Chapter two - Business plans

2095 Words
Noah's POV: Hello, my name is Noah. I am twenty-five years old. I work in my dad's company. My grandfather started it. Then, my dad worked with him. When he retired, my dad became the boss. I was his right hand. For a few years, we have worked together. I might be the son of the boss. This doesn't mean I have privileges. Dad wanted to give me some, but I refused. I don't want to be something more than the rest. I should say that we are a good team. I always go to him if I don't understand something. My grandpa comes to visit us from time to time as well. Mom's parents died when I was young. I don't think this affected her. That is part of her personal life. I never ask anything. Speaking of my personal life, I have a girlfriend named Jasmine. I like her. No matter that, she can be a bit mean sometimes. I should say that she and my mom understand each other perfectly. This is one of the reasons why I am still with her. She has talked with me about kids. I don't mind, but it won't be soon. For now, I prefer to focus on my job. Kids will come later. It's not like I am desperate to have one. Jasmine stays at home for dinner often. I have met her parents. They are good people. Most of the time, she comes alone. I think she wants something from me. I will talk with her about that. I hope that it's not about a kid. Today, my dad and I will work on a project together. We have discussed the ideas. Now, we need to bring them to life. Well, we won't do this alone. Dad hired a whole team to work on it. This is important for him. Whoever works on this will get a sweet bonus. He should've started with this. It's not like I don't know why he didn't. Some people might come only for the money. They won't do anything. We need people who will work. Currently, I am in my office. My assistant brought me all the mail and documents that came in the afternoon yesterday. I check everything until 3 pm. Everything that has come after this time is for the next day. Most of the mail is from magazines. They want me to subscribe to them. I don't need this. These things go in the trash can. One of the things was like an ad. A girl is working as a babysitter. I called my assistant to explain. - Yes, sir. You called me. - Why is this in my mail? - Oh, that is mine. I must have grabbed it by mistake. I'm so sorry. - Since when do you have kids? - I don't, but one friend has. She is looking for a babysitter. I found this and took it for her. - I see. Next time, check what you are giving me, ok? - Sure. That won't happen again. - Good. You can go now. - Thanks, and I'm sorry. I stayed in my office for a while. Later, I went to the meeting with my dad. He gave tasks to everyone. First, we need to start with the base. Other people will take care of that. I will join when everything is done. Then, we can move on to the more complicated requirements. That will take some time. After the meeting, my dad and I went for lunch. Mom is not working. She does some work at home. It's not like we don't have a maid for that. My grandparents can entertain her. We walked to the nearest restaurant. The waiter gave us a menu, and we chose the food. It was ready in thirty minutes. - The food here is delicious. - I said - That's why we come here so often. - We can take food for home. - Why not? - That won't be today. Clara will cook tonight. - Yes, I forgot. Your mom made her prepare a special dinner. - Why? - I have no idea. She might want to tell us something. - Something like what? - Ask your mom. She didn't tell me anything. - I might do it. Dad and I finished with our lunch and went back to work. My assistant told me I had a visitor in my office. I don't remember inviting someone. I walked in and saw Jasmine. What is she doing here? Right now, I don't have much time for her. We better talk at home. I sat on my desk and looked at her. If she says something, she better be quick. I don't have a whole day to waste. - Why are you here? - Can't your girlfriend come to see you? - You know I have a lot of work. What do you want? - Maybe a cup of coffee and some attention. - Jasmine, I don't have time for this. - You are always working. - Because I need money. It won't be a bad idea if you find a job. - I can't work. This might be dangerous for me. - Why? - Do you know how much these nails cost? - That is not a valid excuse. If you don't have something important to tell me, please leave. I don't have time for you now. - You never do. - I'm sorry. We can talk later. - I'll see you for dinner. - What? - Don't you know? Your mom invited me. - Now I know. - I hope you will have some time for me then. - I will. Thanks for the understanding. - This is not over. - she said and left I don't know how her parents left her without a job. If she thinks I will pay for everything because we are dating, she is wrong. My salary might be good, but I won't waste it on her. After all, I need money as well. The rest of the afternoon I spend working. I finished almost everything I planned for today. I wanted to stay longer, but my dad