A drastic turn of events took place in Diana’s life as she accepted Xavier’s contract marriage request, all she wanted was a comfortable life for her family, where her mother wasn’t sick and her sister could go to school and live out all her dreams.

Her life has changed for good and for worse, she could finally afford everything she’d wanted to get for her and her family, but the saying “money can’t buy happiness” had more meaning.

After her and Xavier had grown close and she got pregnant for him, she thought things would get even better but Xavier was against the child, stating it was against the contract. But losing her baby, thanks to Xavier, she knew she had no other reason to be happy in her life.

How would Diana and Xavier’s relationship progress? Is it going to look up? Or is it going to be downhill from there?

Chapter one:Diana
"11pm. I'm outside my house. I'm not usually allowed to and today, I just realized why. I'm running for my life, I look behind me and they're still chasing me. My heart thumping inside my chest, my legs running faster, my mind set on one location. Home. The guards would be outside, I'd be safe. I began to relax at seeing my father's mansion but I was too late. Everything went black as I tried to call for help. I opened my eyes again after what felt like a day I was in a room. No ropes nor chains tied on me, the room was just dark then I hear a creaking sound. Like footsteps, I get up on my feet in defense, then I see a rather shadowy figure coming from a corner then it just stops. It's close enough for me to see that it's a male person, but he's wearing a face mask and all I can see are his eyes and straight hair packed in a ponytail. His eyes seem to widen and when I stare into the eyes I relax. Those eyes. He turns back quickly before I can comprehend on the eyes and I'm left standing there confused, I don't know where to escape from. Under a few seconds I hear 3 gunshots and I fall to the ground for cover, I lay there my hands covering my head, my heart racing, my mind trying to comprehend what was going on. A few moments later the room begins to fill with what looks like smoke and while I'm backing away from it I start to inhale it, it causes me to cough and shortly then I fall unconscious. When I open my eyes again I'm being dragged into a car but I heard a deep masculine voice. "She's the one, but let her go" I open my eyes and they jam with those eyes again. Emerald. They're emerald green. I try to get a closer look but I'm already being pushed into the car and the door is shut. I turn to look at the man but he's gone. "Where are you taking me?" I ask them but they don't answer me. "Where are you taking me?!" I ask again but a gun is pointed to my head instead. "How about you keep but and close your eyes, let's play a game" the man sitting beside me in a mask said. I listened to him and shut my eyes tightly. I felt him take my hand and open my palm then felt something sharp on it. "If you open your eyes I will take my knife deeper into your flesh, deal" he said. I almost started to cry. I felt the car stop at some point and then I was dragged out of the it and thrown to the ground. I heard the car drive away and slowly opened my eyes, my father's mansion wasn't far. I stood up with the intention of running but before I could even take an extra step I heard a gunshot and went unconscious. Did I just die?" I jolted from my daydreams, looking around to see if anyone had noticed. I sigh as I checked the time, taking in the fact that my break was almost over. I put my apron on and went back to the front to take orders. At 1pm I had to be taking orders at a burger joint, and at 7pm I had to be at a hotel, cleaning out rooms and being at peoples service. At 12am I needed to be home, then I needed to be up at 8am to repeat the cycle. I did this every day of every week, except weekends, my little sister, Penelope, insisted I leave my weekends free so I could get some rest sometimes. But those weekends I worked as a freelancer, I didn't get contracts that paid a lot but I was okay with what I got. "Order at table 9" another waitress yelled as she rushed into the kitchen. "On it" I answered her, taking my pen and notepad to the table where a couple sat. "Hello there, what would you both be having?" "I'll have whatever she's having" the guy said as he smiled at whom I had already assumed was his girlfriend as the next thing she said was, "Babe, you don't have to do that everywhere we eat." "I have bad taste in picking food, you can choose for me" the guy said, resting his chin on his hand that was propped up on the table. "Fine, we'll have... the roast beef and rice please" she said as her eyes schemed through the menu. "Al...right, would that be all?" I asked, not because I wanted to but because I was supposed to urge the customers to want to buy more. "We'll have.... just the orange juice with it please" she said. "No the coke, let's have the coke instead" the guy butted in and she smiled sweetly at him before agreeing. "O..kay, I'll bring your order in right away." I said writing it down and walked away. What was my opinion about love? I didn't have time for it, the people who paid attention to love were people who had time on their hands, I didn't, so paying attention to it wasn't on my list of things to do. I went into the kitchen and