Chapter1:Bound by Tradition
Ava stood before the mirror, adjusting her elegant gown. Her reflection showed a poised 19-year-old, but her eyes betrayed a restless soul.
"Tonight's the night," her mother reminded, entering the room. "Meet your fiancé, Edward. Your father's expecting you."
Ava's heart sank. She had never met Edward, but their families had arranged their marriage years ago.
As she descended the staircase, Ava spotted Liam across the room. Their eyes locked, and for a moment, she forgot about Edward, her duties, and the expectations.
Liam's gaze held a spark of rebellion, igniting a flame within Ava.
"Who is that?" Ava asked her mother, trying to sound nonchalant.
"No one of consequence," her mother replied. "Focus on Edward. Your future depends on it."
Ava's duty and desire collided, setting the stage for a choice that would change her life forever.
As Ava's mother nudged her forward, she reluctantly approached Edward. He stood tall, dressed impeccably, with a polite smile plastered on his face. They exchanged pleasantries, but Ava's mind wandered.
"Tell me, Edward, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?" Ava asked, feigning interest.
"I'm passionate about business and expanding our family's legacy," Edward replied, his voice dripping with enthusiasm.
Ava forced a smile, feeling suffocated by the thought of spending her life with someone who embodied everything she wanted to escape.
Just as Edward began detailing his business ventures, Liam appeared beside them.
"Mind if I join the conversation?" Liam asked, his piercing blue eyes locking onto Ava's.
Edward's expression turned cold. "I'm afraid we're in the middle of a private discussion."
Liam smirked. "I'm sure I won't interrupt. I'm an artist. I thrive on inspiration."
Ava's heart skipped a beat as Liam's gaze lingered on hers. Her mother cleared her throat, breaking the spell.
"Liam, you're...unexpected," Ava's mother said, her tone laced with disapproval.
"Life's full of surprises," Liam replied, his smile hinting at mischief.
As the evening wore on, Ava found herself drifting toward Liam, engaging in hushed conversations and stolen glances. Edward's words became background noise, but Liam's presence electrified her.
In the garden, Liam cornered Ava beneath a starlit sky.
"You're trapped," Liam whispered, his breath caressing her ear. "I can see it in your eyes."
Ava's pulse quickened. "What makes you think that?"
"Your smile," Liam said, his voice low and husky. "It's a prisoner of war."
Ava laughed, feeling a connection she couldn't ignore.
"Meet me tomorrow," Liam urged. "Let's explore the city, just us."
Ava hesitated, knowing the consequences of disobedience.
"I'll be there," she whispered, the rebellion sparking within her.
As Ava nodded, Liam's eyes gleamed with triumph. He vanished into the crowd, leaving Ava reeling.
"Edward, I need some air," Ava said, excusing herself.
In the garden, Ava's mother cornered her.
"Ava, focus on Edward. He's your future," she warned.
"I know, Mother. But—"
"No buts. Your duty is clear."
Ava bit back her retort, knowing rebellion wouldn't win this battle.
The night dragged on, Ava's mind torn between duty and desire.
As the evening drew to a close, Ava's father summoned her.
"Ava, Edward's family has agreed to the engagement. The wedding will be in six months," he announced.
Ava's heart sank. Trapped.
In her room, Ava found a note slipped under her door:
"Tomorrow. 2 PM. Meet me at the old oak in the park. Come alone. -L"
Ava's pulse quickened. She knew she should ignore it, but her heart refused to obey.
