I looked down at our intertwined hands, feeling a deep ache in my chest as I saw how vulnerable Damon was. He had always been strong and in control, but now he seemed hurt, and it broke my heart into pieces.
Damon held onto my hand, fear evident in his voice. "I don't know what's ahead of me, Ava. Whatever's coming might completely consume me, and I'm scared.