came back out with the couples order a few minutes later. "I told you they served quick" she bragged. Served quick yes but not cooked quick, most of the meals they sold in this place was made either an hour before we opened or an hour after we opened, they cooked in bulk so food is available the whole day. When a customer orders it's only preheated. "Here" the girl said slipping a $20 bill into my hands before anyone could see. "You're pretty." She complimented as well and I thanked her before walking to another table to take orders. If nothing made me smile that day, hearing that compliment did. What if I became a stripper? People would pay me because I was pretty, oh... but they'd also want to sleep with me. But then what if I became a model instead? I would get paid because I was pretty too, and also to get my picture taken. I crossed by a mirror that very second which I knew was the universe reminding me that I wasn't that pretty. My ash blonde hair was tied into a messy bun, my gray eyes looked dead, they always did but with the work stress these days they looked like the only thing that kept them alive was sleeping. I had bags and dark circles under my eyes because of the sleep I hadn't gotten in days and I was wearing old hand me downs from my mom. Nothing so pretty about it. 12:45pm and I was just about to leave when my boss came in. "Here's your paycheck for the week, Diana" he said in a thick Texas accent, handing me an envelope and I hesitantly took it from him, my pay didn't come until Friday, today was only Tuesday. "But... my pay isn't till Friday," "It's a raise, you've been doing really good here so I decided to pay you twice a week" he says and my heart starts to race from excitement. "Are you serious?" "Yes, but don't tell the others" he says before walking out, leaving me jumping with joy. I scurry out of the restaurant and into a taxi that dropped me at the burger joint I work at. It wasn't so far from the restaurant, it was 20 minutes on foot, and 7 minutes by car (if there wasn't any traffic). I worked there four hours before heading to my final workplace of the day. The hotel. I wasn't entirely possible to work from 8am till 12am the next day, that was 16 hours a day and 80 hours a week, I had breaks in between so it wasn't all that stressful for me because it was just waitressing and cleaning, and most times I wasn't even needed. Walking into the hotel, I checked in at the front and rushed to get into my uniform, which was a black shirt with my name embroidered on it in small caps. D I A N A. I loved this job because there were a lot of other cleaners and janitors here too so before I could get to a job there were already people on it. "I stood staring at my fathers mansion burn to the ground, everything he'd worked for crumbling before my feet as tears streamed down my face like a river. I felt so helpless in that moment, I felt useless, like there was nothing I could do to stop it and that added to my pain and agony. I hated feeling helpless, it irked me more than anything. I heard the muffled laughter of people behind me and I turned to see my whole college class, pointing their fingers at me and laughing at my downfall, saying it was my fault and calling me embarrassing names and that added to my pain. The fear of failure, the fear of people seeing me lose something that wasn't so hard to lose, I felt like my heart was going to explode. I couldn't utter any words anymore, so I fell to my knees and buried my head in my hands and cried." I felt the hand of someone on my shoulder and I jolted back to reality, I was sitting on the floor with my legs pressed to my chest. Daydreaming again, Diana. I scolded myself and I looked up to the person who had their hand on my shoulder. "Are you okay?" A girl asked me, she looked at least 9 years old and I smiled at her. "Yes, I am" "Do you clean here?" She asked and I nodded. "I kinda made a mess over there," she said pointing towards the lounge area and I stood up, carrying my mop and bucket to clean up whatever mess she had made. It was just a little water that had pour on the tiles but I was able to clean it up. "Here" the girl said stretching her hand to me and I saw a few bills in it. "I think it's about $32 dollars," "Why are you giving me this?" "I just had it on me and I wanted to do something nice for someone, my mommy gave it to me and I don't need it" she explained and I took it from her and thanked her. That was a tip of $52 dollars and a raise in my previous paycheck which meant today I had made a sum total of $234. I feel undeniably lucky today. Just before I could go back to cleaning the halls went silent and I turned to see why, my eyes locked with cold blue eyes that sent chills down my spine. The eyes that stared at me looked a little too familiar, not familiar as in I know him on a personal level, but familiar as in I know him from TV. He was Xavier Wilson heir to the X multibillion dollar industry. He was known everywhere and people say when he walks into a room be snatch's souls for as long as he's there and right now I was having a staring battle with this man who stood meters away from me. The sound of something falling and shattering as it hit the ground jolted my attention to behind Xavier Wilson, a cleaner holding some glass plates fell. No shock that it was upon seeing Xavier too.
