Shade walked me to class like he'd been assigned as my personal guard.
As we stepped into the building, Cylan and Hailee joined us at the stairwell. Hailee had her arm linked with his, his baseball cap pulled low over her face. She looked too small next to him, especially in his hoodie, but she moved with that stubborn confidence I recognized from before. Cylan didn't let anyone get near her. Not even by accident.
We paused outside the classroom so they could clear it. I rolled my eyes when two enforcers stepped up behind us after Shade waved them forward. Hailee wasn't used to it. She edged closer to me like she wasn't sure what else to do. The whole thing clearly made her just as uncomfortable as it made me. She looked at my new necklace. "That's pretty. Really pretty, actually."
