Time seemed to fly by, literally.
I woke up to my dismay, with my head resting on the man that helped me out at the beginning of the flights shoulder.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to rest my head on you" I said feeling so embarrassed!
"That's quite alright, I didn't mind, it felt nice as much as it sounds very weird to say"
"Oh really? How did it feel nice?" Raising my eyebrow at him,
"It made me feel relaxed, I've been stressing over this meeting for days and when your head rested on me it just made me relax a little" he scratched the back of his head and shrugged.
"I'm Zara by the way, seeing as you've been so helpful to me, and I've been helpful for you in weird as it is ways" I laughed as I said the ending.
"I'm Caspian but people call me Cas" he pulled out his hand for me to shake and we shook on it.
"So what's your meeting about?" I asked Cas.
"Oh nothing special, just about buying land, what's your business here? If you don't mind me asking?"
"My parents lived in Guyana before they had me, I've always wanted to go as they told me it's so beautiful and they left their family here so I'm hoping I can find them" it felt weird opening up like that to this once strange man but we've helped eachother in our own little ways so it somewhat felt right.
"Hello, this is your Captain speaking, we are now approaching the landing strip, please put your seatbelts on, trays up and seats in the upright position, current time in Georgetown is 3:06pm, and thank you for flying with us today"
Cas grabbed my hand as we descended down, it helped soothe my nerves alot. How can such a small gesture mean so much? I shook my head as we kept dropping down, hoping it'll be the last, until BUMP we hit the ground, and once we was slowing down everyone cheered and clapped and I joined in not knowing what was going on, after the clapping Cas whispered in my ear
"Everyone claps once the plane is landed it's like a sign of thanks to the pilot seeing as he's stuck in the cockpit" he smiled and I just smiled back.
"Thanks again for your help, and I hope the meeting goes your way!" I said wishing him good luck. He nodded and smiled, the first time I had properly looked at him, he looked very handsome and abit young I would say he had to be around 25, he had thick black hair, and sparkling grey eyes, he definitely looked really stressed out about the meeting he had, but my smile had hopefully cheered him up.
I headed straight off the plane, walking through the somewhat busy airport, the heat is what struck me first, it was humid more humid than what I'm used to anyways but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I get out my phone to send my parents and friends a quick text to let them know I landed safely.
Heading out to where there was a taxi rank, I called on one of the taxi drivers and gave them the piece of paper my dad gave me it had an address of what is hoped to be my aunties house. The drive was long, and drooling as sweat dripped down my face the saltiness in my mouth as I couldn't keep up with tapping my forehead with my sleeve. We finally arrive, I pay the man and give him a little extra too. Which he was grateful for as he gave me a kind smile.
I walk up the path, surrounded by mountains, and trees. I take the steps towards to house, it was bigger than what I've seen going through the towns and clearly on the outskirts of somewhere, the door was big, white with glass panes and a golden knocker. I tapped on the knocker 3 times, it felt like I had waited a while and thought about knocking again but as I went to go towards the knocker someone opened the door.
The lady's face dropped, and she embraced me in a biggest hug, she looked exactly like my dad if he wore a wig! The resemblance was uncanny!
"Hello dear! It's been quite some time! I'm your Auntie Julietta, your dad tells me everything!" I thought that's abit strange they've never spoken about her before?
"Hi I'm Zara" my auntie just nodded and guided me inside and quickly shut the door. She kindly asked me to head outside through the double doors that opened up to give you the indoor/outdoor living.
"Hey Auntie Julietta, I hear my dad speaks to you, he's never spoken about anyone from here? He gave me this address before I left and he hoped you was still here"
Her face looked abit saddened from me telling her that I don't really know who she is,
"Oh I'm so sorry dear! Your father was one to keep secrets! But I must say you are most beautiful girl I have ever seen! You definitely take after your mother with your looks" I smiled politely, everyone I know always said that but I never really saw it.
"Ice tea? It's fresh?"
"Yes please" I replied, hoping it'll somewhat cool me down. My Auntie poured me a glass of definitely fresh ice tea, it still had the water droplets from where the ice was melting fast in the heat, I picked up the glass and took a sip. The taste and smell of peaches overwhelmed my senses, I licked my lips and smiled.
"So how was your flight dear?"
"It was abit scary, it's my first time flying and on my own made it abit more overwhelming, but I met some guy on the plane, he saw me clenching down on the seat and he soothed me, and I may have fallen asleep and slumped myself on him" I said as I put my hands up to my mouth feeling even more embarrassed than I was to Cas.
"Oh that was very kind of him! I'm glad he helped you, now dear would you like to stay here for a couple of days? I'm sure you wanna find our brother after coming here?"
"Yes please, yeah I was going to go to his my dad wrote both your addresses down and I thought I'd go to the first one he wrote down, then go to the second and then I was going to go up in the mountains and do some hiking and camping"
"Dear you sound just like your father, he loved to be under the stars! I still can't get over the fact your here! Tell me everything that's been going on" she smiled nicely.
I told her all about how we moved around abit but have settled in Mountain Lakes, that I have 2 best friend's that are heading off to college, and that I couldn't decide on what college to go to. I told her my passion for History, and all about the book I brought. I showed her the amulet, her eyes glanced down and her face went pale, like she had seen a ghost, with a shocked look on her face.
"Oh dear, there's a reason why your so drawn to this page.." she steered off before I snapped in front of her making her return back to reality.
"You see this amulet, it belongs to our family, it's been in our family for a very long time, longer than this book makes it out to be. Our ancestors buried it in the mountains to stop the fighting and it did, each generation has passed down the location of the amulet to make sure it stays in our family and stays hidden from others. We don't want it in the wrong hands, it holds alot more than the book explains, not only does it control the elements, it can also be used to control people to do whatever you wish, our family has never used it to that extent ever. It wasn't until someone else had the amulet we learnt of that power."
The sun had set and darkness was all around us, the stars looking like glitter across the navy blue sky and the moon shining so brightly. My eyes looking shocked at the revelation my auntie has just told me.
"Now dear, it only does the mind controlling if you ask of it, if you don't ask you don't get it."
I felt exhausted, a yawn escaping from my mouth, my auntie saw and slowly got up out of the plastic chairs we had been sitting in, and guiding me to her guest room, it looked similar to my own bedroom. I thanked my auntie for her hospitality, and said good night. I took a quick shower scrubbing the sweat off me, and got into some fresh underwear and pulled on a loose t-shirt, I sat under the covers and grabbed my phone to text my parents that I made it to Auntie Juliettas house and how kind she is letting me stay for a couple of days. I laid back in the bed with my head on the soft pillow, thinking about everything my auntie has told me is alot more than what my dad has told me in all these years.
