The Chase Is On

My breath quickens as I take in what’s happening around me. Abbi pushes the stroller through the door so we are outside. I feel a little light headed as we stare at each other.

“Oh this is so exciting! Marie this must be why your wolf woke up!”

“What do you mean woke up? Surely she knew she was a shifter?” Talon asks with a rumble in his chest.

“No actually I didn’t. I was adopted. My parents were murdered. Or so my wolf told me last night.” He seems to be thinking over his next question carefully as he glances at the twins.

“These are my children. Eli and Ellie.” I say instead of making him ask the question.

“Well I knew they were yours. But where is their father?” He growls.

“Their father is a long story and I don’t know you. Why should I have to explain myself?”

There is a rumbling sound coming from his chest. It makes me tingle between my legs. My n*****s pebble under my bra. Goosebumps break out down my arms and legs. My panties dampen with my arousal. His nostrils flare and he grins. I blush with embarrassment. He apparently can smell my arousal. Not good Marie not good!

“Little mate it seems I arouse you.” He steps closer to me. I step back and realize my back is touching the brick building of Quirky Books. He barricades me in with his arms on either side of my shoulders. He brings his face down so it is by my neck and inhales. His chest rumbles.

“Talon you can work stuff out with Marie when we get to the house. She is following us.”

“Drive your car. I’ll take Marie in hers.”

“Suit yourself bro.”

Abbi strolls to her car as Talon starts pushing the stroller. When I open the door to my van he c***s his eyebrow.

“A minivan? Aren’t your a little young to be driving that?”

“I have twins. I don’t know if more will be in my future and I wanted enough room. So yes, I drive a minivan.” I snap at him. His eyes light up with amusement at first. Then I guess he thinks about the rest of what I said about more children. His eyes take over me possessively.

“Little mate if you wish for more children we can make that happen right now.”

I roll my eyes before putting Eli in his seat and strapping him in. I go to get Ellie and realize Talon has her in his strong arms. He places her in her seat carefully then straps her in. I see him sniff her and grin. He notices me watching him and smiles. He folds down the stroller and places it in the trunk. With his back to me I glance down at his rear. Light wash wrangler jeans hang low on his hips. I can tell he has a great ass and powerful legs. I feel my body flush thinking of him without clothes. He turns and catches me looking at his ass and winks.

“Don’t worry mate. I am all yours. Now where’s your keys? I’m driving.”

I roll my eyes and hand him the keys. Before I can take my hand back he pulls me to him. I’m flush against his body. My breasts and pressed between us and I feel his arousal against my stomach. He brings his head down to my ear.

“Roll your eyes again mate and I will put you over my knee.” He whispers in my ear huskily. He steps back and opens the passenger door. It feels like I swallowed my tongue. My heart is racing like it’s trying to get out of my chest. The things this man has made me feel in a span of five minutes is mind boggling.

I climb into the seat and he shuts the door. He walks around and climbs into the driver seat. Once he adjusts the seat and mirrors to his liking we take off. It doesn’t take us very long to get to his parents house. But when we get there I am stunned.

Their house looks more like a mansion then anything. We are in the middle of no where with nothing but trees surrounding us. There is a big clearing where their house sits and I notice other houses as well on the property. It kind of reminds me of Little House On The Prairie. Except it is all gated in. He had to put in a code in order for the gates to open.

We pull up out front and I get out. I grab the diaper bag and Eli out of his seat. Before I can go around to get Ellie I see Talon has her. I place Eli in the wrap since I never took it off and wait for Talon to come around. He grabs my hand with his and leads me into the house. The house on the outside is white with blue shutter. It has a wrap around porch with multiple seating sections in white wicker. It feels so inviting and warm. I simply love it.

The inside is even better though. With light brown painted walls and high ceilings. Dark hard wood floors and lots of windows for natural lighting. This place is simply marvelous! We hear voices coming from the back. Talon leads the way as we pass the living room and formal dining room. I see many people looking at me with curious stares. It’s unnerving. We stop in the kitchen where I see Abbi sitting at the table with Marcus and Joanna.

