"Call me when she's dead."

A few hours later, the building exploded.... After that, there was nothing left to explain.

Just a closed case file... and a woman no one bothered to look for properly.

Except she didn't stay gone... Now she's back in the only place she was never supposed to enter again, his company.

But this time she came back for a reason...

Files go missing. Conversations get twisted.

Frank calls it sabotage.

Mira calls it timing.

But how will this perfect play turn out?

Chapter 1
Mara had noticed the change long before she admitted to herself that this wasn’t something dramatic. Frank didn’t suddenly stop coming home or start shouting at her, things were quieter this time and more painful. He stopped asking questions. Weeks passed, and he no longer asked how her day went or commented on the meals she prepared, even though she still cooked his favorites out of habit. When she spoke, he listened, but not really. His eyes drifted elsewhere, his phone always within reach, and his mind clearly far away. That night, he came home later than usual. Mara was seated in the living room, her legs tucked beneath her, the television muted. She had been pretending to watch, but she’d really just been waiting. Listening for the familiar sound of his footsteps in the hallway. When the door opened, she didn’t turn immediately. “You’re late,” she said quietly. Frank loosened his tie as he walked in, his jacket already going halfway off his shoulders. “I had work,” his reply sounded off and distant. “You always have work,” Mara said. He didn’t answer but walked straight past her toward the bar, then poured himself a drink, and leaned against the counter like the conversation was already over. “Frank,” she said, standing up. “Can you at least look at me when I’m talking to you?” He sighed, long and finally turned. “What do you want, Mara?” The way he said her name, as if it were a chore, stung. “I want to know when my husband became a stranger,” she replied. “I want to know why you come home every night like you’re just passing through.” “I’m tired,” he said. “Can we not do this right now?” “No,” Mara said, shaking her head. “We’re doing this now.” She crossed the room slowly, stopping a few feet away from him. “You’ve been cold for weeks. You barely touch me. You don’t even talk to me anymore. You just… exist like you don’t exist at all.” Frank took a sip of his drink. “You’re imagining things.” “I’m not,” she said. “And I think you know that too.” For a few seconds, there was a pause from both ends. “And ever since Vivian came back, you’ve been distant,” Mara added softly. The name ‘Vivian’ changed everything. Frank’s jaw tightened, and his grip on the glass hardened, but he didn’t say anything. Mara felt like the floor shifted beneath her feet. “So it’s true,” she whispered. “You are seeing her.” He looked away, exhaling slowly. “It’s not that simple.” “You didn’t deny it,” she said, then her voice began to tremble despite her effort to stay calm. “You didn’t even try.” “She came back,” Frank said. “And she needed help.” Vivian. Frank’s ex-fiancée, who had existed in the background of their marriage like a ghost, neither of them spoke about. Frank’s first love. The one who had left him years ago to chase something bigger and shinier. And now she was back. “And you didn’t think to tell me?” Mara asked bitterly. “You didn’t think I deserved to know?” “I didn’t plan for this,” he replied. “It just… happened.” Mara let out a short, humorless laugh. “Funny how it always just happens with her.” Frank finally looked at her, irritation flashed through his eyes. “What do you want me to do, Mara? Turn her away?” “Yes,” she snapped. “You’re a married man, Frank.” “That doesn’t mean I stopped having a past,” he shot back. “No,” Mara said quietly. “But it means you’re supposed to choose your present, except you still have feelings for her.” Silence fell between them again. Mara swallowed, forcing the words out. “Do you still love her?” Frank didn’t answer, but that was enough for her to understand. She shook her hands slightly at her sides, but she straightened her back. “I want a divorce,” she said. Frank blinked, then scoffed lightly. “Don’t be ridiculous.” “I’m serious.” “You’re emotional,” he replied dismissively. “You don’t know what you’re saying.” “I know exactly what I’m saying,” Mara said. “I won’t stay where I’m not wanted.” He stepped closer, his tone turning sharp. “And where do you think you’re going to go?” The question hit her harder than she expected. “You have nowhere to go, Mara,” he continued. “This house, this life… everything you have is because of me.” Anger rushed through her chest as his words sounded unbelievable to her ears. “So that’s what I am to you?” she asked. “A possession?” “You’re being dramatic.” “No,” she said. “I’m being honest.” Frank stared at her for a long moment, then pulled out his phone. “Fine,” he said coldly. “If that’s what you want.” He made a call. Within minutes, there was a knock at the door. Mara watched in disbelief as a man stepped inside, handed Frank a folder, and left the same way he came. Frank tossed the papers onto the table. “If that’s what you want,” he said. “Sign it.” Mara picked up the pen while her hands trembled, but she didn't sign it yet. Frank's phone rang. He glanced at the screen, his face tightened. Without a word, he slipped his phone into his pocket and grabbed his jacket. “I’m leaving,” he said. “Of course you are,” Mara replied softly. Frank didn’t look back. The door closed behind him, leaving her alone in the penthouse that suddenly felt far too big. Mara sank onto the couch, staring at the papers on her lap in disbelief.