wouldn't have left me. Both of us go home together. We have cars, but we use only one of them. I mean, we go to work at the same time. When we arrived, I went to take a shower. Jasmine was in my room. I told her to go to the kitchen and leave me alone. After half an hour, I was ready. Clara was serving the dinner. - I'm glad that everyone is here. - mom said - Me too. - Jasmine added - Can I know what you have to say? You don't make Clara cook like that often. - I said - Can't I have dinner with my family? - Mom, we know you. - I agree with my grandson. Something is going on. - granny said - I was thinking that Jasmine and I could have a business together. What do you think? - What business? - dad asked - We don't know yet. We'll come up with some ideas. - Great idea, but where will you promote it? - I asked - On the Internet. People share everything there. - Do you mean a website or social media? I don't understand. - I will open social media accounts. - First, you need to have an idea. Also, to work on it. This means to spend time on this thing. No one will do it for you. It might take hours every day. - What? Hours? Every day? - Running a business is not easy. - You said I don't have to do anything. - Jasmine said, looking at my mom - And you won't. I will only need your face. You are younger than me. - No problem. I want people to see me. - I don't know how this will end. - I said - Me either. Hopefully, nothing will explode. - my dad said, and I laughed - At least you two will be working. - granny said - We will. Let's drink for that. Jasmine, go and call Clara. - mom said - Sure. I'll do everything. - she said and left Something tells me that this won't be only business. There is something else about it. I think that is their excuse. Mom and Jasmine understand each other too well. I hope that nothing will come out of this. I don't want to be involved in anything. It's enough that I have a lot of work at the office. Jasmine came back with Clara and wine. She sat back next to me and gave me a cup. Something is wrong with her. Usually, she is never so good. Hopefully, she hasn't planned anything. - Good wine, miss Williams. I like it. - Jasmine said - Thanks. It's the best one in town. - One cup seems more than enough. - We want to drink some, not to get drunk. - True. You can tell me the brand. - I will with pleasure. - What is going on? - I asked Jasmine, whispering - Nothing. - Are you sure? You are too nice. - Is it that bad? - What is your plan? - I don't plan anything. Why are you talking like that? - Because I know you. - It doesn't look like that. I don't have any plans except for the business with your mom. - Let's say that I believe you. - It hurts me that you don't. - That is your fault. - Of course. You are the perfect son. - I didn't say that. - Let's not argue now. Take a drink. - she said and gave me my glass of wine - Thanks. I think there is something wrong with the wine. I have drunk it before, but now I feel weird. My head is pounding, and I feel weak. I don't know what is going on with me. I tried to get up, but I almost fell. Jasmine caught me on time. I noticed how she looked at my mom. Something is going on here. Soon, we were in my room. She put me on the bed and laid down. I had only one glass of wine. I guess it was more than enough. My head hurts so much. - Hey, are you ok? What happened? I have never seen you like that before. - Jasmine said - I don't know. My head hurts. - But you looked fine. - It's from the wine. - That is not possible. All of us drink from it. No one else feels like that. Are you sure you hadn't taken anything before you came home? Maybe it's from that. - No, it's from this wine. I'm sure about this. I feel weird. I need to rest. - Do you want a cup of tea or something? - I don't want anything. Please, leave me alone. I want to rest. - You should take a nap. I will be here if you need something. - No, go home. I want to be alone. - I can't leave you alone in that state. What if something happens? - There are many people here. They will take care of me. - I am your girlfriend, and I deserve to be here. - Jasmine, please. I don't have time for you. - Relax. I will stay there on the chair. I won't get close to you. - Your parents are probably waiting for you. - I sent a message to my mom. Everything is fine. Take a rest. I will be here if you need something. - Fine. The guest room is free if you need more space. - It's ok. You need to sleep. - Thanks. I quickly fell asleep. I don't know what was in that wine. Something happened with it. The only thing I don't understand is why I feel this way. Everyone else is good. They don't have any complaints. Maybe the sleep will help me feel better. I will take a pill for my headache in the morning. I'm worried about Jasmine. She has planned something. I need to keep an eye on her. The other thing is that my mom keeps her back. These two are together in everything. I'm afraid that they will help each other. I don't know their plans, but nothing good will come from them. I hope that I won't get involved.
