Ryan's POV
The drive home was the worst. My pride was hurt by the rejection. I said everything I thought she wanted to hear, I wanted to have a relationship with her.
But she wanted to be 'just friends'.
I can't be just friends with her when all I can ever think about is being with her. And never mind the fact that every time I see her a certain organ jumps at the sight of her, remembering the special thing we did that one night.
I bet she has another man, one better than you. My subconscious taunted. My hands tightened on the steering wheel and my foot pressed harder on the gas. I was speeding towards my second home, where a heavy supply of alcohol waited for me.
.....
The football game was on, the beers were opened, and I was comfortable. Sitting in my house alone. After confessing to her I sure didn't think I would be here, especially not alone. I thought I would be with my girlfriend.
Too bad she doesn't want you. And she wasn't your girlfriend stupid. My subconscious mocked.
There was a knock on the door, and I walked over to answer it, peeking through the hole.
It was Jane. My heart jumped and I wanted to fling open the door and drag her in here. I wanted to kiss her senseless until she agreed to be mine and only mine.
But instead I opened the door, masking all emotions.
"What do you need?" My voice was void of emotion. Good job.
"I came here to tell you um that I um.." She was stuttering, she looked nervous. I wanted to make that feeling go away, but I knew she didn't want me.
Not like I wanted her.
"Look Jane I'm just trying to watch football and get over you so if you could just tell me what you need that would be great." I spat at her again, this time my voice mean.
"What I need is for you not to get over me. I was wrong when I said I wanted to be friends. I don't I want to do everything you said in the car and more-" Her words were piercing my heart, everything I wished she would have said in the car, she was saying now.
She didn't mean it, or else she would have said it then, in the car.
"It's too late, especially now that your boyfriend is walking up my driveway." I watched as Aston Smith strutted up my property, a smirk on his face. I could have pounded it in. I should have.
"I don't have a-" She started to assure me, but he cut her off.
"Jane! I've been looking for you!" He said behind her.
"Get off my property Smith." I warned. I was angry, my jaw was clenched, and I stared down at Jane, my eyes searching hers. Just looking at her calmed me, but not enough.
"He's not my boyfriend. I came here to talk to you about that actually." She bites her lip, but I can barely hear what she's saying. A flame ignites in me and if Aston hadn't been there I bet my hard resolve would have crumbled and I would have taken her right on this step.
Too bad she rejected you.
"Jane! Come with me, I want to take you out." The bastard said. Jane looked away from me, instead she turned to him.
"Aston, I really can't talk right now. I'm trying to talk to Ryan." I smiled quickly, but it fell off my face as she turned back around to me. Her grey eyes were wide. Oh Lord she could have anything she wanted with eyes like that.
"We have nothing to talk about, so go ahead Smith, take her." I said, regardless of my thoughts.
"You don't mean that-" But we both cut her off.
"Go ahead Jane go with him." I said, but my anger was burning me from within. A couple more seconds and I would have to beat his ass. And take my woman inside.
"You heard the man Jane, come on." He touched her hip and I looked away quickly.
"Both of you listen to me! I'm not some doll you pass around!" She yells, flinging her hands into the air. God she was beautiful when she was angry. "I need to talk to-"But this time she was cut off by his lips. I shut the door as quickly and quietly as I could. Leaning against it I could hear her voice asking him to not do that again. I smiled slightly but my anger fueled up even more, and I moved towards the kitchen as quick as I could. I grabbed the strongest alcohol I could see.
Whiskey.
.....
It was hours later and my foggy brain barely registered as I made my way up to my office.
"I have..have..to get work.." I slurred, speaking to myself. My arms waved wildly around me and I tripped over a carpeted stair. I sat there for a minute. Looking around at my surroundings. I was feeling dizzy, but my phone vibrated.
It was an email from one of Chang's representatives. I read it with my beer goggles on. But then I read it twice. And a third time. And a fourth time before any words registered in my brain.
"Distraction...no pay....horrible business...Smith company...wins." I thought for a second.
Why would they be telling me we were distracted?
Jane was my publicist she had been working on..
"Oh God." I put a hand to my aching head. She hadn't given me updates on the Chang assignment in weeks.
And Aston had came around soon after Chang did.
What was he playing at? My drunk mind tried to figure out what exactly had happened.
Aston comes in. Tries to get Jane. Distracts her. Talks to her, helps her at the hospital, causes her to be confused about her feelings I think.
My brain was trying to tell me something. What was it?
Distracts her. Distracts her. Distracts her.
Oh my God. He distracted her. He some how found out we were trying to sabotage him and he turned it around.
I groaned in pain at the throbbing headache. I would have to suck it up and go tell Jane. I had to go tell her now.
I grabbed my phone and typed out a message to my security back at the building to find out where they went. The response came in minutes.
His house.
"Fuck." I swore, getting up from the stair. I dialed my driver. "Come get me. I need to go." I barked into the phone.
.....
My head was a bit more clear now that I had some water and pills. I could function without a blinding pain behind my eyes. My driver pulled up to Aston's apartment complex. He lived on the very top floor, no surprise,
It took some bribing to get through the front desk but once I was in the elevator, rage began to consume me. Maybe it was from the alcohol maybe not.
But Jane was in his house.
And I didn't like that.
I stalked out of the elevator towards his apartment. I could hear some type of music playing from the door, and I brought my fist up to pound on it.
"Someone's at your door." She giggled.
"Stay, I'll be right back." He said. I heard his footsteps coming towards the door. He opened it and his eyes widened in surprise before a smirk appeared on his face. I pushed past him to look at Jane who was sitting on his couch.
My eyes turned dark and I ran my hand through my hair trying to calm myself down. There she was.
Sitting on his couch in a white button down of his.
She quickly jumped up putting her hands out.
"It's not what you think at all." She read my mind.
"What is it then?" I asked quietly.
"The lady does not have to explain herself to you." Aston stepped up but Jane sent him a glare.
"It rained earlier, it poured earlier actually, for about ten minutes and we were outside eating so I got soaked to the bone. My clothes are right there in a wet pile. See?" She said hurriedly. It was like she didn't want me to think she would ever sleep with him.
The thought made me happy.
"Okay, I'm glad." I offered her a small smile and she breathed a sigh of relief. She was relieved?
"Is there anything else you need?" Aston spoke up.
"Yeah, this." And then I slung my arm, hitting him square in the nose. I heard a satisfying crack and I shook my hand off.
"Aston!" She raced towards him but I stuck my arm out, catching her around the waist. I pulled her to my chest and held her tight.
"He was using you. He was distracting you so you wouldn't put out the bad things about his company. Remember the Chang assignment?" I reminded her.
"You asshole!" She leaped out of my arms and kicked him. Right where it hurt. I laughed but felt his pain as he groaned out loud.
"Come." I said, grabbing her hand and leading her out of this apartment. We walked down to the car waiting and slid in.
My driver drove off leaving Jane and I in an awkward silence.
"Take this off and put this on." I said, taking off the shirt on my body. She looked at me but didn't say anything as she unbuttoned the buttons exposing her naked chest and stomach. I looked away as I felt a tightening down under.
She grabbed my shirt, trailing her nails down my chest and abdomen. I placed a hand on hers, stopping her before I wouldn't be able to stop myself.
"Where do we stand?" She asked quietly.
I didn't answer, instead placing a hand on her thigh, squeezing hard.
Mine.
