Chapter 8: What Makes You Think I Will Accept You?

1000 Words
Kelvin who had been brimming with confidence deflated. He had thought that if Rora begged to be his wife, he might reluctantly agree. But now, hearing her words, his face turned dark. Mr. Smith was even more infuriated. He jumped to his feet, glaring at Rora as he angrily chided, "Wild girl, how dare you speak to Rara like that? Do you not realize that Rara is Sir Vandy's fiancée? You should be grateful that Kelvin is willing to marry an already-used apple like you, who lost her innocence at barely eighteen." Kelvin's face darkened further. Mr. Smith's words implied that he was willing to settle for someone else's leftovers. Realizing his mistake in the heat of the moment, Mr. Smith quickly tried to correct himself. "Rora, if I were you, I'd be on my knees begging Kelvin to accept me as his wife." Daniel, who had been silent until now, spoke up. "Steven, if she doesn't want to marry him, let my daughter marry him. That way, the Smiths will still be in-laws with the Hendersons." Without hesitation, Mr. Smith rejected the idea. "No way!" Daniel clenched his fists in anger, furious that his brother wouldn't even consider giving his daughter a chance, especially after Rora, whom the family had adopted, had rejected Kelvin. Meanwhile, Rora sat lazily, watching them like clowns performing in a circus. The atmosphere grew more awkward. Mr. Smith's face turned red with embarrassment. He hadn't expected that after all his scolding and ranting, Rora's only response would be a ridiculing gaze. Rora stood up slowly. After looking at everyone, she said, "I came back to access Grandpa's library and study room. That's my reason for being here. I will be back tomorrow." With that, she walked toward the door. Mr. Smith was momentarily shocked, but as he processed her words, he snapped and roared, "Stop right there!" Rora, however, didn't bother to look back and left the living room, leaving Mr. Smith fuming and seething with anger. He was shocked by Rora's fearless defiance. "Excuse me," Kelvin said, standing up to follow Rora. Rara, sitting nearby, secretly clenched her fists. She was anxious and angry. The thought that Kelvin, who had once hated Rora, was now actively chasing after her made Rara panic. "Brother, why do you insist on forcing Rora to marry Kelvin? If she doesn't want to, I have a daughter who would be perfect—" "Shut up!" Mr. Smith roared, glaring at his younger brother Daniel with a baleful expression. Daniel clenched his jaws in anger but deflated in defeat, knowing that a single word from Mr. Smith could cost him 70% of his income. "Dad, I'll go talk to Rora. Don't be angry," Rara said, standing up. She was desperate to know what Kelvin was going to say to Rora. Without waiting for her father's acknowledgment, she swiftly exited the living room. She didn't need to search for them; Kelvin's loud calls for Rora made it easy to find them. Quickening her pace, she hid behind a pillar and watched as Kelvin caught up to Rora, who was about to get into her car. Seeing Rora's car, she gasped in shock. She hadn't expected Rora to drive a better car than hers after being away for just a few years. Her frown deepened as she saw Kelvin reach out to grasp Rora's hand. Rora deftly evaded his arm and glared at him coldly. Kelvin shuddered instinctively before realizing he had been intimidated by Rora. Composing himself, he looked at her confidently and asked, "Didn't you hear me calling out to you?" Rora merely raised an eyebrow, giving him a questioning look. Kelvin was momentarily speechless, feeling uncomfortable under her gaze. Her eyes, which used to light up with infatuation whenever she saw him, now held a cold indifference. Taking a deep breath, he said magnanimously, "I'll forgive you for rejecting me in front of Dad and his brother. Don't worry, I won't reject you. I'll accept you as my wife." Rora chuckled, looking at Kelvin as if he were an i***t. "Who said I want to marry you?" Kelvin frowned, thinking Rora was playing hard to get because he had rejected her a few years ago. "Rora, I know you're still angry that I rejected you back then. If you were me, you'd do the same. You were ugly, fat, and unsightly. But now, you're beautiful. We could be a perfect couple." Rora calmly retorted, "What makes you think I would accept you after my sister rejected you?" Kelvin's face turned a deep shade of red. That was a dark part of his past he preferred to forget. He could still vividly remember the day Rara rejected him. Vroom! Vroom! The roar of Rora's car engine snapped him out of his thoughts. Before he could react, Rora had already sped towards the gate. He gave up on the thought of stopping her directly and watched as Rora drove out of the Smith's mansion. Returning to Rebecca's mansion at 10 PM, Housekeeper Anne welcomed Rora back warmly. "Miss Rora, your daughter has already gone to bed. I've prepared your favorite dinner. Would you like it served now, or would you prefer to take a bath first?" Rora pondered for a moment before deciding on a bath. "Where is Aunt Rebecca?" she asked. Housekeeper Anne replied, "She left the mansion a few minutes ago. She won’t be back until tomorrow." Deep in thought, Rora wondered what could be so urgent for Rebecca to leave the mansion, considering she rarely did so unless it was a significant matter. "I'll be in my room," Rora said, heading up the staircase. Meanwhile, Rora's otherworldly-beauty had caused great distress, anxiety, and worry among the entire Smith family. Mr. Smith sat in his study with a gloomy expression, joined by his wife and their daughter Rara, who looked even more troubled. "Dad, we must force Rora to marry Kelvin," Rara said with a sense of urgency.
