your knees unless it's for me." This made me panic and almost laugh but Liam lost it. He jumped over me and grabbed the kids collar and then the minute bell rang. Oh, thank god. Everyone that was watching ran to class, but since no admin was around no one was breaking this up. Looks like mm getting swept on the first day.
"Liam! You have to get to class you Don't want to miss basketball tryouts because of this guy." I reasoned with him. The guy was full on smiling now. Waiting for Liam to react. He wanted to get punched. Weird.
Liam only has thirty seconds to decide and he chose to get to class like I knew he would. He let go of the crazy guy and kissed me super hard, way harder than necessary and said sorry he couldn't help me pick up my stuff and sprinted to class.
I was left to pick up my stuff by myself or so I thought when another pair of hands came into my line of sight helping me. To my surprise, it was the guy who basically said he wanted me to give him a blow job.
"I'm sorry about my boyfriend," I said instinctively. I was used to apologizing on Liam's behalf. He did things like this often. Even when he didn't need to.
"I'm sorry for knocking YOUR stuff over." He said putting emphasis on your.
"And for the blow job joke. It was rude. I was just trying to get a rise out of that d**k head." I laughed at this. No one intentionally messes with Liam Green. I knew this guy wasn't new. I saw him around last year, so what was his deal?
"Not a smart move, he's a crazy guy. Especially when it comes to his things." He looked up at me for the first time and he was a little taken back by what I said and to be honest so was I. He gave me a look that made me want to run and hide and for some reason at that exact moment our hands touched when we reached for the same piece of paper. I felt every fiber of my body move. It was like a wildfire even though the tile was freezing cold . I broke eye contact and scrambled to pick up my things. That was not what I was expecting to happen on the first day. I looked at my hand to see if I imagined that feeling but itโs not like I could feel it now. "I'm super late for class, I have to go."
"My name is Malum." He said standing up even though I didnโt ask. I was expecting to see a frown. But he was all smiles and for the first time, I was really able to take in his features. He had a strong jaw and he had some muscle on him but he's skinny for the most part. He was also kinda on the tall side with shaggy brown curly hair. He is cute. Too cute.
"Pura." With that, I walked away hoping that I would never see him again.
