Wilona's POV I ran through the field of wet green grass, feeling the wind blowing on my thick dark grey fur as I raced to the only place in our pack that calmed my deeper senses. I leapt into the air and fell with a plop onto the water, feeling the coldness through my fur, and howled with excitement. Closing my eyes, I shifted to my human form. I lowered myself into the water, skimmed my hands across the surface while floating on my back, and gazed at the clear blue sky. I listened to the sound of the water falling into the pool. The smell of the muddy riverbank entered my nostrils, overwhelming me with joy. It felt so good that it became the only thing I wanted to do for eternity. I can’t help but think when I take over the pack, this should be part of our tradition, where we have a picnic to ensure everyone appreciates the little things life has to offer such as this. A piercing light hit my eyes, and I thrashed about in the water, flapping my arms to find my balance from the distraction. My instincts immediately kicked in, warning me to hold my breath, but the problem was, I was eminently drowning. I kicked relentlessly, but the heaviness kept pulling me further under the water. But I knew I could not let myself die out here alone. I had to find my inner courage to fight hard with everything I had in me and paddled out of the water. My adrenalin pumped so high and I could literally hear my heartbeat in my ears. ‘Panicking can only send you to a watery grave.’ Aiyana whimpered in my mind. I coughed and gasped for air while my body tried to expel the water from my lungs. I laughed and fell on my back on the grass when what had just happened finally registered to me. ‘Maybe I should have listened when the teachers told us not to swim alone.’ My wolf sniggered. ‘What was that light?’ She asked. I lifted my head and looked at the far side of the waterfall, where I saw the strange light. ‘We are at the nearest border of Ethaweth and who knows what those witches are up to.’ I shrugged my shoulders. The light gleamed again. I stood up quickly and walked towards it. ‘I do not feel right about this. Are you not going to mind-link your father first?’ Aiyana questioned, wagging her tail. There was a thick line of trees reaching the far side of the waterfall. I quickly started walking towards the light with a great deal of curiosity. As I walked further, the faint sound of the flowing water made me realise I was getting closer to the Ethaweth border. ‘I cannot alarm him without finding out what it was. Besides, it is in our territory, after all.’ I said as I continued to walk. I stopped when I felt the cool breeze crawl over my skin and caused goosebumps all over my body. The only thing I was seeing was my reflection made by the high-pitched glow behind me. I was about to spin myself around. “Do not turn around unless you want to be blinded.” The soft voice spoke, catching me completely off guard. Her melodic voice made me feel safe and calm. I stiffened, an overwhelming feeling wrapped around me, and my palms sweated. “Who are you?” “That is not important, a late bloomer, I see.” She chuckled to herself, leaving me puzzled why it amused her. “What do you want?” I asked as I felt this was getting stranger by the minute. “I only came here to warn you.” My heart was beating fast, and all I wanted to do was turn to face her when the unknown played havoc in my mind. “Warning me about what, exactly? And how do I trust you when you do not allow me to look at you?” I asked as I felt my wolf pacing in my head. I was confused and so many questions raced through my head like a hurricane. “Don’t despair when your life takes a negative turn.” She uttered and I could not help but wonder what it was she may have meant by that? The walk to Zara's house took longer than I expected from the waterfall. I puzzled over the warning same as Aiyana had. ‘I am asking myself the same question.’ Aiyana chimed in. ‘Maybe it is just some witch playing games on me.’ I knocked on the door. Zara opened it while grinning at me until she saw what I was wearing. She frowned, crossing her arms over her chest. “You were supposed to come with us. What happened?” She asked while she let me inside. “Can we not talk about it?” I replied as she glared at me and I fluttered, walking to the sofa. We met at kindergarten when we were still children and since then our friendship has blossomed. I honestly believed I would have been lost without her. “Okay,” she said while sitting next to me. She held my hand and rubbed it, absently, humming a song. Making me close my eyes. It was almost lunchtime when Jude limped into the room and threw himself on the sofa with a groan. “Who did you fight this time?” Zara pouted her lips. He chuckled and propped himself in an upright position. “Our soon-to-be alpha this morning.” He blurted out as he looked at me. Zara widened her eyes, staring at me. “That's the reason you went to the waterfall all by yourself, isn’t it? You fücking injured, my brother.” She retorted as she flared her nose at me. I stood up from the sofa, shaking my head from side to side. “When I told you I did not want to talk about it, I meant it.” I said sternly, wanting to end the conversation. I had almost spoken about something I chose to keep to myself. “You know what? I hope you enjoy your outing.” I huffed and walked out of the door, leaving her with her mouth hanging low. And went home. ‘You are upset and taking it out on the wrong person.’ Aiyana whined. ‘She knows all too well what happens at the training and her brother knew what he was signing up for.’ I replied as I stormed through the kitchen door and went straight to my room. Mom knocked and then walked in. “Do you want to talk about what made you hide away in your room?” She asked as she took off her shoes, then sat beside me. I sighed and rolled on my side to face her. “Something happened at the waterfall and now I need some time to process it.” I told her. She nodded in understanding. I gazed at the ceiling, thinking about what that strange woman meant when she said I should embrace what was coming. ‘Wilona, come to my office, now!’ Dad growled in my head. “I will be in dad’s office if you need me.” I informed her, then jumped out of bed and ran towards his office.
