CHAPTER 1: The Slap That Changed Everything
“I dare you.”
The words echoed in my ears as laughter filled the crowded hallway.
I should have walked away.
I should have ignored them like I always did.
But today… something inside me snapped.
My eyes locked onto him—the most feared, most desired, and most dangerous boy in school.
Ethan Black.
His name alone made girls blush and boys step aside. He stood there like he owned the world, his dark eyes watching me like I was just another piece of entertainment.
“Go on,” one of the girls whispered behind me. “You said you weren’t scared.”
My heart pounded so loudly I was sure everyone could hear it.
I wasn’t part of their world.
I was invisible.
Just the quiet girl who kept her head down, trying to survive each day without being noticed.
But today… they noticed me.
And they wanted a show.
Ethan tilted his head slightly, a smirk forming on his lips. “Well?” he said, his voice low and dangerous. “Are you going to do it… or are you just another coward?”
Something burned inside my chest.
Before I could think, before I could stop myself—
My hand moved.
SLAP!
The sound rang through the hallway like a gunshot.
Silence.
Complete, shocking silence.
Every eye turned toward us.
Ethan’s head tilted slightly to the side from the impact. For a moment, no one moved. No one breathed.
I had just done the impossible.
I slapped Ethan Black.
My fingers trembled as reality hit me.
What have I done?
Slowly… very slowly… he turned back to face me.
His expression had changed.
The playful smirk was gone.
Replaced by something darker.
Something dangerous.
His eyes locked onto mine, and for the first time, I felt real fear.
He stepped closer.
One step.
Then another.
Until he was standing right in front of me.
Too close.
“Say that again,” he whispered, his voice calm—but terrifying.
“I…” My voice shook. “I didn’t say anything.”
“You didn’t have to,” he replied, his gaze dropping briefly to my lips before returning to my eyes. “Your hand spoke for you.”
The crowd was still silent, watching, waiting.
This wasn’t a game anymore.
This was a mistake.
A big one.
Ethan leaned in slightly, his breath warm against my ear.
“You just made yourself very interesting,” he murmured.
My stomach dropped.
“I don’t want any trouble,” I said quickly, stepping back. “It was just a dare.”
“A dare?” he repeated softly.
Then he smiled.
But this time… it wasn’t charming.
It was dangerous.
“I don’t care about dares,” he said. “I care about consequences.”
My heart skipped.
“And yours,” he added, “just started.”
Before I could respond, he grabbed my wrist—not hard, but firm enough to stop me.
Gasps echoed around us.
“No one walks away after hitting me,” he said quietly.
I swallowed hard.
“What do you want from me?” I whispered.
His eyes darkened.
“You’ll find out.”
Then he let go.
Just like that.
But somehow… that felt worse.
Because deep down, I knew—
This wasn’t over.
It was only the beginning.
And my life… was about to change forever.
