Surprise baby shower

Kate's POV

Months went by and my belly kept getting bigger. I knew I had to inform Liam I wasn’t going to work for him after the baby was born. I wanted to watch my child grow and only return to work after my baby was a year old.

It was Friday afternoon and we had just finished work. I went into Liam’s office to talk to him about my decision.

“Hey boss.” I was standing by the door.

“Come in Kate. What’s with the formalities?” he asked.

“Well I have come to talk to you as your assistant and not friend”

Liam and I were friends and nothing else, he did try to make things between us more complicated and I stopped him. Though he kept calling and checking on me when I wasn’t in the office and visiting me often. Didn’t make sense why he wanted to be part of this child’s life when he wasn’t even the father.

“Okay…………take a seat” he said, and I did. “So what’s up?”

“I don’t think there’s an easy way of saying this so I will just tell you.” I took a deep breath before I continued. “I have decided to resign next month.”

His face went cold and blank. He frowned before he spoke. “Why do you want to leave? Have I been a bad boss?”

“No you haven’t”

“Then what is it that’s making you leave?” his face was filled with sadness. He clearly didn’t want me to leave.

“Well am due next month and after I deliver I want to stay home and raise my child. I know am not eligible for the maternity leave yet so I would rather resign”

There was no better way of saying this and I knew it would hurt him that I was going to leave.

“I also want to take leave in a few weeks to prepare for the baby. I haven’t bought anything for him.” I couldn’t look at his face anymore he made me feel bad for doing this to him.

“Will you come back and work for me when you are ready?” he asked. I didn’t have the response he needed so I just looked down.

“Am relocating back to Canada, my grandparents asked me to live with them for a while so am not even sure I might come back.” I knew this would break his heart.

Soon he picked his things and left me in his office. I didn’t blame or hate him. If only there was a way for me to stay. I wasn’t going to make him fall in love with me and let him raise someone else’s child.

Liam’s POV

I got into my car and drove off. I left her in my office seated without saying a word. I was going to miss her when left. I wish I told her I was responsible for her condition, if only I had the courage to tell her, maybe then she wouldn’t leave me. I would go back home to her and our son everyday if I had told her. But now she’s going to leave me and go to Canada. I must do something for her. I must find a way to tell her. I got my phone and called Janet.

“Hey Janet, I have a quick question.”

“Sure what’s up?”

“How quick can you organize a baby shower?”

“Ahhhhh….” She sounded surprised.

“I need your help to organize one for Kate tomorrow”

“What!!!!!! Tomorrow is too soon. Why the urgency I was already organizing one which is in a week’s time.”

“Okay fine. Can you escort me somewhere tomorrow?”

I made plans to meet up with Janet the next day but Kate didn’t have to know anything. The next day Janet and I went round to buy everything Kate needed for the baby. Janet kept asking why I spent so much on the baby but I couldn’t tell her why. It was the least I could do for my son now.

The following week went by fast. Kate was always tired due to her pregnancy. She only had a month to go before the baby arrived. I didn’t want to stress her so much. I let her come in after 8am and had to chase her by 4pm to go home and rest.

Saturday

Janet and I worked hard to keep this a secret from Kate. Everything was set and I decided I wanted the baby shower to take place at my house. Around 10am I called Kate and asked her to prepare herself. I told her I needed her to accompany me to a social event for a friend. It was hard convincing her to come since we were only friends and she didn’t let anything else happen between us. Once I picked her up, she noticed me driving towards my place and asked why we’re going over to my place. I had to come up with an excuse.

“Why are they so many cars parked here” she noticed the cars parked in my yard, they all belonged to her friends and glad she didn’t realize that.

I didn’t answer her question and led her straight to the back yard where everyone was. When she saw all her friends she was really happy. I had never seen Kate this happy. Soon she started crying which I didn’t understand ey lol. Must be the pregnancy hormones making her cry. The whole event went well as planned and Kate was amazed with the gifts, I was praying she wouldn’t find out I bought 90% of the gifts but either way she did. It was hard for me to stick around but Kate forced too by. An event that lasted 4hrs felt like an entire day. I always dreamt of being around so many girls as a teenage boy but not at this moment. I was looking forward to the end of the event.

Eventually it all came to an end and the guests started to leave. I was happy I must say. I was in my room when I heard Kate coming in.

“Liam may I please use your bathroom the other bathrooms are occupied” she asked as she made her way to the bathroom.

“Please feel free” I left the room to give her some privacy. I joined Janet down stairs as she gathered the gifts Kate received from her friends. Soon all the people left and only Kate, Janet and I were left in the house.

“It was you!!!!” Janet and I heard a broken voice coming from behind. We turned and Kate was standing behind me. She was crying and holding a diamond bracelet in her hands. Janet walked over to Kate.

“Kate what’s wrong?” Janet asked as she wiped Kate’s tears from her face.

“Janet it was him” Kate was crying uncontrollably

“Kate yes he bought all the things and………..” Kate interrupted Janet.

“NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Liam is the guy I have been trying to remember” Janet’s face soon went pale. She turned and looked at me. I had no words says to her.

“I remember everything now”

Kate’s POV

The moment I left his bathroom I walked over to his dressing mirror to have a look at myself and spotted my bracelet on the dressing table. The diamond bracelet before me was the last gift I received from my parents on my 21st birthday. It had my name engraved on it so it was definitely mine. I picked it up into my hands and tried to remember when last I had it with me. I had visited Liam’s house but never been in his room. Then it all suddenly hit me. I couldn’t believe it’s him.

Kate has a flashback

Janet and I had so much fun during her birthday weekend. We had lunch then later went to have drinks. After so much tequila and weed I decided to go home and on my way I stopped by Drama at Manda Hill. There I met Nathan and Kristin. I chilled with them for a bit. When I was about to leave, Nathan’s friends showed up who had what I though was cocaine. I took some and got so high I went to dance on the dance floor. I was having so much fun and then he approached me and said “Hey beautiful” I turned and smiled at him. We started talked and soon started dancing. While dancing my bracelet and the chain around his neck got tangled together. He suggested we seat by the bar and try to separate them. We started talking and soon I was tired and wanted to leave. We checked into a hotel and took a shower together and then had s*x.

 “You knew it was me when I walked into your office a week later. Why didn’t you say something? When we found out I was pregnant you distanced yourself from me for a week. You never asked me who the father of my baby was because you knew you were the father. When I told you, I would move to Canada you never fought for me to stay or even for your child. You bought all the things I needed for the baby and still said nothing.”

I knelt on his floor and cried my lungs out. “After all this time why didn’t you tell me?” Liam was standing in front of me motionless. He just stood there and said nothing at all. Janet was now crying with me and holding me for comfort.

“C’mon get up, we shall leave now” Janet helped me up and we started to leave. Liam followed us behind and tried to talk to me.

“Kate…..please give me a chance to explain.”

“You just shut the hell up Liam” Janet was angry and yelling now. “I have never met anyone as sick as you are. You met Kate 8months ago and the two of you had s*x that night. She may have not remembered you and everything else the next day but you did and kept this from her. You made her your assistant and even got intimate with her again, you didn’t say anything and want to explain what if I may ask.” Janet and I left his house and walked over to her car. I got into the passenger seat and closed the door. Liam came to my window yelling

“Kate am really sorry just give me a chance to explain. I was stupid and scared……” Janet interrupted him.

“Liam just shut up. You are full of s**t. Leave Kate alone. I never want to see you near her or her baby.” Janet immediately got into her car and we drove off.
