One Last Chance

All hell had broken loose in the past week and I couldn't do anything about it. Not only had Ryan and I 'broken up' and I quit my job working for him so I didn't have to see him, I had also negelected my part time job as a columnist. Because I was so distracted by everything since I had met Ryan, I hadn't written in weeks. So I technically was fired, and the only reason I knew that is because I picked up the newspaper and saw a different person had replaced my column. "Was I really that unfocused?" I complained to Darren and Lacy as we sat in Darren and I's apartment. "Yes actually, I hadn't even heard from you since the night I told you to go talk to him. You were really self involved." Lacy said, taking a bite of the burrito she was eating. "Why didn't either of you smack me on the head?" I whined. "Don't put this on us! We have nothing to do with the reason you are sitting here in sweatpants and a dirty tank top. Look at your hair!" Darren exclaimed, looking at me with distaste. "Shut up," I said, "Now I need to find a different job and I need to do something with my life." The thought sounded horrible, even as I said it. My phone buzzed on the coffee table and Darren held out his hand for Lacy to give him money. "You owe me five, I told you he would call again." Darren smirked and Lacy dug out a crumpled bill from her pocket and slapped it in his hand. I looked at the phone buzzing with the word Ryan. "Should I answer?" I asked them, this being the almost one hundredth time he's called in the past seven days. "Yes, finally tell him off and get some closure, damn!" Lacy said. I picked up the phone and slid the call across to answer it. "Hello?" I gulped. "You answered." He breathed through the phone. I looked at Lacy and Darren out of the corner of my eye, who were both listening intently, and then focused back in on the conversation. "Yeah, yes I did. Were you calling for a specific reason?" "I want to see you." He said quickly. "I don't think that's a good idea-" I trailed off but he interrupted me. "Five minutes, at the little house that I first took you too. I'm begging you Jane." The desperation in his voice made my sort of hard resolve crumble and I nodded along as Darren through his hands up in the air. "Fine. Five minutes, I'll be there in twenty." I said, ending the call. "So much for closure." Lacy laughed. "Right, you better not go back to Old Jane. Figure out a happy medium when you guys get back together." Darren said. "We're not getting back together-" But Darren held his hand up. 'Don't kid yourself, you love him. Go get him Jane." Darren said and Lacy shook her head to agree. ..... "I didn't think you would come." He opened the door for me. "So now I'm a liar and a cheater?" I spat, walking around him. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Don't start, please." "I'm sorry, you're right. You have something to say?" I asked, sitting down. "I'm sorry, Jane," He started. "I know you already knew I was going to say that and I know I messed up. Really messed up. I believed what I was sent and I'm sorry. But I need you to know that I love you and I won't ever doubt you again. It can just be me and you, I'm such a jealous f*****g- piece of nothing Jane. But when I'm around you, you make me feel things I've never felt before. How cliché of me to say but it's so true. You are the redhead that stole my heart, and I want you to keep it forever." He got down on one knee in front of me and produced a ring. Holy s**t. ..... "So you went there mad and broken hearted and you came back engaged!" Darren yelled. "Yeah, and that's a nice rock." Lacy picked my hand up and admired it. "Am I weak for accepting his proposal? But even before he proposed I was going to take him back, in the middle of his speech." I laughed awkwardly, afraid of what my friends would think. "Oh honey, no that's your man. You shouldn't care what we think all that matters is you need to pack your s**t and go be with him!" Darren smiled and Lacy hugged me tightly. "You're right, I have a lot of makeup s*x to get to." I smirked and walked back towards my room. "I love you guys, you know that right? And you're both going to be bridesmaids at my wedding!" Darren fist pumped and Lacy groaned out loud with a smile on her face. Author's Note: To be honest, I didn't want Jane to forgive him so easily but in the end I figured she was going to forgive him anyways, and I was running out of ideas to make her forgive him and make more endless word filled chapters of stuff yall probably won't want to read, so I wrote it like this. It's cheesy and cliché just how I write my books so if you have a problem, there's the door. This book wasn't meant to be a long one either, it was just an off handed idea I pursued. That being said there is one more chapter left and an epilogue to write before I can officially add my second book to the completed list!
