"It's about time you called me." She snapped as she stormed around me in to the apartment.
"You could have called me!" I exclaimed.
"Girl, you both know that wasn't going to happen!" We both giggle at her inability to call or text anyone first.
"What's wrong?" She looks at my tear streaked face.
"Ryan confessed to me today." I say, collapsing on my couch.
"Hot, business man, Blackout make out Ryan?" She squeals, sitting next to me.
"Yes, he said all these cute things, he took me to meet his sister who by the way is the girl Max cheated with, so that was interesting." I say.
"Wait wait wait, start from the beginning." She says, biting into a chewy chocolate chip cookie.
I tell her the entire story of everything from the past couple of months with the occasional comment about a certain detail.
"Wow. You messed up J." She says.
"You think? I feel like I regret it but then again it was for the better."
"The better? The better is you sitting here crying and upset because you can't be with the guy you like?" She asks sarcastically.
"That's the thing. I don't know if I like him." I say quietly.
"What? You think you might lo-"
"Love him. yes. I think I love him. And I don't want to get hurt again."
"Jane! Listen to yourself. The guy you love just confessed all these feelings for you and you think he's going to hurt you?"
"Yes." I wail, realizing how stupid I sound.
"Have you guys you know done the deed?" She asks.
"Um yeah.." My face turns beet red, my grey eyes widening thinking of the incredible 'deed' that we had done.
"You seem pretty emotional, you sure you're not pregnant?" She jokes, biting into a sandwich.
"Of course not he used protecti-" I trail off, my stomach dropping. He didn't use protection. There was none handy. I jump off the couch running to the calendar to find the red s***h mark of my last period.
"Lacy. I'm three weeks late." I yell across the room.
"Don't trip J, you're fine. Isn't your period always odd?" She yells back.
She's right. It never comes on time. My mini freak out was over and now all I was left with was Lacy's words bouncing around in my confused head.
Maybe I should go talk to him. Tell him that I like him back and apologize for leaving the car. Maybe I should see if we can still work through things, maybe even be a couple.
My heart jumped at the thought.
"What are you going to do Jane?" She asked as I sat back down next to her.
"I'm going to run straight over to his house and tell him exactly how I feel." I declare.
"Whoa wait! Are you sure that's a good idea? Why don't you sleep on it and wait to tell him Monday?" She counters.
"No, he needs to know now. And I know Ryan, he's probably fuming in his house right now thinking that I turned him down for someone else." I laugh at her and slip on my shoes.
"Alright I think I'm going to just stay here and watch TV until you get back." She leans back against the couch.
"Okay, if all goes well I might not be back." I wink at her jokingly.
"Ooooh! Girl!" She yells as I walk out the door.
.....
"Is Ryan here?" I ask his housekeeper once she opens the door.
"No. He stays at his other house for the weekends honey."
"Other house?" I question.
"Yes, would you like the address? It's about ten minutes from here. I clean it during the week, it's very lavish." She explains, writing down the address on a small slip of paper.
"Erm-thanks." I say sheepishly, dialing another taxi to take me to the address. Why does he have two homes?
.....
When the taxi drove away it left me in front of the biggest house I've ever seen. Given I haven't looked at houses much in my life but this was definitely a big one. The front doors were made of an old expensive looking wood and the lawn was perfectly manicured, complete with beautiful flower beds. I walked up to the door, the nerves in my body increasing with each step.
I rang the doorbell and it took a few seconds for the door to pop open revealing a shirtless Ryan with a beer in his hands. My stomach dropped, wondering why he was shirtless when he was home alone but I kept my hopes up. He wouldn't be with another girl.
"What do you need?" His voice was cold and hard.
I coughed twice and swallowed hard. "I came here to tell you um that I um.."
"Look Jane I'm just trying to watch football and get over you so if you could just tell me what you need that would be great." He spat.
"What I need is for you not to get over me." I found my confidence. "I was wrong when I said I wanted to be friends. I don't I want to do everything you said in the car and more-"
"It's too late, especially now that your boyfriend is walking up my driveway." He says, his voice angry, his jaw clenched.
"I don't have a-" A voice cut me off.
"Jane! I've been looking for you!" Aston said from behind me.
"Get off my property Smith." Ryan warned. His jaw was ticking and he was looking at me, more like through me.
"He's not my boyfriend. I came here to talk to you about that actually." I bite my lip. His eyes travel towards my lips and he licks his own, but a look crosses over his features and he back up, going further into his home.
"Jane! Come with me, I want to take you out." He appeared behind me.
This is so weird how did he even find me?
"Aston, I really can't talk right now. I'm trying to talk to Ryan." I plead.
"We have nothing to talk about, so go ahead Smith, take her." He said, holding his hand out as a grand gesture.
"You don't mean that-" But I'm cut off by both voices.
"Go ahead Jane go with him." Ryan said.
"You heard the man Jane, come on." He touched my hip and I flinched away.
"Both of you listen to me! I'm not some doll you pass around!" I yell, flinging my hands into the air. "I need to talk to-" But again I'm cut off. But this time by lips. Cold unfamiliar lips. Nothing like Ryan's.
My mind registers the person forcing his lips upon mine and I shove him away, moving backwards to Ryan. Or so I thought. But it was a cold wood door that hit my back.
"Don't do that." I spat. Aston was nothing close to perverted, in fact he looked like a Greek God, but the way he was looking at me now gave me the chills.
"I apologize. Come with me? Please?" His blue eyes looked up at me and I had no other choice but to go with him, seeing as Ryan had turned his back on me.
Did I really hurt him? I came to apologize! Why wasn't he letting me talk? I pouted internally as I cast one sad look at the door, following Aston and riding off in his car.