“Oh dear it’s great to see you again! And look at these precious babies!” Joanna says excitedly while picking up Eli from the wrap.

“It’s great to see you too Joanna. How are you?” I ask as I watch her fuss over my son.

“Oh lovely dear. After all my sons are home. And we are having a pack barbecue tonight! Everyone should be here shortly.” She says animatedly.

“Mom we know why Marie’s wolf woke up suddenly.” Abbi tells her mom.

“Why”

“Because Marie is my mate.” Talon says proudly. He holds Ellie close to his chest with one arm. With the other he pulls me to him by my waist.

“Oh that is exciting news! Now the babies won’t have to grow up without a father!”

“What do you mean grow up without a father? Marie hasn’t told me much of anything yet.”

I look back and forth between Joanna and Talon as they talk. How can parenting babies be thrown on someone like this. These are my children and I take care of them. I have enjoyed having them to myself so far. I don’t want to share them with anyone.

But our mate looks so sexy holding our daughter right now. I just wanna rub up against him.

I lose control of my body as my wolf takes over and does just that. She turns towards Talon and rubs my body against him. He snaps his face to mine and I see his eyes glowing amber. I know mine are the same as I feel them shift color.

“Careful there little mate. There are innocent eyes around.” He says with an amused smile on his face. I push my wolf down and feel my face heat with a blush.

“I’m so sorry. Sometimes I can’t control her and she just controls me.” Everyone looks at me shocked. Talon looks concerned as he looks into my eyes.

“Maybe it’s because she has been doormat for so long?” Abbi says as though explaining why she took control.

“Maybe but I wonder who her parents were.”

“I don’t know who my parents are. All I know is that my wolf told me they were killed by rogues.”

“Maybe your parents were the Alpha and Luna of your pack?”

“That makes sense. Her wolf is strong. I could sense her before she made herself known.” Abbi says while looking at her mother. She seems overall pleased with the turn of events.

“But back to this whole mate business. Who says I want a mate? I have been doing just fine with the twins without help from a man.” I say a little bitterly. Adam was supposed to be here to be a father to our kids. He was supposed to teach our son about sports and be a protective dad over our daughter dating. I feel my eyes full with tears.

“Oh sweetie I didn’t mean it like that. You have been doing amazing. And I know he wasn’t the best through a lot of your pregnancy. But Adam would be very proud of how well you have been handling things. He seen me in the hall before he went into the hospital garage. He told me to make sure you and the kids were in a pack if anything happened to him. He really cared. I think he knew Yazmin showed up.” Abbi says as she gets up from her seat at the kitchen table to hug me. I feel my face get wet with tears. I know we had a bad relationship and I don’t mind raising our kids on my own. But he was supposed to be here.

“I don’t think she ever really had time to grieve.” His mom says looking at me sadly. Abbi comes over and takes Ellie from Talon. He wraps his strong arms around me while I cry. His embrace is warm and comforting as I try to pull myself together. I take deep breaths and take in Talons scent. My wolf sighs happily at the smell and feel of our mate.

“I’m okay I promise.” I say as I wipe my eyes.

“Doesn’t seem like your okay. I think we need to talk about this.” He says while his hands tilt my head back to look at him. He leads me out of the kitchen and up the stairs. Once we reach the second level he pulls out a set of keys and opens a door down a long hallway. It leads to another set of stairs and at the top I see four doors. He pulls me to the first door and after unlocking it he pulls me inside. I’m overwhelmed with his scent when I step into the room.

It’s open and bright. First thing I realize is it isn’t just a bedroom. It’s a suite. He has a small living room with a couch and love seat in black leather. A small tv stand with a tv mounted to the wall. Off to the side is a small kitchenette. It is kind of like my room at Aunt Jennas place.

I notice Talon is watching me from the door way. He looks at me at though I am his next meal. He clears his throat and looks away before closing the door.

“This pull is part of finding our mate. It’s taking everything I have in me not to claim you right now. I know you aren’t ready. So I won’t push you. Tell me about Adam.” He sits on the couch and pats the spot next to him.

