Rebecca didn't stop Rora from leaving. She sat there without moving a muscle until a masked man emerged from a nearby tree and walked towards her.
"Should I stop her?" the masked man asked deeply.
Glancing at the masked man, revealing a pair of cold eyes, Rebecca replied thoughtfully, "There's no need. If she doesn't seek them out, it doesn't mean they won't find her. I just hope she doesn't end up like her parents."
The masked man clenched his fists tightly, the veins on the backs of his hands bulging. Seeing his reaction, Rebecca added, "It's not your fault. We couldn't protect them, but this is our chance to prove ourselves by protecting their only daughter."
After a ten-second silence, the masked man said, "I'll send my brothers to watch over her."
Rebecca nodded in acknowledgment.
Unaware of the arrangement, Rora had already walked to the mansion's garage. She chose a red Ferrari, got into the driver's seat, and slowly drove out of the mansion.
Glancing at her phone's screen as it lit up, a notification showed eighty missed calls after it finished beeping.
Rora's lips curled into a smile. She was heading to the Smith family to give them the biggest shock of their lives.
The Smith mansion was bustling with activity, especially in the living room. It was unusually crowded today because Rora was returning after many years. To mark the occasion, Mr. Smith had invited his younger brother Gabriel, along with Gabriel's wife and children, to welcome Rora back home.
Their ill intentions were evident, particularly on Mr. Smith's face, as they waited impatiently. Gabriel, who harbored a deep resentment towards Rora, voiced his frustration, "What is taking her so long? Does she know we're all waiting for her?" He blamed Rora for his failures, believing that his father, Old Smith, favored Mr. Smith after he adopted Rora and left him with nothing.
Mr. Smith's expression turned cold as he glanced at his wife. "Have you called Kelvin?" he asked.
Mrs. Smith, equally displeased, replied softly, "I have. He's on his way back."
Frowning, Mr. Smith muttered gloomily, "Did that ugly girl trick all of us?"
Just then, the entrance door opened, and Rara walked in, looking stunning in her branded outfits. She appeared glamorous and wealthy. Mr. Smith's face lit up with joy, and all his dissatisfaction vanished like smoke.
"Mom, Dad, Uncle Gabriel," Rara greeted them with a smile.
Gabriel's smile widened, revealing all his teeth. He hadn't expected his brother's daughter, who was engaged to the richest and most mysterious billionaire in Aberdeen, to greet him. He felt flattered.
His wife, son, and two daughters also stood up to welcome Rara, all beaming with smiles.
The door opened once again, and Kelvin entered. Because of his frequent visits to the Smith mansion, the butler no longer announced his arrival; he was already considered part of the family.
Seeing Kelvin arrive alone, Mr. Smith's happiness faded, replaced by disappointment. He glanced expectantly at the door, but no one followed behind Kelvin.
"Dad, I didn't see Rora at the airport. She didn't pick up my calls," Kelvin said, slumping into a chair. He had been standing all day at the airport, and his legs ached terribly.
Mr. Smith's eyes darkened. He looked at his wife and said coldly, "Get me my phone."
Before Mrs. Smith could move, Butler Smith entered the living room, his face creased with an indescribable expression, standing dazed and speechless.
This was unusual for the usually eloquent butler.
"Speak! Why are you standing there like an i***t?" Mr. Smith scolded angrily.
Snapping out of his shock, the butler responded with a strange expression, "Master, Miss Rora is here."
Mr. Smith shot him a look of disbelief before grumbling, "Then why are you not bringing her in? Do you want me to do your job for you?"
Realizing he had infuriated Mr. Smith, the butler quickly left to fetch Rora.
The atmosphere shifted drastically from harmonious to tense. Mr. Smith looked at the door with a gloomy expression. Despite everyone else being seated, he remained standing.
Slowly, footsteps approached the door, and it creaked open. The butler stepped aside after opening it, and Rora walked in.
The moment Rora stood before the Smiths, the atmosphere grew even more strained. They couldn't believe the pretty lady standing before them was the same fat little Rora with a scarred face they once knew. No wonder the eloquent butler had been acting so strangely.
Kelvin's reaction was even more intense. The pretty lady he had tried to woo at the airport was actually Rora Smith. He was speechless.
"Are you Rora?" Rara asked in disbelief.
With her lips curled up, Rora retorted lazily, "What do you think?"
Rara stiffened in shock, digging her nails into her palms. Her face turned pale with fright. She had been enjoying the luxury that rightfully belonged to Rora for many years. If Assistant Shan found out about Rora’s return, she would lose everything. The only reason she had been accepted in the first place was because Rora was too unsightly, and Assistant Shan feared presenting her to his boss. Seeing Rora looking prettier than her sent Rara into a panic.
Mr. Smith coughed lightly, ending the awkward situation. Clearing his throat, he said, "Darling, take the kids and my brother's wife to have dinner. We have something important to discuss with Rora."
He waited impatiently as his wife led them away. Ordinarily, Rara should not have been there, but her position as the breadwinner of the Smith family was unshakable.
"Rora, since you are back, it is time for you to fulfill the marriage contract with the Henderson family and marry Kelvin," Mr. Smith said. His tone was forceful and condescending, leaving no room for argument.
Rora had already made herself comfortable since she wasn't offered a seat. She leaned lazily on a chair, showing no intention of responding to Mr. Smith.
Sensing the unfavorable situation, Rara chimed in to smoothen the conversation. "Rora, don't be hasty in rejecting Daddy. He has kept you in his heart for so many years. Despite being away, he convinced Kelvin to wait for you. A perfect man like Kelvin isn't easy to come by..."
"Then marry him yourself," Rora interrupted unhurriedly.
Rara, who was trying to sell Kelvin's merits, choked on her words.
