It All Started With A Hex

Chapter 1

Six months later

“Mama! Papa! I’m leaving!” I said to them, three months ago when my brother left to join a guild we haven’t seen him since, but he does send letters and holograms showing what a good time he’s having and he’s smiling even more than the he left, I wonder if it’s a bad thing that I miss my bully of a big brother, I wonder if that’s why he was nice to me before he left because he knew he wouldn’t be coming back. After he left, I decided to stay home for three months to help and learn some more incantations that my grandmother had left for my mother. A few weeks ago, I got accepted into my parent’s old guild and just as my mother said they were extremely welcoming and sweet, they can’t wait until I’m apart of their guild full time. Three days ago, I turned 15 and the unexpected happen I got a hologram from my brother smiling and saying happy birthday to me, it almost made me cry he had been so mean to me since I was born not wanting to hug me, pick me up, not ever wanting to give me a piggy back ride, and not even wanting to play with me but now he’s changing and I think I like this change and I pray to the gods that he doesn’t go back to how he was before. “Do you have everything baby girl?” my father asked me with a big smile it looked like he was brimming with pride “yes papa I have everything, I can’t wait to get started I wonder where Light is? He’s running late again!” I said, that’s Light for you he is a swordsman but boy is he dumb sometimes I love him sure, but I can’t help but wonder what kind of hell is he going to get me into? My childhood friend is a troublemaker.  “Hey Ellie! I’m outside!” Light shouted, I hugged my parents one last time and kissed them and told them I’ll send them a hologram when I get to the guild dormitory, when we walked outside our home what I saw next caught me off guard. My parents bought me a Pegasus?! He was so beautiful with his glittery white coat and long white mane and big brown eyes when I dropped my bags by the door my legs just moved on their own and ran right to him and I hugged him “His name is Ace” my mother said with tears in her eyes “take care of him and he’ll take care of you” my mother said while wiping the tears from my eyes.

“Whoa your parents got you a Pegasus. That’s amazing! He’ll definitely come in handy” Light said with a mischievous smile on his face. I looked back at him and said in an almost furiously calm tone” Light you get my little ace and me into any trouble to the dormitory and you’re going to go flying off him!” I could see my parents both nodding their heads while glaring at Light too. “I swear to you all that I Light Oasis shall not cause any issues on the way to the dormitory” he said while holding his hand over his heart, I swear if he wasn’t so annoying and dumb sometimes, he probably would’ve ended up being my future husband. Light’s got Dark red hair and deep blue eyes with a smile that could stop any girls heart and a body that would make any woman drool or want to take him in the middle of the road. While I was thinking this my father loaded our bags onto another gift that some brought for me, “it’s a parting gift from Zane honey” my mother said and I immediately looked at her with a horrified look and began to look over the carriage carefully just to make sure he wasn’t up to his old tricks again, but I didn’t find anything abnormal after I got done I decided that I’d better say thank you and be grateful to him “mama can you tell him I said thank you and I appreciate it” I said with a smile. After everything was put onto the carriage, we got onto it and instantly I could tell Ace was ready to hit the sky and who am I to keep him waiting since we have half a day’s ride, as ace took to the sky, we waved goodbye to my parents and “you think that they’ll be alright?” I asked Light with a worried look on my face “yeah Ellie they’ll be fine have a little faith, besides if they miss you, they know where to find you or where you’ll be” he said with his usual carefree attitude.

After about thirty minutes in the sky Light began to act strangely almost as if he is trying to remember something “what are you thinking about over there?” I asked him while looking at him with my brow raised “there was something I was supposed to say to you or maybe give to you, but I can’t quite remember what it was” he said while crossing his arms and thinking hard and tapping his foot, I couldn’t help but shake my head when he said that a small giggle escaped my lips.

An hour passed since he started to think about what it was that he had forgotten and now he’s starting to give me a headache “that’s it now I remember!” he said suddenly making me jump and stare at him, then he reached in his pocket and handed me a letter addressed to him “you sure its for me it has your name on it though?” I said to him almost skeptical with a brow raised he just let out an aggravated sigh and opened the letter an pulled out a note with my name on it, wait its from Zane? I don’t understand why would he send me a letter through Light? This doesn’t make any sense to me…
