On the night of her twenty-first birthday, Mira expected to celebrate her official marking with the Alpha she loved since childhood.

Instead, she was stolen away — dragged into the territory of Kael, the most feared Alpha in the Northern Territories.

Kael claims she is his fated mate.

Mira calls him a liar.

Bound by his command and trapped within his pack, Mira vows to escape. But every time she looks into Kael’s storm-grey eyes, her heart betrays her resolve.

When war brews between her true mate’s pack and Kael’s, she’s forced to choose:

Loyalty to her blood… or surrender to the bond that burns in her soul.

Chapter One – Taken
The moonlight shattered on the forest floor as Mira ran, her bare feet slicing against roots and stones. The silk of her marking dress, once white and pure, now clung to her skin in muddy tatters. She didn’t dare look back. The drums of the marking ceremony still pounded faintly in her ears, but they were drowned by the sound of pursuit — heavy, deliberate footfalls that refused to fall away no matter how fast she fled. Her lungs burned. Her wolf howled inside her, urging her to fight, to shift. But the ceremonial herbs they had burned during the ritual still lingered in her bloodstream, dulling her strength. A shadow lunged from the trees. She barely had time to scream before a hand clamped over her mouth, pulling her backwards into a wall of muscle. Her back hit a chest as hard as stone. She kicked, clawed, bit — but the stranger didn’t flinch. His scent hit her like a punch: smoky, wild, threaded with something electric that made her stomach twist. “Stop fighting, little wolf,” a voice growled in her ear — deep, rich, and terrifyingly calm. “You’ll only tire yourself before we get home.” She froze. Home? The man turned her in his grip. The moment their eyes met, her breath caught. Storm-grey irises locked on hers, sharp and unyielding, but in that instant, something inside her trembled — as though her very soul recognized him. The mate bond. “No,” she whispered, shaking her head. “You’re not— you can’t be—” “I am.” His lips curled into something between a smirk and a snarl. “Kael. Alpha of the Black Ridge Pack. And you, Mira of the Silverfangs… are mine.” Her wolf jolted at the sound of his voice, clawing at the inside of her chest, desperate to close the distance between them. She bit down hard on the instinct. “You’re insane,” she spat. “I already have a mate—” “Lucian?” Kael’s voice was pure mockery. “The pretty little heir they were about to chain you to? He isn’t your fated mate. I am. And I’m done waiting.” Before she could answer, he slung her over his shoulder like she weighed nothing. The world spun, branches whipping past as he strode into the forest’s dark heart. “Put me down!” she screamed, pounding at his back. “My pack will kill you!” “Let them try,” he said without breaking stride. “They’d have to find you first.” Hours blurred into a haze of cold night air and the steady thud of his footsteps. By the time he stopped, they stood before a cliffside fortress, black stone walls rising like teeth against the night sky. Torches flickered along the gates. Two sentries bowed low as Kael passed, their eyes flicking curiously to Mira but wisely staying silent. He carried her inside, through wide halls lined with pelts and weapons. The air smelled of fire and pine, but beneath it all lingered him — a scent that tangled in her lungs no matter how hard she tried to breathe past it. Finally, he set her down in a room lit by a single fire. It wasn’t a prison — more like a den, warm and rich with furs — but the heavy wooden door behind her clicked shut with finality. “You can’t just take me,” she snapped, backing away until she felt the stone wall against her spine. “This is an act of war.” “It’s an act of fate,” he said simply, stepping closer. “And war was coming whether you knew it or not.” Her pulse hammered. The closer he came, the more her body betrayed her, drawn forward even as her mind screamed to run. “What do you want from me?” she asked. His gaze softened for just a breath — enough to send another confusing ripple through her — before hardening again. “Everything,” he said. “Your loyalty. Your trust. Your bond.” His eyes raked over her, fierce and claiming. “And I’ll have it. One way or another.” Her wolf shivered in recognition. Mira clenched her fists, forcing steel into her voice. “You’ll have nothing from me.” Kael tilted his head slightly, his eyes narrowing as if studying prey. “Then I’ll just have to teach you what happens to those who deny fate.” Before she could answer, he stepped in so close she could feel the heat rolling from his body, his scent overwhelming her senses. For one dangerous heartbeat, his hand brushed a strand of hair from her cheek — a touch so unexpected it stole the air from her lungs. Then, just as quickly, he stepped away, turning toward the door. At the threshold, he paused, glancing over his shoulder. “You belong here, Mira. Whether you believe it yet or not.” The door shut behind him with a solid thud. She exhaled shakily, trying to slow the pounding in her chest. Her mind screamed to find a way out, but her wolf… her wolf was silent, listening, as though it already knew the truth she refused to accept. Through the wooden door, his voice rumbled low — this time to someone else. “Double the guards. If she runs, bring her back… no matter the cost. And break anyone who stands in our way.” Another voice, deeper and colder than Kael’s, replied, “Understood, Alpha.” Footsteps faded, but the echo of his words lingered like a brand on her skin. She was trapped. She was claimed. And worst of all… some part of her didn’t want to fight it.