“There’s not much to tell. We were together for a few months. I had s*x with him one time. It was my first time. After he said it was part of a bet with his friends. He got back together with his on and off girlfriend Yazmin. Not long later I found out I was pregnant. He said he wanted no part of the pregnancy and wanted me to get rid of it. Yazmin found out and threatened me to get rid of the pregnancy. Turns out Adam was trying to keep me safe from Yazmin all along. He knew I wouldn’t give our babies up. He knew I would go stay with my aunt somehow. I updated him on the pregnancy and he showed up at the hospital when they were born. But Yazmin did as well and she tried killing me. Only he got in the way and he died instead.” By the time I finish telling him the tale my eyes are leaking tears. He listens intently and holds my hands. It’s comforting.

“Thank you for telling me. I am sorry you lost him the way you did. However the thought of another man touching you makes me infuriated. My wolf is very possessive of you. We are glad to have found you at last. And we feel protective and possessive of the pups. They are ours.”

“Talon this is too much right now. Plus the twins fathers family is very much in their lives. I know your mom already doesn’t like them for whatever reason. The twins have a whole other family.” I try to reason with him.

“So what? That doesn’t mean I can’t think of them as mine. That doesn’t mean my family can’t love them like they are mine. I’m not going to force the mating on you. But know that this is where you will be. In my rooms. With the twins. We can make this work.” He looks so sure and it sounds so good. I wish things were that simple.

“I’m not ready to move in with you. I live with my aunt about thirty minutes from here. I won’t just leave her. I work for her and she has done so much for me.”

“Does she know your a shifter?”

“No. I was adopted. My family knows nothing.”

“Okay we can take this slow. But my wolf isn’t happy about you not having our mark or scent.”

Oh just listen to our mate. Let him mark us!

“My wolf wants you to mark us. What does that mean?”

“It means that she wants my bite. She wants me to claim you. My wolf is very happy to hear this as well. I think it would do good for our wolves to meet before we go any further.”

“What do you mean?”

“Let’s go outback and shift into our wolves.” He says simply while standing.

“Does that hurt? I’ve never shifted.” I say warily. The thought of changing forms is exciting and terrifying. He smiles as he pulls me up by my hand.

“It is uncomfortable at first but it doesn’t really hurt. Come on you will see.” We head downstairs and through the kitchen and see everyone still at the table.

“I’m taking Marie to shift out back.” He tells his family as we pass. Joanna and Abbi follow us out the sliding back door into the back yard.

Talon starts taking his clothes off and I blush. He looks at me and winks with a grin. He explains we have to take our clothes off in order to change so we don’t ruin them. I tell him he isn’t going to see me naked this fast which he finds hilarious.

“Talon I have no idea how to change into my wolf.” I say with a thought. How does this happen?

“I have an idea but you need to trust me okay?” I nod my head. The air around Talon shivers for a moment. Then it is over. One minute he is a man next minute he is a wolf. His wolf is beautiful. Black fur with silver markings on his snout and tail. He sits back on his haunches and looks at me for a moment. When he stands his head comes to my shoulders. He is big and beautiful.

“Your beautiful.” I say as I rub him by his ears. He seems to enjoy my touch. He pushed my hand with his snout and c***s his head to the side.

“You need to undress Marie.” I hear Abbi say. I quickly take my clothes off and wait. Talon throws his head back and howls loudly. I feel my wolf come forward.

Mate wants me! Mate wants to play!

I feel tingles all over my body. It is like being tazed on the lowest setting. It isn’t painful but it is uncomfortable. I take a breath and let my wolf come forward more. I close my eyes for a moment when I feel my body changing. And when I open them everything looks different. Almost brighter and more clear.

Marie can you hear me?

How can I hear you in my hear Talon?

We are mates. That’s how you can hear me and I can hear you.

He comes over and sniffs me around my neck and shoulders making me shiver. Then an idea pops into my head.

I take off towards the woods while his family cheers from the porch. The chase is on!
