He gave her everything—except the truth.

When Grace Porter, a small-town journalist chasing her big break, accepts a marriage proposal from enigmatic billionaire Adrian Kane, she thinks she’s stepping into a fairytale. But behind his glass towers and flawless charm hides a labyrinth of secrets that could destroy them both.

Adrian’s world isn’t built on love—it’s built on contracts, lies, and dangerous obsessions. The deeper Grace is pulled into his empire, the more she realizes she’s not a wife—she’s a pawn.

Haunted by Adrian’s mysterious past and shadowed by a rival who knows too much, Grace must choose: unravel the truth and risk everything, or stay silent and lose herself forever.

A dark, slow-burn romance filled with passion, betrayal, and suspense—perfect for fans of romantic thrillers and billionaire obsession.

CHAPTER 1
Grace Porter had never felt this torn, this split open between instinct and temptation. Her hand hovered over the velvet box as if it radiated heat. The diamond wasn’t just beautiful—it was monstrous. It caught the light in the penthouse like a shard of lightning, daring her to reach for it, daring her to surrender. Her throat tightened. This is insane. She heard her father’s voice in her head—steady, patient, back when he was alive: Never trust what shines too brightly, Gracie. It usually blinds you for a reason. And yet, her landlord’s voice was louder: You have until the end of the month, or you’re out. Adrian Kane watched her without blinking. His silence was heavier than words. “You’re out of your mind,” she whispered finally, though her voice lacked conviction. “Am I?” Adrian stepped closer, slow, deliberate, as though he were approaching a wild animal he didn’t want to spook. “Think about it, Grace. You’ve been clawing at locked doors your whole life. You’ve got talent, but no one gives you the stage. With me, the stage is yours. Instantly. No more begging editors to keep you on staff. No more chasing stories no one reads.” Grace hugged her notebook tighter. “That’s not marriage. That’s a deal.” Adrian’s lips curved faintly. “And isn’t that what marriage is, at its core? A deal between two people?” Her chest constricted. “No. Marriage is love. Trust. Partnership.” His eyes darkened, like a storm cloud had passed over them. “Love fades. Trust breaks. But deals—deals bind.” The room felt colder. Grace’s heart pounded. “You think you can buy me?” she said, her voice shaking. “No,” Adrian replied smoothly. “I think I can offer you what you already want. A chance to matter. A chance to be seen.” He tilted his head slightly, his gaze burning into hers. “And in return, I get something rare.” Grace’s pulse thudded in her throat. “What’s that?” “You,” he said. The word landed heavy, unsettling. Not tender, not pleading. Possessive. Her instincts screamed to run. But another voice whispered in her ear, just as insistent: What if this is the door you’ve been waiting for? Grace moved toward the window, needing space. The city stretched beneath her, dazzling, endless. From up here, everything looked small—streets, people, even her doubts. Maybe Adrian was right. Maybe she had been small all her life. She turned back. “And if I marry you, what happens then? Do I become your trophy?” “No,” Adrian said, his tone sharp, almost offended. “You’ll be my equal.” She laughed bitterly. “Equal? You’ve already made the rules.” “Not rules. Protection.” He took another step closer, lowering his voice. “You don’t know the enemies I’ve made. You don’t know what it costs to keep standing at the top. But if you’re mine, you’ll never fear them. I’ll make sure of that.” Her skin prickled. Something in his words wasn’t reassurance—it was a warning. Grace’s phone buzzed suddenly in her bag, shattering the tension. She fumbled for it, grateful for the distraction. A text from her best friend, Lila, lit the screen: How’s the Kane interview? Still alive? Grace almost laughed, almost cried. “Go ahead,” Adrian said softly. “Tell her. Tell the world I asked. I don’t care who knows.” She looked up sharply. He wasn’t bluffing. “You’re serious,” she whispered. “Deadly.” Silence stretched between them again. The city roared below, muted by glass, as if daring her to decide. Grace’s chest ached. Every rational part of her screamed no. But rationality had never paid her bills. Rationality hadn’t saved her from nights of ramen noodles and secondhand coats. Rationality hadn’t gotten her father back, or stopped her mother from drowning in grief. Maybe irrationality was the only way forward. Her voice shook as she spoke. “If I say yes… what happens?” Adrian’s expression softened—just slightly. “Then your life changes. Instantly. You’ll move in here. You’ll have everything you need. You’ll have me.” Her stomach flipped. “And if I say no?” His jaw flexed. “Then you’ll leave this building, and you’ll never hear from me again.” It sounded merciful. It didn’t feel merciful. Grace’s fingers brushed the edge of the velvet box. The diamond caught her reflection, fractured it into a hundred tiny shards. She saw herself there—small, uncertain, split apart. Her breath trembled. “This is madness.” Adrian leaned closer, his voice low and hypnotic. “It’s destiny.” The word wrapped around her like smoke. Dangerous. Alluring. Her mind screamed Don’t. But her hand closed the box anyway. “Yes,” she heard herself whisper. The air shifted instantly. Adrian’s posture straightened, his gaze sharpened, and for the first time, Grace saw something in his eyes she couldn’t place—satisfaction, yes, but also possession. “You won’t regret this,” he said. Grace wasn’t so sure. He lifted her hand and slid the diamond onto her finger. It fit perfectly, as though he’d measured her without asking. The weight of it anchored her, chained her, sparkled at her like a warning she couldn’t ignore. When she looked up, Adrian’s smile was faint but victorious. “You belong to me now, Grace Porter.” The words should have thrilled her. Instead, they chilled her to the bone.
