Chapter One: Jace Ryder

The girls were staring again.
Not that Jace cared.
He leaned against his black Lamborghini in the student parking lot, one hand shoved into the pocket of his expensive jeans while the other lazily spun his car keys around a finger.
A crowd had already formed.
Like always.
Some girls pretended to be checking their phones while secretly watching him. Others giggled loudly whenever he glanced in their direction. One particularly bold brunette walked straight up to him.
"Hey, Jace."
No response.
"Did you get my text?"
Still nothing.
The girl's smile faltered.
Jace wasn't even looking at her.
Instead, his attention remained fixed on his friends.
"Dude, are you even listening?" Mason asked, rolling his eyes.
"Barely."
His friends laughed.
The brunette stood there awkwardly for another few seconds before finally walking away, humiliated.
Jace didn't notice.
Or maybe he did and simply didn't care.
Most people at Blackwood Academy thought he was a jerk.
They weren't wrong.
He was rich.
Arrogant.
Annoyingly good-looking.
And completely aware of it.
Teachers gave him extra chances because his family practically funded half the school. Girls threw themselves at him daily. Guys either wanted to be him or punch him.
Neither bothered him.
"You're breaking hearts before first period again," Ethan said.
Jace shrugged.
"Not my problem."
"One day a girl is going to poison your coffee."
"Then I'll die."
His friends burst out laughing.
Jace smirked faintly.
It wasn't a warm smile.
It wasn't friendly.
It looked more like the kind of smile someone gave right before causing trouble.
The kind that made girls fall harder.
The morning breeze ruffled his dark hair.
His silver eyes swept lazily across the campus.
Students.
Teachers.
Cars.
Nothing interesting.
Nothing worth his attention.
Then his gaze stopped.
A strange scent drifted through the air.
His entire body went rigid.
The smirk vanished.
His wolf stirred immediately.
Danger.
His eyes narrowed.
Someone new had arrived at Blackwood Academy.
And for the first time in a very long time...
Jace Ryder was interested.
