that was the most honored greetings! For being called Khan Sahab was like a pride! some took it to heart, some realized it was a trap!
the Thalewas of Baltistan were farmers of Appricots and apples, some of the villagers were warriors in the court of the King of Baltistan! His family had both businesses, they had one or two sons in the army, the rest would do farming. Their dry fruits and Mason skills were amezing.
When british discovered their ability to survive and build in Harsh conditions they hired them to build forts and bungalows for them!
his, ohh sorry, Saleem Ali Thalewa, his family had moved from Skardu to Dehradun via Shimla! they lived in Shimla for about 50 years and then moved to Chakrata in Dehradun! It is a beautiful hill station about 95 kms North west of the Capital city and can be reached almost from all the directions!
the town was built by the Thalewas and Chorbat pas! People of Gilgit are called Chorbats and they were food traders and counselors.
for nearly a century, it took to build Chakrata as it looks today. there were stones in buildings dating 1760-1816, 1860-1905, 1890-1921 that were the time taken to built the house. Roads, streets, drainage system, the forests, everything is made and created by them
