Chapter one - My story

2077 Words
Nia's POV: Hello, my name is Nia. I am twenty-three years old. I studied at university, but I quit. I found out this wasn't my thing. Since then, I have been working. Every day, I go and watch kids. I take ten dollars per hour. I can ask for more, but I won't do it. I love little kids so much. One day, I want to have one. I want it to be a girl. I have a boyfriend named Kevin. We met at university. He knows that I quit, but we still go out together. My parents have met him. Dad said he wasn't the best candidate, but he liked him. They understand each other well. Mom is happy as long as I am. He is not buying me expensive gifts or taking me to luxurious restaurants, but it doesn't matter. I'm not dating him because of that. We have been together for more than seven months. It's not that much, but it's enough time to get to know someone. When I have free time, I go to see him at university. I have seen girls checking him out, but I ignore them. They can't have my boyfriend. I'm not that pretty. Well, since he is dating me, he thinks it. I don't know what else to say about him except that I am lucky. Kevin treats me well. Sometimes, he has picked me up from the house where I work. We understand each other perfectly, and I'm happy about it. I don't need anything else from him. I hope that we'll have a good and stable relationship. Today I have to watch two kids. One of them will be in kindergarten. The parents will pick it up after work. I have to stay for the night because they will go out. The other kid is a one-year-old. I will watch it during the day. I need to be in their house at 9 am. Hopefully, I will manage to deal with both of them. Well, the mother has left me some instructions. After all, I need to know what I am supposed to do. The kids need to feel good with me. I woke up and went to get ready. I still live with my parents. They don't want me to move out yet. Also, I have nowhere else to go. I can't live with my boyfriend. My savings are not that much. He is not working yet. Kevin plans to do it after he graduates. When I was ready, I went for a quick breakfast. Later, I walked out. The house to which I'm going is thirty minutes away. I knocked on the door, and a woman opened it. - Hello. Nia? - Yes. That's me. - Great. Come in. - Thanks. - The big girl is at kindergarten. The baby is sleeping. I have left you a note on the kitchen table. There are the things you should do. If there is any question, call me. I have written my phone number. - Sure, no problem. - Come with me. - Yes. - Here is the milk for the baby. She drinks only from this one. That one is for us. I give her not more than three cups a day. The cup over there is hers. During the other time, she drinks water. No juices or any other drink than milk and water, ok? - I understand. - She still can't walk properly, so you should hold her. There is a little tent in the backyard. Her toys are there if you want to play with her outside. The doctor said that she couldn't stay under the sun. - No sun, I get it. - That is everything for now. If there are other questions, call me. I have to go now. - No problem. - Bye, Nia. - Bye. - I said, and the woman left I went to check on the baby. She sleeps so cutely. I checked where everything was. The baby can wake up every moment. I read everything on the list. As soon as the baby wakes up, she needs to eat. The food is one cup of milk with pancakes. The recipe is in the book in the kitchen. They need to be small and thinner. I made them for half an hour. Then, I went to check on her on the baby. She was awake. I picked her up, and we went to the kitchen. I put her on her chair and gave her the food. I warmed the milk a bit. I was feeding her when there was a knock on the door. - Kevin? - Hey. Can I come in? - Sure, but be quick. I don't think I can let people here. - I'm your boyfriend. - I know, but still. - Who is the little one? - Annie. I'm watching her and her sister today. - I don't see another kid. - She is in kindergarten. I will stay here for the night. Now you can tell me what you are doing here. - I came to see you. I have a few classes during the day. - I see. Well, we can go out tomorrow. - Yes, sure. She is cute. - I know. Maybe we can have a baby one day. - What? What baby? - I said one day. No one said this would be tomorrow. - Don't give me heart attacks. - I won't. I promise. - Let's not talk about kids now. Please. - Ok, ok. I won't pressure you. It was a silly thought, anyway. - Yes, it was. I won't lie that it hurt me a bit when he reacted this way. Maybe he is not ready for this. I never said that it would happen tomorrow or this year. Well, I would love to have a kid one day. I guess it won't happen soon. I have tried to talk about this with him before, but he never told me anything. I won't be mad at him even if we don't have one. He stayed with me for