Hospitals and Arguments

"Jane, let me get you some food please. The doctor said you can't do anything until he wakes up." Darren pleads. "He could wake up any minute, and I'm not hungry. His anesthesia will wear off soon, please go home. I'll be there tomorrow or something." I wave him off and he sighs in defeat. "Call me later." I nod and put my hand back over Cayden's. My phone buzzes in my back pocket, probably Ryan calling for the tenth time. I couldn't talk to him right now, not when Cayden was in a hospital bed right next to me covered in bandages. A nurse came in half an hour later to give me a blanket and offer me a cot but I declined politely, I wouldn't be sleeping tonight. ..... My eyes had started to droop around five in the morning when I felt a tiny movement in my hand. "Cayden?" I sat up alarmed. He groaned in response and I grabbed the water I had been refreshing for the past couple of hours for when he woke up. "Here, drink." I put the cup to his lips and he swallows it quickly so I pull away. "Jane?" He asks, his voice cracking and his lips barely moving. "Yes it's me, here I have some chap stick for you." I smother it onto his cracked lips and he sighs a little. "I'm sorry I wasn't thinking, I saw you walking a little bit up the street so I ran, not looking at where I was going." He says slowly. "Wait you were running after me?" Guilt consumes me. "Don't feel bad Jane, please. This was all my fault, I'm not that bruised up am I?" He tries to crack joke but the tears were already sliding down my cheeks. "I'm so sorry Cayden, for this for everything that's happened to us. Look I even ruined your tattoos." I pointed sadly to the cuts all up his tatted arm. "Those will heal, and so will I. But I need you to know, I never meant to hurt you when I slept with Mandy. I was angry because of you and Ryan, and because I believed what Lily told me right away. I saw the sparks between you I just chose to ignore it, but I won't anymore. I realize that's who you want to be with, I always saw the way you looked at him, and I think you should be with him." He stopped his speech with a gesture towards the water, so I handed it to him. "I'm sorry Cayden. I never meant to hurt you, I denied liking Ryan as much as I did and as much of a train wreck him and I are we can't seem to stay away from each other. And even though I hate cheaters, I did that to you. And I'm forever going to be sorry. And guilty. Especially after you almost just killed yourself to try and get me. I'm sorry a thousand times Cayden." I leaned my forehead against his and then kissed his cheek. "The Doc told me I'd be all fixed up with some good looking scars when I get out of here, so I'll be fine. Now instead of sitting here with me talking about our feelings how about you go home to him and next time tell him not to call you so much. It's kind of creepy." He winked at me and I laughed a little wiping my tears. "So one last question though: are you and Mandy still talking?" I ask curiously. A blush appears on his bruised face and he smiles a little. "Yes, she's a little crazy though." "That's Mandy," We both laugh, "Well I should get back to Ryan and tell him everything that's happened." I lean down and kiss his cracked lips in a friendly gesture and touch his face nodding a goodbye. ..... "Ryan! Open up!" I bang on the door to his house, not the suburban one. "Jane! What a delightful surprise since you haven't returned my phone calls in the last almost 24 hours. Step in, please!" He gestures wildly to the inside of his house and I step around him. "Are you drunk?" I ask. "Of course I am, I drink when I get mad you know? Like when I get really mad that I get texted a picture of you kissing that guy." He shoves the phone in my face with the big picture of my goodbye kiss to Cayden. "That's not what it looks like, see I was just kissing him a goodbye because we opened up to each other about-" "About how you love each other right? Save it." He holds up his hand to stop me and swigs down the whiskey in his other hand. "No about you, he was telling me how I should be with you and I told him how sorry I was but that I loved you." I say, my voice small. "Sure you did! Sure you did you w***e. You're just like Lily. Damn this is the last time you let yourself fall for a girl." He muttered the last part to himself. "Don't you ever compare me to that b***h!" I raise my voice, pushing him back. He stumbles and trips over himself falling to the ground as the whiskey bottle smashes further to his right. "You're so pathetic you know. You confess your love to me, tell me everything you want me to hear, act like you care, and then I confess my love to you. I prove how much I love you and still it's not enough! Then you don't believe ME when I try to explain a picture but instead you believe what your twisted mind has thought up. And then you have the audacity to tell me that I'm a w***e? You know what Ryan, you're just a no good son of a bitch." I sneer at him, wiping away the angry sad tears that were falling down my face. "And one last thing," I pause, "f**k you." I stomp off, slamming the door behind me, the last sight I see Ryan cradling his head, muttering some sort of apology and proclaiming how idiotic he was. But I told myself I didn't care.
