Chapter 8: Triple Date (2)
***
After the meal surprisingly… Dante paid for everyone, even though he didn’t want to pay for his sister he didn’t mind doing it for Ciel… Also he didn’t allow Angelica to find out about it and it made it seem like Ciel was the one that covered it at the end…
Ciel being awkward didn’t deny it either… nor did Dante…
‘Was he being kind to win me over?’ Ciel wondered to himself not knowing what was right or wrong anymore. His own heart seemed to be pulling him back to back in the day when they used to date each other.
“Let’s take a walk through the park to digest our food! It was a nice meal but the place was stuffy, don’t you think?” Angelica suggested, her unusually boisterous attitude was the only thing that kept this unusual group from going completely silent, it just seemed like she was capable of lifting up room just by being in it. Her charm evident in her effortless way of moving around and speaking.
“Yeah, I thought so as well.” Ciel nodded along. “It was a bit stuffy…” He remarked in a smaller voice, it was a bit strange. He felt like Angelica could read his mind.
“Then why did you chose the place?” Angelica curiously asked while tilting her head to the side.
“Because I thought you’d like it.” Ciel bashfully admitted. He felt a bit embarrassed having said that.
“Really? Do I look that fancy? That’s so cute.” Angelica jumped up from joy, knowing that the person she liked thought that of her, she found it amusing.
“Yeah, he doesn’t know you’re actually a witch that would devour anything fast food.” Dante chimed in with his usually careless demeanor sounding just a bit more daunting at that moment.
Angelica exclaimed. “Not true! Not anything! I have never managed to devour that five tier burger you know? And God knows I’ve tried…” The expression on Angelica’s face was far from angelic… in a sense she looked like a demon possessed when speaking about that burger. I wondered what a five tier one would look like. “Anyways! Let’s focus on you cutie boy! Tell me what do you do for fun?”
“Well… not much… I work at a part time place still, since I’m doing my Master’s degree at the moment.” Ciel explained while they walked through a forest path that had many light up lamps along their course, it was a beautiful sight and far into the distance they could hear a faint sound of someone playing a guitar.
It wasn’t unusual for street performers to be out at this time of day.
“Wow! You’re such a good student! Our boy here didn’t go to University.” Angelica remarked while patting her brother’s shoulder. “He thought it was better to skip it and start working right away, isn’t it weird?” She asked.
“Really?” Ciel glanced at Dante. Of course he never thought of him as particularly fond of studying, however he knew the man had excellent grades back in the day. Maybe it was because he used to get things easily unlike Ciel who struggled a lot and even now takes much longer to get used to the new material.
“My father wanted me to hurry up and start working at his company, so I did as he wished.” Dante explained, while he spoke it seemed like he never paid attention to anything his sister did. It felt as if it was just him and Ciel by themselves.
“See, he’s a really goody two shoes when it comes to our parents. It’s so surprising especially because he looks so scary!” Angelica continued to speak with such effortless eloquence. She didn’t seem to mind airing out their family secrets out in the open for Ciel to observe.
“I don’t look scary…” Dante denied the accusation as he glanced at a nearby reflective surface, it was a small store front at the end of the park they were walking through. They were now back at the main street.
“Of course you do! Even Ciel here has moments where he just seems terrified of you, you know?” Angelica who seemed to have masterfully observed him remarked.
“Is that true?” Dante turned towards Ciel who once again had a conflicted expression, unsure of what to reply.
“Well… your relaxed expression does look a bit mean…” Ciel said while looking away. Averting his eyes was the only way for him to remain calm in the other’s presence.
“Really…?” Dante looked like a large dog breed who’d just had it’s favorite toy stolen away. He looked saddened and unsettled but also unable to get angry either.
Ciel was quick to panic as was usual for him. “Oh, but it’s not like there’s anything wrong with it you know? I just think that… it’s well you know… um… it’s your charm I guess?” He managed to speak and hopefully get himself out of his current predicament.
Angelica didn’t miss this opportunity as she teased him wholeheartedly. “Hmm?? So you do think my brother is charming? What a shame and here I thought he was the third wheel on our date but it seems like it’s me.” She sighed heavily as if she was being a great bother to the two of them.
Dante pulled Ciel in for a hug, his hand over the man’s shoulders. The situation looked like a large bear hugging a scared rabbit. “If you realize it, then leave.” Dante remarked making his hand in a ‘shoo, go away’ type of gesture.
“No, Angelica you’re not the third wheel! You’re gorgeous! Beautiful, absolutely breath taking to the point I fell in love with you the moment I saw you and you gave me that scarf!” Ciel blurted out as he released himself from the man’s embrace.
Ciel’s face flushed a bright color of red the moment he realized the words he’d just said out loud. He almost couldn’t believe himself. He hadn’t even drank that night and yet he ended up confessing so brazenly!
Angelica looked pleased. “Wow, you’re a real smooth talker you know that?” She asked while grasping the man’s arm and intertwining her own, hugging him closely.
“I… I’m sorry if it came off wrong, I just…” Ciel hesitated, the woman he liked being so close to him made him feel odd.
“No, it came off perfect actually! I like straightforward guys for real!” Angelica’s careless mannerisms made her incredibly easy to be with.
“I’m glad… since I felt like I really messed up and…” Ciel paused while turning towards Dante who had a sulking expression. ‘Oh… I didn’t mess up with her but with him!??’ He thought to himself, dreading his entire existence. Dante was the type of man that with a single look could send someone to the hospital, metaphorically and literally… as there was once a time where one of their classmates had gotten a small panic attack when he met eyes with Dante… but that was a story for another time…
