Author’s Note: About that Curry… and a Recipe One of the things that has long irked me about the genre is that so many science fiction novels don’t pay any attention to food. There are notable exceptions, of course, such as Lois McMaster Bujold’s bug butter, but mostly, food does not get much of a mention in science fiction. And if there is food, it usually a) is a food pill or protein cube or something along those lines, b) comes out of a replicator or c) is something alien and wriggly that is only there to give the protagonist culture shock. I find this sad, because food is culture and therefore an important aspect of worldbuilding. Not to mention that characters, whether human or not, need to eat.
