I get into bed and under the covers and just look up at the sky watching the stars flicker, I loved star gazing my dad always showed me whenever your lost at night look for the brightest star it'll always lead you home. The brightest star is always the north star it is how old timers used to navigate around during the night. As I watch the stars flicker, my phone vibrates I pick it up and it's a text from Cas,
C - Hey, just got back to my hotel, thought I'd let you know, I really enjoyed tonight.
Z - Hey thanks again for tonight it was lovely, and thanks for letting me know your safe
C - Your very welcome! You know it's getting late you should really be going to sleep
Z - So should you, I'm just watching the stars.
C - Haha, nice the sky is beautiful tonight but not as beautiful as you though, I'll let you get some sleep
Z - Good night handsome ?
I turned my phone onto do not disturb mode and let out a big yawn and snuggled further in the covers, and watched the stars intently and my eyes start feeling more and more heavy and I succumb to the darkness.
------------------------------------------------------
The next morning the light of the sun flickers through the tree tops, and the smell of bacon reaches my nose I know it's morning. I get up out of my bed, get washed and dressed and head down to my uncles kitchen, I see him standing over the stove with a little apron on and it's hard not to giggle at him
"Morning Uncle! Nice apron" I giggle
"Morning Zara, oh this old thing actually used to be your dad's!" He says with a wink, I look at the apron closer and now remember my mom has one similar, and my dad does sometimes like to join my mom with cooking and she always gets him to wear an apron. I just laugh, my dad must've left it here and told my mom he lost it.
"You know my mom has the same one, and has even replaced that for dad"
"Of course she has, she saw through him, she knows it's here and not lost like your father told her"
"Oh really? Dad told her that it got lost in the move?"
"Ha your dad was never good at lying, I had told your mom before they left that he had hidden it in a cabinet"
"Oh dear, that's why my mum's bought them matching aprons"
I take a seat at the breakfast table, jumping up on the stool. Waiting for my Uncle to finish and dish up our breakfast, as he slides a glass of fresh orange juice over to me, I take a sip and the bittersweet taste hits me and I lick my lips. Then he comes around and plants down the two plates and I slowly start digging in to the first real breakfast in a while, crunching on the bacon I hear my phone vibrating, I get it out of my pocket and check it and see Cas is calling me, I excuse myself and answer the phone.
- Hello?
- Morning gorgeous, did you sleep well?
- Yes I did actually, how about you?
- Of course, what's your plans today?
- Ermm not sure to be honest, I might go into the village and explore a little bit
- Do you mind if you have company?
- Yeah that's fine with me, can you come to my Uncles?
- Of course, I'll be over shortly see you soon beautiful!
- Okay see you soon handsome.
I put the phone down and I blush hard, feeling the heat rise to my cheeks I quickly look in the mirror before heading back downstairs. I straighten myself out and head back downstairs and start eating my breakfast again,
"Who was that?" My uncle says raising a brow at me,
"Oh it was Cas, he wanted to know what I was doing today and if he could join me, he should be here soon is that okay Unc?"
"Yeah that's fine just be careful Zara, and remember about the amulet"
"Of course Uncle, let me wash up as you cooked" I glided over to the sink and started to fill the sink up with water and soap and scrub the plates and glasses. I put them on the side for my Uncle to dry, then at the corner of my eye I see Cas standing in the doorway, he nods at my Uncle as he comes over and wraps his arms around my waist turning me into him and I place my hand on his chest, forgetting I haven't dried my hands and I watch the soap splash up on his face and some bubbles end up on the top of his nose, I giggle. He laughs along with me, he grabs the towel and wipes himself down before handing me the towel to dry my hands off.
"Ready?" He says,
"Yeah lemme just grab my bag" I head upstairs to grab my bag.
Uncle Felix POV
"Hello young man!"
"Hey Felix"
"Right Cas, I need to have a word with you I best make this quick while my niece is upstairs, right I will allow you to have half of the land but the land around that mountain I would like to keep if that's okay with you?"
"Yes of course sir, I'll have my assistant write something up for you, is there anything else?"
"Yes there is actually, my niece, I see the way she looks at you and the way you are with her, I'd like to give you the fatherly talk but that's not up to me, so I'll just give you the Uncle talk, let's just say even though I'm miles away from my family my niece is precious, she is still young, I would like you to take it easy with her she has alot to learn"
"Of course sir, I would never do anything to hurt her in anyway, I will promise to look after her always."
I hear Zara coming down the stairs and I turn to look at her, she does look so much like her mother. I'm just in awe of my niece, in just a short time she's got to me, and she's saved me from a life of loneliness, that reminds me I better phone Julietta and let her know.