some time. Later, he left for his classes. I cleaned up the baby and put her on the bed until I cleaned the other things. Then, we went to play in the tent in the backyard. - Mommy. - Mommy will be back for dinner. Look what a beautiful doll. - Mommy. - Yes, she will come back. - Mommy. - she said and stretched her hands - Come here. You are so cute. - I said and hugged her After some time of playing, I put her back in bed. She slept until her parents came home from her. The big girl is four years old. I will feed both of them when the baby wakes up. I talked with the parents until they left. The girls should be in bed at 10 pm. Annie might fall asleep earlier. She is younger. I can tire the other girl so she can fall asleep quickly. It's a good trick. After an hour, the girls were eating. - Do you like the food? - It's delicious. - I see that Annie likes it, too. - She eats everything. - That is good. - Can we play after dinner? - Sure. I would love to. - Yay! - Let's finish the dinner first. The girls quickly ate everything. Later, we went to Chloe's room. She had a bit more toys. We played until Annie started feeling sleepy. I went to put her in bed and came back. There was a board game on the bed. I have never played this one before. The games I had back then have nothing to do with today's ones. - What is this? - My new game. Mom bought me this last week. - Great. Do you know the rules? - No. I like the princess. - she said and showed me a figure - Let's read them together. - Do you want to have kids? - What? - You love playing with them. - Yes, I want to have a kid in the future. - A girl or a boy? - A girl. Why are you asking? - Can I see her when she is born? - Sure. - Yay! I will be a big sister again. - For sure, you will. I stayed with the kids until their parents came back. They were home at 11 pm. Everyone was in bed. Usually, the families pay me daily. I can't be sure if they will call me again. I need to earn money somehow. That is one of the best jobs ever. I love being a babysitter. I think this will be a great experience. Well, if my boyfriend decides to have a kid with me. It doesn't look like he wants one. Maybe after some time, he will change his mind. I walked around before I went home. Hopefully, I didn't wake up my parents. I walked in and saw a light in the living room. My parents were watching a movie. I thought they would be in bed. I went to my room and changed my clothes. I plan to go to bed after that. I put my pj on and went to check on my parents. - Hello. I thought you two would be in bed. - Yes, but we got caught up in this movie. How are you? - mom asked - I'm fine. - How was your day? Did you have problems with the kids? - No, they were good. One of them was one year old. She sleeps most of the time. - The other one was in kindergarten, right? - Yes. - For how long do you plan to watch kids? - my dad asked - I don't know. Why? - Nothing. I thought you wanted to have a different job. - Yes, but for now, I like this one. I'm getting paid well. - The most important thing for her is to be happy. - mom said - I am. - See? - Fine. - dad said - You want to have a kid, don't you? - What? - That is why you are watching kids. - Maybe. - You are so impatient. - my mom said, chuckling - I'm the only one who wants it. - What do you mean? - I don't think Kevin wants to have kids with me. - Why? - He came to see me today. I mentioned it, and he reacted a bit cold. - Give him time. You two are only twenty-three. Maybe he is not ready. - No, there is something else. Lately, he has been weird. It's like he is not telling me something. - Don't do anything. When he is ready, he will tell you everything. - dad said - I hope so. Otherwise, I have to find out myself. - You won't do anything. - Dad, I'm not a little girl. - But you are my little girl. - I know, but I'm old enough to make decisions by myself. - If something happens, I will blame you. - Fine. I will prove you wrong. - Who will you babysit next? - mom asked - Two boys. One of them is eleven. The other one is nine. - So you will help them with their homework. - I can try, yes. I will go in the afternoon. - At least you are getting paid. - Mom, I won't do it for free. - You never know. - Hey, I need money. - If you plan to have a baby, you will need them. - I know. I talked with my parents for some time. Later, I went to bed. I don't have the best well-paid job, but I like it. Being around kids will help if one day I decide to have one. Maybe there will be more. I haven't decided yet. Probably, Kevin won't be the father. As I see it, he is not excited about it. I don't think he wants to have kids with whoever it is. That is his decision. I can't tell him what to do. If that is how he wants our relationship, I will support him. I won't leave him for anything in the world. The only way I can do it is if he wants it. I hope that this will never happen.
