Amelia and I looked at each other as Ryan and Lily came out of the utility closet, her giggling smiling face making my stomach heave with sickness. How could I kiss someone who had his lips on hers? I suddenly felt the urge to scrub my lips.
"Oh my God Ryan, you animal!" Her annoying voice screeched. God her and Mandy could be best friends.
"Your 1:30 is here." Amelia told him. Yeah why don't you go focus on work instead of personal things Ryan. Damn, my mind was rearing with rude thoughts today.
"Thank you Amelia, and Jane thank you for getting Lily here, if you could prepare the statement about us and email it to me for revisions that would be great." He said to me.
"Yeah, yeah I can do that Mr. James." I replied even though I hadn't really heard what he said because my phone had buzzed and Darren and sent me a funny video reenacting how girls and their gay best friends act. I smiled, the laugh not quite escaping my mouth.
I heard a door slam a couple moments later and Amelia sighed. "You don't see what you're doing to him do you?" She asked.
"Don't be crazy Amelia, you're hormones are getting to your brain." We laughed and the sound died off only leaving her clicking at her computer.
"I'm serious Jane, he went back to that woman but its not what you think. I heard them talking in the utility closet and you have to promise not to tell him I told you." She pleaded.
"I won't." My curiosity peaked.
"Well he actually-" But she was cut off by a loud voice coming from Ryan's end of the hallway.
"Yeah, I'll actually get my publicist on it Mr. Chang, thank you so much for your time." Ryan said, leading Mr. Chang, an important international investor, down the hallway towards the elevator.
"Thank you Mr. James, we will be in contact." Mr Chang spoke in a heavy Chinese accent.
"Yes, see you soon." The elevator doors closed. "Jane, my office please." He spoke curtly.
I looked at Amelia irritation clear on my face, this was the second time she had been interrupted trying to tell me something. "Uh, yes Sir." I walked quickly behind him.
"Don't call me Sir." He muttered.
"Why, you are my boss, Sir." I smirked, waiting for his reaction as we walked through his door. My back faced him and almost instantly two strong arms were wrapped around my waist and harsh words were being whispered into my ear.
"Don't call me Sir, unless you want to mean it, Ms. Everson." The pit of my stomach churned in desire, his seducing words making my knees weak. He released me almost as quick as he held me and I swayed a little making my way quickly over to his desk, leaning against it.
I looked up down at the floor, my hair framing my face, then back up at him. My grey eyes must have been lust filled because his turned dark and he turned to face the big window in his office, running his rough hand through his hair. He looked like my own personal Christian Grey. He's not yours Jane. My mean self conscience spoke loudly. I ran my own fingers through my hair, the red strands falling from my fingers, laying gently on my shoulders.
Ryan muttered something to himself and I looked up to meet his eyes, his hands were noticeably in an awkward position above his well..man area. My face flushed, wondering if his discomfit was because of me. Ew, no why would you think that. He's been with Lily Peterson come on now. Man, my head was mean to me.
"Mr. Chang was here, he wanted me to help him cause a scandal for his rival company and ruin their reputation and then he would invest in a large part of this company. I have a great publicist, or so I told him, and he doesn't have one at all, so now your job is to do anything you can to ruin The Smith Enterprises' reputation."
"Yeah, of course. I'll uh do my research and get right on that." I answer.
"What? No questions, no smart remarks?" He looks shocked, sort of confused.
"Uh, no Si- I mean Mr. James. I'm here to do as you say and please you." I bit my lip.
"I'd like to tell you to do a lot of things than." He muttered under his breath thinking I couldn't hear him.
"You have a girlfriend." I blurted out.
"What does that have to do with this conversation?" He asked.
"I heard what you just said, and I'm telling you, you have a girlfriend. You shouldn't be thinking about me or about doing anything to me when you have a girlfriend." I snapped.
"Ah, there's the feisty red head I know. And actually Ms. Everson you are right, but it's not my fault I can't deny the tension and s****l frustration radiating between us." His face turned red like he hadn't meant to say it, but he quickly gathered his cool composure.
"There's no s****l tension or frustration with me, I have no idea what you're talking about." I said quickly, too quickly.
"Is that right?" He asked.
"Yes and stop stepping closer to me." I said, my voice quivering. He didn't listen and soon enough he was close to me, so close his breath was fanning my face.
"Let's make a bet, Jane."
